It is the team, many teams in Montreal are looking similar, I think P / C already noticed and I am glad that they are working with external people.

I thought I heard that V/M, P/C, and H/D all went to the coaches with their own ideas this year, so I already am expecting something different from each of them.

Maybe the plus side to having similar FDs last season is that many of the top ice dance teams are going in a different direction for this season.

No, the primary latin thing about these choices, as many have already said, is that 'Sympathy for the Devil' was intentionally written on a samba rhythm, and 'Hotel California' is a rhumba rhythm. And I guess the acoustic guitar arrangement makes it sound more latin for those who don't really pay that much attention to rhythms/beat (including me - while 'Sympathy for the Devil' and 'Hotel California' do sound like samba and rhumba rhythms to me, I wouldn't know for sure if someone more knowledgeable did not tell me that, yes, they are indeed samba and rhumba rhythms).

I'm no expert on latin rhythms, but I'd say that guitar sounds appropriate. As well as the drums and percussions.

I do not have a doctorate in Latin rhythms. I am only a latin person living in Latin America, I grew up listening to Latin music and to this day it is mainly the music I listen to. And when I listen to this version of Hotel California, it seems to me just the acoustic version of the original, I can not find the Latin flavor. Anyway, maybe I should wait to see the program before I continue to complain, maybe It'll end up looking more Latin than I imagine, at least the first 20 seconds of Sympathy for the Devil sounds like a samba.
And I want to make it clear that my problem is not with V / M as skaters, I think they are very good and I am almost sure that the program will be good, not Latin, but maybe good. And they have already shown that they can skate an authentic latin rhythm. My problem is that this kind of situations is creating precedents, I like that there is the SD because this forces the teams to move out of their comfort zone and try new styles, for example Gabriella has already mentioned that she does not love the Latin rhythm, then normally I guess they would never try this rhythm, then with this as a requirement, they have to try it anyway. If the Shibs only chose the music they think suit them, they probably would not choose a Paso Doble or Hip hop, but as the SD requires, they did it and turned out to be two very good programs. I think that this motivates the skaters to get out of their comfort zone and many times this turns out that they really could do something really good when they did not believe it in the first place.
But when you observe that the rules allow you to skate a rhythm that seems anything but the required rhythm, then I think you can not really see them in that style. Everyone says that V/M choice is very different, they will stand out among all the others, then that people are accepting that in theirs mind, that goes out of latin style. I can pass it to V / M because they have already showed their versatility, they are olympic gold and silver medalists and it's their farewell season, but I really wish that it would not become a pattern with short dances. I like to see a skater trying different things. I love the Shibs, and I would hate if they just add a bandoneon to a Cold Play song saying that they are skating a tango the next season.

Flamenco is not latin, like your source mentions it, it is Spanish rhythm.

I think I thought I saw somewhere that he choreographed something, possibly in tandem with someone else, for Weaver & Poje, but I could very well be wrong. I would assume that the majority of the choreo is Marie-France, with creative input and ideas from David Wilson.

I only read and heard (from their interviews at HPC and prior) that Weaver/Poje are working with Lori Nichol and Morosov on their programs.

Wilson choreographed for Dubreuil/Lauzon themselves when they were competing (I don't remember exactly which programs, though), and he choreographed Hurtado/Diaz's 2013/2014 Olympic season 'Picasso' FD, very likely in tandem with Dubreuil too.

Chapis also expressed worry when she heard Ryanimay Conferido worked with the Shibs on their Perez Prado music because they might "modernize" it. Chapis is Latin-American and seems cognizant and sensitive to portrayals of her culture in ice dance and how things are being shown to represent something enough when she feels it does not at all. I think it's something to be cognizant about. As other posters mentioned, choosing the Latin rhythm is not just choosing a music style but an expression of a culture and seeing how it's expressed by mostly outsiders can be a sensitive issue even if ice dancing to Latin rhythms is mainly more focused on the ballroom style dancing and hitting the right rhythms and making sure the music meets the BPM requirements and not portraying Latin culture because Latin American dance is a reflection of Latin American culture. And she's right about flamenco not being Latin with the way it's defined by the ISU and what is meant for the Latin rhythm. That said, I think it's been explained multiple times that "Hotel California" is a rhumba beat and there have been rhumba covers of it that makes the rhumba flavor much more explicit.

I definitely think P/C are involved in the creative process. However, nobody works in a vacuum and creators often are influenced by images and things they've seen in the past. I also don't think P/C view what V/M did in that Tango de Roxanne clip as "borrowing" or "stealing" since that move that P/C did isn't wholly original in ice dance and plus the moves are quite different from what Scott and Tessa did in terms of what the move was, the execution, and the purpose it served.

What is that video supposed to prove exactly? That a lot of lyrical choreography has similar timing to match lyrical music that also has similar timing? The choreography wasn't really the same. Sure there are similarities to movement but choreographers have a style and with them sharing choreographers with P/C, there will be some similarities but also a lot lyrical type movement that they did is pretty common in figure skating with the glide and everything sort of making skaters want to do moves where it looks like they're reaching out to the sky, etc. I get a lot of P/C fans like to think they invented ice dancing but as someone who's been watching ice dance for about 15 years and watched a lot of old school ice dance routines to educate myself and for entertainment, they did not. I'm saying this as someone who admires P/C's artistry as well and there's no question that they with Gadbois ushered in a revival of that style and it's nice after the domination of the Igor/Marina style. Their FD at Worlds took my breath away as it did in 2016. But I'm annoyed at how most of ice dance history is ignored when people talk about them.
