2017 World Ladies FS

Last year 9 ladies had scored 190+ and 7 reached 200+. Now 10 ladies scored 190+ but only the three medallists were above 200. This worlds really was a battle of nerves, and with lots of casualties, too. :ohwell:

The three medallists were wonderful. Power, grace, style, poise and their personalities. Yay! Great work from Mai and Karen who just set themselves up as their new national sweethearts and medal contenders for next year. What a fiasco for Anna and to a point Maria and Ashley. Pogo may get exiled with the talent they have. But here we see that the Russian girls are not u nbeatable and prone to errors. I do wonder if Alina will be ready and stable enough - no growth spurts to represent Russia and if people are so u nstable does this open the door for Radionova or will there be a new comeback queen - Julia, Adelina, Lize, Alena or Polina? Japan will have quite a battle with Mai and Satoko and maybe Marin and a resurgent Mao? Only two spots.

The real winner today was or is Alaine Chartrand from Canada and maybe some girl from the Kaz lol.

Maria Slothskova. Hehe. This is funny. The best thing that happened for Anna is Maria is not well received. So her score will be adjusted at next year National. They won't overlook her blandness and under rotation issues.

Anna and Maria are now in the same basket (of deplorable). Elena is already in there with her hunched back and awkward line. Liza is trying to get into that basket.

Basically these 4 will fight for one spot. They have fair chance at this point.

Evgenia and Alina are locks.

And there is the reason why RusFed does not care about Pogo. Dear Lord, does she have to fall that dramatically every single time? Does that coach teach anything, it's FS 101 and the first thing you learn. It is just unacceptable at this high level. Talk about second hand embarrassment times four.

With Evgenia 100% and Zagitova 99.9% on the team, I hope RusFed make the right choice and send a less embarrassing skater as the third one on the team.

Unless she skates like a skater with fire, then I doubt it. Karen OTOH may have just clenched her spot. She'll have to prove herself on the GP next though. She needs some hardware before nationals.

You are really overestimating the strength of the U.S women currently if you honestly think Wagner isnt likely to make it. In fact I had to laugh at it. Who other than Chen is going to push her out, and you need 3 women remember. Gold having hit a new all time low, Nagasu who continues to have her own issues and who the USFSA and U.S judges would way less rather send to the Olympics than Wagner even if both have a fairly good day at Nationals, Bell who doesnt have much international scoring potential at the moment, and Edmunds coming back from missing a whole year with injury and who was 90% of the time behind Wagner before that injury. I am no Wagner fan but she is likely to make team unless she skates as bad or worse than 2014 (I dont think she would get a bye this time i that case) or it is a shockingly stunning event at Nationals next year.

Federation-wise, everyone but Japan goes home happy here. Even SK now has 2 spots for their Olympics.

They had better not blame Mai, Wakaba, or Satako. Satako was injured, she never should've been pushed to compete in the first place. This was Mai and Wakaba's first world. They already had a lot of pressure. Rika was injured and had no notice that she would even be here. If the Japanese Fed had planned better maybe they could've salvaged something. But they did their best under the circumstances. Watching japanese nationals is going to be heart breaking.

Karen did great today but she is also capable of meltdowns but not up to Pogo-sized.

I will join the crowd who has to admit that Karen was up to the task. I do not love her, though, in these more sophisticated tango pieces. I hope next year they find a nice lyrical or fun piece for her that would be more in line with an 18 year old. There are some 17-18 year olds that can pull that off but I thought the judges were very generous to Karen in their performance marks.

I'm so pleased for Karen. I was one of the doubters after her sub par finish at 4CC's but she proved she's the best for the U.S. this year for sure.! Not only did she get a PB internationally but it's the best score of this year for the U.S. women now, she was the best American at Worlds and top 4! And she secured 3 spots for the U.S. at the Olympics next year along with Ashley! Not too shabby for her first Worlds.

I think Karen and Ashley will be on that Olympic team. It's going to be a dog fight for that third spot in the Olympic season!

Oh dear, what happened to Pogo? I felt so badly for Anna! Like the Americans, it's a dog fight to get on that Olympic team for Russia!

Congratulations to Evgenia, PCS were ridiculous (they went on TES on StSq and ChSq but she smashed them both so I can't complain too much). She was amazing today and obviously deserved to win :luv17: I can't tell how proud I am of Kaetlyn, I almost couldn't watch it from stress. Shame about 2Lo and some thighter landings but overall great performance and deserved silver medal. It was great to see Gabby so happy, siver on 4CC and bronze on Worlds, what a year for her. She's such a great jumper, I would love her to train on that quad toe and triple axel  Congrats to Karen, she had my favorite SP after Kaetlyn two days ago and good free today. I doubted her after 4CC and regret that, she really made these 3 spots for USA possible. What a comeback for Mai, great skate with great jumps. What a shame about short now and 2 spots for JPN ladies on Olympics :hopelessness: Dabin, couldn't be more proud of her, she did everything she could and I can't tell how sad I am for Anna and for sure didn't want her to be in top 10 this way, she really deserved to be in it and give 2 spots for Korea on their Olympics. Shame about Caro, Ashley, Maria, Wakaba and obviously Anna, it was hard to see these skates from such a talented skaters  Overall not the best event and too many meltdowns but happy for my girls, Kaetlyn, Dabin and Mariah. I will miss figure skating, it's such a long wait for next season, ugh but this sports destroys me emotionally so it will be good break  Can't wait for another season to start though :dev2:

Finally this season of ladies skating is over, the summation of it being exactly what I thought it would be - the skating is tacky, superficial, repetitive, and forgettable. There wasn't a single good long program in this competition. Lots of random movements going on, more and more of something happening, but ultimately all meaningless. No real development of worthwhile themes, no real artistry. This was exactly representative of a Trumpian era. Lots of big, empty, manic showboating, all punctuated by plenty of cringe-worthy moments.
I will also have to agree with this. This will be the 1st Worlds where I personally won't be going back to re-watch any programs from the ladies event.

Congratulations to all the girls!!
Evgenia is incredible as always, she is unstoppable :)
Mai you were amazing to come back like that, I hope the best for you next season :hap10:

This was a competition of so many lows and so many highs. In that way, at least, it was exciting. And bless Anna Pogo. I felt for her, but at the same time I think she showed that the best figure skaters are vulnerable to emotion. They let it in, and that's part of why they express it so well. And, 2. Competing at Worlds is hard, People! It's not a walk in the park even when you're a reigning World Medalist, whether you had a good season so far or not. Of course, with all these comments I'm talking about Ashley:love: too.

Computer issues, I missed the 1st few. So the first high point, for me and the audience :), was Mariah. She brought to her FS the element that had been missing in the short: that attack, that fire, that commitment to the skate. Maybe she got her nerves out, maybe the pressure was off, maybe she wanted redemption, or all of the above. She brought it; and showed that she belonged here.:hap10:

Then, immediately after: Mai! Such a beautiful skate, technically and performance wise. So very happy at the end, and so well deserved! I'm thrilled for her, and it's an unpopular view, but I love her Cinderella program. I loved the movie, and it was not as junior-ish as some think, imo. The next skater, Dabin Choi! Very lovely program to Dr. Zhivago, loved her turquoise dress too. I was glad to see Rika return to her Riverdance, I always enjoy it; but it didn't give her the confidence she needed. Elizabet, I didn't get to see yet.

Ashley! Oh, how my heart was torn out for her. But she doesn't give up. She never gives up, and that's what makes her such a great champion. I'd never seen her pop her 3F-3T before, and I think it rattled her. Once she'd put the 2T on the 2A (almost like habit coming through), she couldn't add a 3T or even a 2T onto her 2nd flip in the second half, so there was no way to make up the points. But highs or lows, she keeps doing her best. She's incredibly valiant. Another thing I  about her: after Karen's scores came up, Ashley smiled and applauded for Karen. She's completely genuine. :points:

Go ahead and laugh if you want. But I stand by my prediction. Ashley is not the same. This season was lackluster. And today was an embarrassment. USFS have never shown Ashley love voluntarily. She had to earn it. They are more than willing to push her to the side if she doesn't deliver. My gut it telling me, unless I see 2015-2016 Ashley, she's off the team.

Last years Worlds was the best skated Ladies event i have ever seen. The worst performance from the top 7-8 skaters was Gracie in the LP and she didn't skate bad either in fact most years she would have been on the podium.

I also want to add that is why i hate slanted panel and disagree with it in principle.

You have a faulty junior
Maria get 64.79 in PCS,
a absolute disasterous Anna get 62.86
a mistake ridden Kostner still get 71.03.

Then you get these near clean as personal best performances receive these sort of PCS

Karen 64.33 (Lower than Maria)
Mariah 60.92
Mai 63.89
Dabin 58.73
Elizabet 58.15
Zijun 49.54 (How come her TES only beat Anna's disasterous TES by only 0.96 points???)

How can this competition not looking like rigged towards the Europeans in particularly the Russians?!

One thing is interesting. Why don't you criticize Ashley's 68,17?

I'd just like to say congratulations Med for holding it together and winning Back To Freakin' Back World Titles. Her score was huuuuge and she was really under pressure following the skates that preceded hers. Sad for Pogo......Very sad. With the deep field in Russia, this could damage her reputation and keep her the Olympic Team no matter how well she skates at Nationals next year....:sad21:

Finally, the last time this happened was in 2001 by Kwan. In fact, she is only third skater to accomplish this along with Kwan and Yamaguchi since 1990. And if she goes to post-Olympics Worlds and wins, she will be the first one since Peggy Fleming back in 60s.

The problem is JSF always tried to push Wakaba. This is the same girl that went to Jr World year after year and placed low low low. Always bombed. I don't know why they score her so high normally at home only to get slaughtered in international scenes. She's like Agnes Zadwazki. Inexplicably got good score at home, and got put in her place outside.
Next year, Wakaba is done.
Mai and Satoko are fighting for the second spot. This is why Satoko should have limped out there and done it. When was the last time she got less than 200?

Can you stop theorizing ad nausea for once?

You're still desperate to cross "A" o "B" skaters off. It's annoying.

Fo you placing low and bombing is getting 3rd place twice at Junior Worlds?

If Gracie comes back renewed and landing jumps she will take her title back. If Daleman can win a World medal then Gracie sure can. That's all she ever had to do to win whatever event she was in.

My trip to helsinki arena changed to lay down in fever under the blanket in couch.
But after all it was good competition.
Evgenia did just what i expected second cold medal.
But kaetlyn and Gabrielle yes i am happy for them.
And Mai what a skate and good placement.
Anna can not find words i feel so sad for her.
Mayby next year  for Anna

And tomorrow lest see if Javi takes third cold..............
