Aliev is my new Kovtun it seems. And I don't mean it positively.

Is it just me or does his pacing not match the music?

Speaking of Kovtun, where is the guy? I see no sight of him. I could almost say, surprisingly, that I miss him.

Nahh, in his first 30 seconds of expression, he already displayed more artistry than Kovtun for entire season.

Kovtun hurt himself so he had to pull out of his events...I follow him on Instagram (for some reason LOL) he likes to drive a lot, but every so often he'll post a video of him skating, so he can still do it. I guess he's concentrating on Nationals?

Aliev's program was actually quite nice with the two contemporary music choices. A lot of simpler steps but I notice him using a wider range of movement, where I think he was better in the first half than the second half. Shame on the pair of falls and the popped 4T, but really nice 4T+3T and 3Lo+1Lo+3S combos. Some of the spins could be faster and the footwork could be cleaner and have quicker turns.

He is still getting over an injury. He is nothing like Kovtun.

The skating itself was gorgeous, and his costumes...def the best dressed Russian man hands down.

I thought that he will be on the podium here after the great SP at Skate Canada, but he needs more time to grow. More stamina at least. He has lovely lines and he is very elegant, he remembers me of Urmanov sometimes.

Kovtun is let down by his face...poor guy always looks like a deer in the headlights whenever he's skating, it's a bit off-putting!
