I don't know. To me, B-man is criticizing the judges for getting carried away by the audience reaction, more than the skater. It is hardly an insult to say that Kaetlyn is so popular in Canada that she has a army of fans ready to give her a big ovation. And in fact, B-man does not even criticize the judges; he just offers that judging panels are affected by audiences. As the PCS explanations detail it, "Projection: The skater radiates energy resulting in an invisible connection with the audience."

I'm not too overwrought about it. All sports acknowledge the "home field advantage."
Just for fun I looked at how many homies won their Grand Prix, as a percentage of total winners. (I did ladies only).
USA: 22/35 63%
Russia: 13/22 59%
NHK: 16/36 44%
Canada 11/44 25%
France: 6/30 20% (Surya Bonaly won it 5 times
)China: 0/14 0%
Conclusion: If you want fair judging in ladies, go to China. Pairs? Not so much. (10 out of 14, 71%)
Seriously, though, sports falls into the category of "recreation ad entertainment." I think there is a natural tendency for officials to want to be the good guys and send the paying customers home happy and wanting more. I, for one, had no problem with Michelle Kwan winning 7 Skate Americas (even though she should have lost to Sarah Hughes in 2001).

Ah, how dim of us not to understand B-man's logic! So when Hanyu has a bad skate & pops jumps but gets high scores & pcs, the judges have been influenced by the screaming fans and the number of poo bears tossed on the ice

There is another issue, though. Sometimes a skater skates better at home than away. Maybe skaters get higher scores at home because they respond to the adoring crowd, rather than the judges.

That is understandable isn't it? The judges are human as well. There are skaters such as Kaetlyn or Ashley and Ade Sots who draw energy from the crowds and radiate the connection in return and if the audience has a huge positive response, certainly the judges are subconsciously going to become more generous in the scoring. If they have a huge fan base at home, they are having a lot more cheers in reality (in contrast to a skater not on home ground). I totally get it why Ade Sots got those monstrous PCS scores in Sochi 2014. That said, shouldn't the generosity really only apply to say the PE component or to IN as the positive audience reaction also suggests that the interpretation was well received? Unfortunately, we are more likely to see every component goes up (despite SS and TR being not related in theory to an audience reaction) and that is what stumps a lot of knowledgeable FS fans.

There are valid reasons for homies to score well. Firstly, they are the top skaters of the host nation, often among the best in the world, so they usually score big anywhere any way. Secondly, they are more relaxed at home, both mentally and physically without travel related issues, Patrick Chan flying in from the U.S., getting delayed overnight, and losing his luggage and costumes not withstanding. Thirdly, they have the home crowd support and can feed off the energy during competition, thus often boosted to do their best or at least an energized performance. Lastly, just maybe, as oft alleged, some judges may be caught up by the moment, swayed by fans' extreme enthusiasm and stuffed bears raining down on the rink.
However, sometimes they skate even better at the biggest international events which offer their own motivation and energy.

That can be true for sure, but the samurai sword can cut both ways. The pressure of high expectations can effect some skaters negatively, or it may even vary at different times in a skater's carreer. In a recent USFSA interview, Mirai said that at 14 she never felt the pressure of expectations she does today.
I think the effect is different from skater to skater.....I think a spreadsheet could be done on each skater on how they will do statistically in this situation of being home or away, as well as how they do in depending where they are in the starting order of their flight.

If all the skaters do their "reasonable" best in other words not some total fluke it should be a battle between Anna, Kaetlyn, Ashley, Karen, Marin and Maria.
