2017-2018 Programs by Discipline

At this point I'm not even mad about another Carmen.
Actually, to be honest, Stolbova was born to skate to Carmen, so screw it, who cares. Give me Stolbova in fiery red. Give it to me NOW. :clapper:

S/K 's music choices seem very nice. I am very excited to watch two new super choreographies. But key point is still the technical content of their SP. This is their big disadvantage.

Well. I expected nothing different from T/M. I does not look like they show something new. But they need a unique selling point if they want to become olympic champions.

I really hope that Vincent was misquoted, was talking only about men's skating, or free skates, or, or something....

From the article announcing his new FS:
Zhou's face lights up when he talks about the Moulin Rouge selections."We're using 'Come What May' as the final piece, and I don't think anyone has ever skated to that before. At least, I have never seen someone skate to it," he said. "It gives me chills when I listen to it, and I hope the audience thinks the same."

Uh, Vincent, Alexa and Chris? :roll5: You know, your American teammates in pairs? Who only had the chance to perform it twice, but once was at Worlds? As in, *2017* Worlds? And you will have a long, long, way to go (and mostly because of Alexa and Chris' backstory, so that's not your fault) to give the audience the same chills that Alexa and Chris skating to this music did.

I hope, really and truly, that you are not living in the bubble that this quote implies.:slink:

Could it just be he didn't watch pairs at Worlds? Kid was probably riding a high from winning Junior Worlds anyways. He does say "At least, I have never seen someone skate to it."

Weaver/Poje also used it in their 2010-11 Moulin Rouge medley FD, as did more skaters, I'm sure. It's just a silly, broad statement to make, that's all, not that it really matters :confused2:

At least it gives people another thing to criticize him for. It sort of goes with what I've heard a long time ago of skaters not really watching skating the way fans do.

This has way less to do with criticizing Vincent than with loving that program and performance from Alexa and Chris, ETA: and not understanding how any American fan or skater could not know that program. Lynn Rutherford has clarified on Twitter that she and Vincent were thinking of men's skates, so not so bad.

Although Vincent, and everyone else, should watch Alexa and Chris's Come What May from Worlds :love::love:

Vincent Zhou has dropped the Romeo+Juliet FS. He will now use Moulin Rouge. Choreo by Jeff Buttle

Rippon confirms he's really skating over himself covering Rhianna's Diamonds. Choreo by Benji Schwimmer and Jeff Buttle.
I think he made a right choice. Romeo and Juliet music was kinda eating him up. I guess the new choreography and music will suit him more.

I saw the program at least once. I saw the movie years ago. I don't remember the song. I just listened to it on youtube and I still don't remember ever hearing it before.

Maybe you're a big fan of Alexa and Chris, or pairs in general, and watched their programs many times, so it's cemented in your memory. But that doesn't mean that it is memorable to skaters and skating fans who have only seen it once or twice.

I just don't find it to be a very memorable song on its own merits.

Yep. I had wrinkled eyebrows trying to figure that out. I respect the heck out of Vincent, but Romeo and Juliette conjured images of a little boy walking around in Daddy's boots.

I'm not over the moon about Moulin Rouge, but it's a better choice for Vincent. Definitely. I look forward to seeing it.
