I think they mean artistically, not technically. No one questions Evgenia is a better jumper than Caro. Heck..a lot of the ladies are better jumpers than Caro

Evgenia is top notch artistically.

Obviously, if she skated a far simpler program(like Kostner did), she could spend a lot more time on artistry. Rewatch these programs and look at Medvedeva's footwork and choreo in comparison to Kostner's. Look at how much more she actually has to do. I'm not talking about jumps or spins or anything like that here.

i'm not not worried at all about wakababy's silver. no one has a tech content to compete with her in the free. even if carolina lands all of her 6 triples, it's not gonna be enough.
but i rather want to see kaori with the bronze.

Yes, lots of beautiful performances! Was so excited, then Mirai did the 3A and I was blown away. Too bad about the mess ups.

And then of course, Evgenia came after that and did an amazing job.

Well, I think that hers are better than Kostner's. Kostner's program was very simple in comparison to hers. With such a simple program, it's easier to have good basics.

Kostner could never skate Medvedeva's program.

This argument is presented as if choices were made: higher difficulty was compromised for basics. I don't buy that but even if I did then fine, the judges should score accordingly. Give Medvedeva all of her points for difficulty but don't strain credulity by scoring her program that high in the PCS categories. Transitions is the only one where she is a superior skater. I would gladly take less transitions if they're actually done well and mean something.

Wowie, Evgenia.:luv17: THAT is what I call an Olympics-year short program. This is artistry from Zhenya. From the first few notes, it was exquisite ... partly because her interpretation of the exact same music was such a huge contrast from what came before. But mostly, just because she performed with the subtlety and lyricism of her movements, her crescendos and subtle slowing down with the music.

Just exquisite. My only quibble is that I don't think the heavy breathing/ heartbeat at the end is at all necessary or desirable. I wonder why the choreographer thinks she needs it? She doesn't. She's conveyed feelings with heart. We get it. It's a small quibble, but it's a big deal to me. Let her skating speak for itself.

Technically, this is a perfect example of a skater who is doing what she can do, and doing it very very well. Her jumps don't have the highest BV. But it's so much more beautiful because she performs everything magnificently.

The main thing she doesnt interpret anything. She doesnt care about the music. Compare Yuzuru's chopin to Evgenias.And how they score intepretation of the program if half of the program is just jumps?

Hit me over the head, but while there are certainly aspects of Wakaba's skating that are much better than Elena's, like deep edges, skating skills ect, but I think Elena is also ahead in certain aspects. Especially when it comes to interpretation. Wakaba is more introverted so I think it's too simple to scream RUSSIA is to blame. And reputation judging. Like it or not Radionova has history. Wakaba has not much to her name this far.

I agree 100%. Sure, Caro is a beautiful, artistic skater. But Evgenia has to be artistic while skating an incredibly difficult program, and not just jump wise! She literally doesn't have a moment of rest the entire SP

Besides Zhenya and Mirai if she gets it together, no one can compete with Wakaba here.

Okay. The judges crucified her but Mirai has to shake it off and try and nail her FS. Hopefully she can pull up a few spots.

And I don't care if that 3A was called under. It was GORGEOUS in real time and it sickens me that such a good looking super hard jump would be downgraded like that. :disapp: Mirai is fighting for a spot on the Olympic team. She has no choice but to try and separate herself from the pack with a jump like the 3A.

This transitions before loop , spread eagle make me laugh all the time.How long she waits for executing the jump after spread eagle? She should look at Konstantinova who does it immediately

To Clarify:
I like Evgenia. I think she commits to the programs and performs the heck out of them. I could do without the VO and weird heartbeat thing but I think she is very good artistically and technically. I'll always prefer Anna P. because it moves me more. I'm actually not a huge fan of Carolina because I can't enjoy watching her because it so often all goes to hell in a handbasket. However she is very elegant and has really nice movement on the ice. A clean Caro cannot beat a clean Evgenia. She just can't do the technical content.

I don't even mind the voice-over in the middle... I simply don't understand the heartbeat at the end, it's completely anticlimactic, it's always droned out by the crowd, it makes her look winded when she clearly is barely out of breath, most of all it looks cheap. It's baffling from a program construction standpoint, just end on the bloody spin! To me it's another example of Averbukh's choreography and its complete and utter lack of class. I hope the FS change is a sign, Zhenya (and Yulia before her) do not need to carry him on the shoulders of their immense talent. :roll5:
