2017 GP Rostelecom Cup Ladies SP

So Higuchi had an UR call on the 3T and a ! on the 3F. I guess that's where the loss of points came from.

I agree 100%. Sure, Caro is a beautiful, artistic skater. But Evgenia has to be artistic while skating an incredibly difficult program, and not just jump wise! She literally doesn't have a moment of rest the entire SP

And herein lies my problem. That in itself is horrible choreography. There have to be pauses and holds so you can appreciate the highlights. There is definitely a lot going on but whether that relates to the music or the mood of the program is a different story.

The main thing she doesnt interpret anything. She doesnt care about the music. Compare Yuzuru's chopin to Evgenias. And how they score intepretation of the program if half of the program is just jumps?

This is a thread about the ladies competition. Leave Yuzuru out of it, please.

I don't even mind the voice-over in the middle... I simply don't understand the heartbeat at the end, it's completely anticlimactic, it's always droned out by the crowd, it makes her look winded when she clearly is barely out of breath, most of all it looks cheap. It's baffling from a program construction standpoint, just end on the bloody spin! To me it's another example of Averbukh's choreography and its complete and utter lack of class. I hope the FS change is a sign, Zhenya (and Yulia before her) do not need to carry him on the shoulders of their immense talent. :roll5:

Ugh why does her team always have to go so over the top with the program concepts. why couldn't she just do a nice normal classical program for once? Chopin's beautiful music does not need voiceovers! Medvedeva's team needs to chill out and stop with the ridiculous concepts. No one likes them. No one.

Evgenia is top notch artistically.

Obviously, if she skated a far simpler program(like Kostner did), she could spend a lot more time on artistry. Rewatch these programs and look at Medvedeva's footwork and choreo in comparison to Kostner's. Look at how much more she actually has to do.
Is Med's choreo busier than Caro's? Sure! But you know PCS aren't and shouldn't be all about the number of movements you can cram into a program, right?
Or are you seriously suggesting Caro's edge quality is inferior & SS lacking, that she was scratchy, didn't show flow and control, didn't use her whole body, that she did excessive 2foot skating, etc? (In that case, did we really watch the same program?!)

I appreciate Med's program & skating a lot (minus the voiceovers) but I'm a bit baffled that people don't see Caro's SS and PE/IN and CH and try to argue she's doing easy choreo...

Okay, Mirai Nagasu had downgrade on 3T and she UR'd both of her other jumps... Not very good.

Wow, 3A is URed?? It looked clean for me :/

I've noticed in competition that Mirai seems to be landing her 3As with, maybe not quite a hook, but a bit of a jerk on the landing. I also thought her 3A looked rotated, but noticed that little jerk on landing.

I think mastering the 3A psychology throughout the rest of the program is something Mirai can accomplish this season (but geez, if she can't do the 3Lz well by Nationals, have her do the 3Lo instead). I'm much more concerned about the overall lack of choreography and expression throughout the entire performance.

I missed Tarasova's commentary - understand about 20 percent of all, but she's an integral part of FS season for me

I think I understand Russian more and more thanks to her  After some time you just guess from the context what means what*

* as a Polish person who never learnt Russian, at least Russian is also Slavic language so it helps.

If I was a USFS official, I would tell Tom to keep the 3A at the back burner and start getting Mirai to land her other jumps. This has been my pet peeve of some time now. The hype is hard to maintain (or to latch on, in my case) if you can't keep it together.

Evgenia 38 PCS
Carolina 36 PCS
Elena 34 PCS

That's the first time Caro was not overscored in comparison.

I disagree. It's intricate and complex. You may not like it and that's fine, but it isn't 'horrible'. I prefer that to skaters who skate around the rink doing nothing for 20 seconds preparing a jump, tbh.

And as for the mood, it's not like she's shaking her butt and dancing a samba. I think the choreography goes well with the music, especially considering everything that it brings to the table technically.

Besides Zhenya and Mirai if she gets it together, no one can compete with Wakaba here.

i mean, compete for the silver. obviously znenya and mirai have some tech goods to compete with her. but mirai is too far behind alreay, and i expect zhenya to win. so wakaba's main rivals are caro and radionova.

You talk so negatively about the program being complex, intentionally using derogatory terms like "busy" or "cram". How about thinking about it positively? Not many skaters can skate a program like Medvedeva's, and I'm specifically talking about what happens in between the elements. You perhaps think it's busy but what I personally dislike is 5 seconds of just circling around doing nothing in particular. It's spare time to do something meaningful, use it. Medvedeva does. I'm glad the judges are rewarding her for it. There's enough circling between elements.

Evgenia and Carolina are both doing two very, very difficult things that are nearly impossible to compare, and they are both doing them very, very well. Overall, Evgenia has a clear advantage on transitions, if nothing else (for PCS). While the points might not be allocated how I would like, the scores come out relatively correctly, IMO.

It's just bizarre how people consider it a negative to have complex, meaningful things done in between elements rather than circling around the edge of the rink, skating to the other side preparing for an element, performing the element and repeating that. It should be the standard and circling should be left to juniors.
