Just catching up.
Don't know if I can watch Ashley's skate. 10th in the FS? :noshake:
We have 3 spots, which is great. But I just am in shock about Ashley.
Well it was fine. She didn't fall, just some URs and a bit flat.
Also, digging your username.

The programs won't change until the rules change.
She definitely is. For me the only distracting thing is her less than stellar extensions. Otherwise she's perfectly enjoyable to watch. But I still think that her performance here is less captivating than her GP outings.

And there is the reason why RusFed does not care about Pogo. Dear Lord, does she have to fall that dramatically every single time? Does that coach teach anything, it's FS 101 and the first thing you learn. It is just unacceptable at this high level. Talk about second hand embarrassment times four.
With Evgenia 100% and Zagitova 99.9% on the team, I hope RusFed make the right choice and send a less embarrassing skater as the third one on the team.
Why? Are you going to Helsinki to catch the men's FS tomorrow?
Your inconsistency with logic is astounding. Because you like Anna you emphatically declare she'll survive a bad outing and yet in Wakaba's debut season you said the fed will dump her if she has even one mistake and she won't be able to ever improve. Anna has another epic meltdown and you're of a completely different mindset. That's one moody crystal ball![]()
Medvedeva: It's boring to watch her skate because the outcome (both the success of her jumps and a stratospheric score) seems predetermined. However, it's hard to deny that she is one of the greatest competitors and female athletes this sport has ever seen. Where was the 3-3-3 though!?
Osmond: She is being set up to challenge for Olympic gold next year. I would have had her slighly ahead of Med in the short, and if she gets a better long program and keeps it together anything could happen in Korea. The judges love her and I can't blame them.
Daleman: There is something so unrefined and down to earth about her skating. I think she could have been a power gymnast in another life. Her long program was the perfect vehicle for her this season.
Chen: Wow. People wanted this girl off the World team, she gets injured two weeks ago, her practices were reportedly horrible all week, and she comes out at finishes fourth?! The gods were smiling on USFSA (and Gracie and Mirai).
Wagner: It wasn't her year. She should be commended for fighting through and not completely bombing. Still one of my favorites--under rotations, slow skating, wonky spins and all
Kostner: Love the grace and maturity of this lady, and it puts a smile on my face as a long time skating fan to see her out there. Did not like the long program and would have had her behind Wagner.
Pogorilaya: Johnny Weir was in fine form during her disaster of a performance, and I don't blame him for his harsh comments. There really was no reason for her to stay on the ice for so long after her program. Is it possible to get a further deduction in Performance/Execution for theatrics after the performance is over? Good grief.
.Now that the event was over I went back and watched Gabby's and Kaetlyn's free skates and the big difference to me was that Gabby really seemed to be enjoying herself while Kaetlyn was feeling the pressure. But that is to be understood. No one - (and I am pretty sure without going back and checking) but no one really thought Gabby would be on the podium here! Although I do think some one might have predicted it more as a joke! Kaetlyn was being picked to medal so she was under the pressure more then Gabby. Even if Gabby had dropped to 6th or 7th here - she still would have done well by placing 3rd in the long - so she had nothing to lose and she skated that way!
And for those saying Alaine must be jumping with joy - no so fast - we have a couple other ladies who may surprise next season. And if Alaine does not get her act back together soon, one of them might just past her. Larkyn has been proving herself capable each time out this season. She added a 3F for Canadians and then added the Lutz for the Challenge! If she gets so she can land them both together in a program and Alaine makes big mistakes.... well who knows!
But it was only because I'd seen her live a week ago and knew she was ready to kick butt. what i thought when watching the ladies live:
zijun's music is beautiful, languid, lovely and slow. looking at her - she's very slow herself - it suddenly makes sense. the idea was to choose the sort of music that wouldn't overshadow, overwhelm and dwarf her, probably. i teared up (i only teared up one other time during the event...). massively underscored. touching, emotional performance. should have been above wagner. i mean, both had visible carrots. zijun was at least clean-ish.
...
** there's a problem with the judging. i adore anna but she got a better score than clean zijun li. just think about it. it's just wrong. speaking of silver linings: there were complaints after the sp that anna was held back and the canadians were a bit overscored compared to her. well, she could have been 1st after the sp and with that meltdown it would have made no difference in the end...
for the rest of you guys, here's a graphic about how the judges looked at these ladies from tulup: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/c8rd2cswsaa8nlj.jpg
