2017 Europeans Ladies SP

Don't know if anybody has picked up on it, but skater representing Spain at the end of this group, Valentina Matos, is actually from the Dominican Republic (the former Spanish colony that shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with the former French colony of Haiti).
I take it she has opted for Spain because the Dominican Republic don't have a national skating federation. But, it would be nice if one was formed especially for her.
Come to think of it, it would be nice to see more skaters from the Caribbean. (The only other ones I can think of off the top of my head are Vanessa and Melyssa James, who are from the British colony of Bermuda)

I have a bad feeling that Anna is already old news for Russia. I wouldn't be surprised if she won't make it to the Olympics. So I really hope that she will do well internationally so they cannot simply pretend she is just average all the time.

Hahaha, yes. If Pogo is healthy and clean, she'll beat out Sotskova for sure. Unfortunate that she has coaches who don't have much political pull in the Russian fed.
She gets way more love internationally (because she is good) than at home.

Sotskova at this point is really bland and uninspiring for me, yes - she has a tech arsenal (I'm not discussing technique in details as I have no friggin' clue about carrots, stick and so on), but both her and Anna clean, Anna should be scored better for sure...
