USA gets three skaters for the Olympics. It's been settled.

Thanks for the response but everyone knows it's been settled, my question to the fact checkers (I guess you specifically) goes a little deeper (or at least that was my intent) and is as follows: Is THE SCORE that Karen posted actually what settled it? For example, if she earned a 125.64 and everything else being equal, the US would have only earned 2 spots? I read elsewhere that after the SP, the magical FS # for Karen was 127 something - score above this and 3 go, score below this and 2 go.

Kaetlyn's progression was interrupted with injuries. She's back and Gabby has steadily risen.

Well, that happened.

Medvedeva was fabulous and the deserving gold medalist. Her score seemed a bit high, but she was far and away the class of the field. The Canadians also did well- they were very gritty under pressure! I think the correct individuals were on the podium even if the FS scores and maybe the podium order were wrong.

Osmond looked tight/ slower than she usually is. La Boheme isn't the ideal vehicle for her on the best of days, and today I thought she was going through the motions of her choreography. She landed 6 triples but the whole thing looked nervous and over-cautious, and Osmond's speed and boldness are normally some of her best qualities. Even the ending of Katelyn's program seemed more like an expression of relief than the confident coda to a dramatic performance.

I don't really care for Daleman's Rhapsody in Blue either- it feels empty to me without much going on until the footwork. But Gabby's whole demeanor was more confident and aggressive than Kaetlyn's. Gabby seemed like she embraced the moment better than Kaetlyn. And, Gabby landed 7 triples to Kaetlyn's 6. So, IMO, Daleman should've been second in the free skate and probably second overall. But Osmond's short was fantastic and her free skate was technically her best one of year while I thought that Daleman's short was overscored. So, maybe the overall result is right.

Karen Chen was fast and confident until the very end even if her presentation felt a bit flat. What a great first worlds for her! I'm sorry about Ashley and Carolina and Pogorilaya- my three favorites were abysmal today. It's too bad, because had they skated up to their respective abilities, any one of them might have made it on to the podium.

Hopefully the men and the ice dancers will skate great tomorrow!

Karen proved me wrong today. I was one of the ones who didn't think she should have been sent, but she was the highest finisher today. And not just that but 1 placement away from a podium finish. Yeah, I got egg on my face right now. I'll admit it.

Karen did great today but she is also capable of meltdowns but not up to Pogo-sized.

Wowie, WOW! That was a great ladies' final! Evgenia was marvelous as usual! I particularly admire her 17 year old maturity to block out her teammate's melt down just before and focus on what she can do. I am not a huge fan of that music but she does it so well that she becomes the focus of the performance. And OH CANADA! Huge congrats to Gabrielle and Kaetlyn for going last and standing up to pressure with near perfect performances. I am particularly in love with Katelyn's Italian classical piece and wished she had saved that for the Olympic year. But, regardless, nothing is better than success now so BRAVO! And a big apology to Karen Chen for also standing up to the pressure and with her 4th place finish saving 3 spots for the USA for next year. She is the anit-Gracie - have terrible practices and then do great at the event! I loved seeing Carolina again. She is a treasure.

Finally this season of ladies skating is over, the summation of it being exactly what I thought it would be - the skating is tacky, superficial, repetitive, and forgettable. There wasn't a single good long program in this competition. Lots of random movements going on, more and more of something happening, but ultimately all meaningless. No real development of worthwhile themes, no real artistry. This was exactly representative of a Trumpian era. Lots of big, empty, manic showboating, all punctuated by plenty of cringe-worthy moments.

It's unbelievable that the men, with all their quads and technical demands, are somehow outstripping the women in terms of artistry and choreography. Idk. Maybe age has something to do with it.

Insane that 2 Canadians are on the podium. So does that mean no more Canadian women on the podium at Worlds for 25-30 years since they only medal once every 15 -20 years.

Think you may be forgetting Rochette. And if marking was more honest back then she would have won a couple others too!

Well. I don't know about anyone else but this was emotionally draining for me.

Anna. I don't know. That was gutting. It isn't just that she lost a medal here, we know how it goes there, especially with the youngsters coming in and her chances for Olympics suddenly got really slim. Masha didn't have a good Europeans or Worlds so that might be a chance but I don't know.

Zhenya, right after her ... TAT was blubbing like a baby after her skate, because of everything with Anna and then Zhenya pulled through. She really has amazing mental stability. Incredible athlete and I think people forget sometimes she is actually 17 years old. Just congratulations. She keeps proving that she isn't going to stagnate, she's improving and with new programs next season, it should be even better.

Heartfelt congratulations to both Canadians too, thoroughly deserved (though at least in the FS order I would have them flipped around). Well done ladies for holding it when the going got tough and boy, we are going to have some competition next season.

Finally, congratulations to Mai who jumped ten spots and I hope she's not thinking of what might have been if her SP had been fine but that she is enjoying her achievement here tonight. She has second TES of the night! Now she will hopefully mature slowly as an artist and I just hope the JSF does not exert pressure on her. Gutted for Wakaba because had she been clean, Japan would have had those three spots. She is I am sure beating herself up but hopefully her coaches can help her as she too is so, so young and it was just unfortunate circumstances overall for Japan. It's going to be a bloodbath there next year too, not just in Russia.


Now one tiny wish - please no more emotional roller-coasters tomorrow, I've had enough today and yesterday. My poor heart and nerves can't take it

It's funny that Evgenia broke 230 mark, set no one really cares! Congratz for second gold!

I loved both Gabby and Kaetlyn! Well deserves Silver and Bronze! Kaetlyn deserves the Silver, Gabby had also a Mistake and has worse spins, Kaetlyn was also better in the short. Great for Alaine, she can look forward to the Olympics!

I'm so glad Karen proved me wrong and placed fourth! She made mistakes at the end but even clean, I don't think she would get onto podium. Still, amazing archivement for her and great for US ladies to keep three spots!

Anna messed up only one competition this year, but the most important one. :sad21: I think after SP when she was only fourth the pressure got to her. So sad for her, she is always overlooked by judges. At least South Korea got two spots because of her.

Mai had a great redemption skate! She was amazing. Too bad Wakaba let the pressure get to her. Had she made one mistake less, she could get the three spots...

Overrall, not the best event unlike last year but all the medalists had great perfomances and others who may have made some mistakes also got PBs! The end result is good after all!

After Ashley basically was 3rd after the SP, assuming that all the top 6 would pass her, Karen needed to be at least 4th, a tall order. But then Maria under performed and Karen only needed 5th, which meant beating Mai Mihara. With Karen's lead from the SP, she needed like 127 something. So yes her scored helped her beat Mai and guarantee at least a 5th place finish. And then Anna so Karen and Ashley both moved up a spot, given them an extra cushion for three spots.

#2 Osmond had a step out on the 2a+3t, and she doubled the loop.

#3 Daleman stepped out of the 2a in the 3s^2a sequence.

#4 Chen fell on her solo 3z and stepped out of the final 2a

Only #1 Medvedeva and #5 Mihara were clean.

I don't think Osmond stepped out of 3T - it was just sloppy.

Thanks to Karen, Ashley is now a "two-time Olympic medalist." Ashley skated like she was skating for her Olympic spot and that always makes her skate poorly. Hope Ashley sends Karen thank you notes the rest of her life.

No matter what she does, the fed will never trust her again after this. They won't send a skater who could potentially embarrass herself and most importantly Russia to the biggest stage of all. My heart is breaking. I so love this girl. But she wasn't allowed even the smallest mistake here. I think she's done. Not because she lost her fire or ability to skate. She might win a few medals again next season. I will be very surprised if they'll send her to the Olympics. Actually, this is the best news for Sotskova or even Radionova. And all I can do is cry.....

It all depends on how she starts next season. She must start in full force with all guns blazing. This is to show that when she is on, she podium material. They have Medvedeva for an almost 100% lock on the gold. Why would they go with someone more consistent but less likely to podium? Out of all the Russian girls competing (senior girls), besides Med, Pogo has the biggest podium potential. She needs to get herself together and win her GP events, podium at GPF and skate clean at nationals. Not easy, I know, but she did it this season. Pressure will be on all girls, not just Pogo. Heck, Radionova and Sotskova have not shown good performances in their last events. At least Pogo had a very good competition at Europeans. Cheer up!
