2017 World Ladies SP

I see what Ashley means by saving up her fire for next year. That's a mistake. Last year she was had a fire and spark on ice. This year, it's like that spark is gone and she's going through the motions. I think the judges see this and are holding back on her scores.

Kaetlyn skating last :disapp: Anna is in good place. Dabin and Zijun (in first group, fcking bye judges) both are skating first :hopelessness:

Ok, after the SP I predict that
1. Evgenia is going to win :p
2. Anna is going to finish in 2nd
3. Kaetlyn and Gabby will battle for bronze.
Although Gabby looked mighty strong today, she might challenge Anna if Anna has one or two minor errors.

Maria looks gorgeous, and her SP dress is to die for. Her impression though is too bambi for my liking. Always kind of unsure and scared.

I like it. So many sassy skaters that it's nice to see some quiet and understated skating too.

Pogorilya's 3T looked borderline UR. But I guess no one cares since she has a lot of fans here. Anyway, I generally agree with the placements and this was an okay competition. Also, wow at the Canadian ladies! Hoping for them to hold on their placements in the free. They have the arsenal to do it. And sad about Japan. The absence of Satoko there for them is really felt.

We will see only two Japanese ladies next year in South Korea.

I think Mao's chances are nil for a third Olympic Games. This really is a shame. But one cannot really expect others to work for her spot either. And at least Satoko deserves to go, if she's fit.

Tech panel is either totally blind or extremely pro-USA because neither Wagner nor Chen got any URs here. One could think these championships are skated in US again. Most laughable tech panel I have seen for a while. They are really pushing for three spots for US for next season.

Wagner's EXTREMELY clear URs.

Chen's clear UR.

Yeah to me Chen was the most overscored here (and Wakaba the most underscored).

Her 3T in the combo is UR 9 times out of 10, you can tell.

I'm glad Chen had her breakthrough SP (and let's be honest, the rest of that SP was world-class... that spiral sequence... guh!)... but she totally underrotated that 3T.

 Especially her spins! Best spins of the top 7, tbh.

Disagree on the -3T. Looked UR in real time, looked not UR in slow-mo (to me).

Maria looks gorgeous, and her SP dress is to die for. Her impression though is too bambi for my liking. Always kind of unsure and scared.

I think that's why I find her so endearing! I love the diva domination, but she's a real breath of fresh air.

I just don't think this SP is great for her. It doesn't push her emotionally. I expect better in the LP. Based on her interview with Ice Talk with Jackie Wong, it seems like she's really, really in love with the LP. That matters.

For the solo jump Zhenya doesn't have the arm but she does more transitions in and out kaetlyn, that's why goes are the same.

That 3L is perfect. The transitions leading into it and out of it are exceedingly difficult. Few men do 3L's as tough as that, and no ladies (except maybe some of the younger Russian girls) can even begin to attempt a 3L like that.

In fact the GOEs for all three jumps from her SP are low.

I was an Anna fan before it was cool to be an Anna fan....and I thought the -3T was as close as Karen's and Ashley's. Lenient caller helped a lot of people, but people only want to pick on the skaters they don't like.

HOLY SNAKEBOOBS BATMAN! Gabby killed it! :yahoo:

 This is perfect

Dear Olympics,

We're coming.

-Canada

Oh yeah we are!

I think skating after daleman really made ashley's skate small

It was the same thing with Dabin going right after Kaetlyn IMO. Those two just skate so big.

Very interesting and moderate scoring, with the exception of a few e.g. Kostner, maybe Sotskova.

This is a very agonising group, because the scores are so close! Someone like Mihara could end up on the podium if she skates clean, and others meltdown, which, some of the top tend to in the free.

She is 12.6 points behind Gabby, so I guess it could happen but it would take quite a lot of meltdowns.

yes but we can't pass the fact that she had an harder combo than Gabby Daleman. Similar situation to Sochi 2014 ladies SP with Adelina getting an higher TES despite the lower bv thanks to the crazy GOEs.

Gabby always gets great GOE on that combo though. And for good reason.

Daleman's 3T+3T has the highest GOE of +2.10.

As she should. That combo is

Well, when you have two junior-ish ladies who are under a lot of pressure and an injured gal who tends to be undermarked, what can you expect? It's a real shame about the injuries of Rika and Satoko this season, really bad timing (I mean there's never a good time to get injured, but still... bad timing) :(

It's really her best jump, IMO. It even has pretty good height, and doesn't look muscled at all (which some of her jumps do).

There should be rule where the home country for the olympics gets automatically 3 spots. Just like football where they automatically qualify.
It could be a thing if the judges weren't so subjective sometimes, or if the federations weren't so annoying.
