But he doesn't look like he's passionate about her... they don't have love chemistry
for me personally a piece consisting of characters and their specific relatioships/emotions should ot automatically impose on skaters that they have to be the same, imitate actual story told in ballet/opera etc. Of course - they can do that, it's up to them if they would take a piece and its story literally, or only as a point of departure towards their personal approach. But I do not see anything wrong to take on piece like 'Carmen' - even so strongly associated with story told by it - and just make a nice program, without portraying the emotions and relationship between main characters. And the fact that most of people project the story already on ice and state that it's not going to work, is up to personal preference. I actually think that taking such music like 'Carmen's' and make it intoa program without any references to its characters/roles played by them is much more interesting perspective to look at 'warhorse' program and choreography.
For me, regardless if they love or hate each other on- or off-ice, they have equal chances to pull of 'Carmen' FS like any other team with any other repetoire. What I can say is that I am very excited to see the program, because Ksenia and Fedor's last two season - and their Sochi season programs, too - proved for me that they can both work with abstract pieces, with modernity and not clear characters defined already and with music/pieces associated with certain characters and moods. The 'Carmen'prospect is especially alluring in my opinion due to Pasquale choreography and Ksenia's potential to not imitate Carmen herself, but to use her character, vivid image associated with it to create equally bold figure on ice with Ksenia's personality.
'Besame mucho' SP is very interesting choice, too - due to their soft, fluid skating skills and sophisticated, stylish image they can create together I think that the music and theme will be very suitable for them, like it was with 2013/14 SP to Jose Gonzales piece.
I actually don't automatically think Warhorses are bad, but it depends on who's skating to it and who the choreographers are and whether I think they can really sell the material. A Camerlengo-choreographed Carmen by Stolbova is extremely intriguing to me.
Blah blah blah warhorses are bad, etc, etc, - but I'm not going to lie - I am psyched to see Stolbova as Carmen. Moreso than any other current pair, St/Kl were born to do Carmen together.
But Diva Stolbova as Carmen will be![]()
agree with all 3 of You - can't wait to see the program!

Don't get the big hooplah over it either. Just because people skate in the sport doesn't mean they are a fan of watching others do it or that they are going to remember what other skaters, esp those not in their discipline, had skated to
But I find pairs very forgettable
