If he is a big name in Russian FS

Plushenko thought Alina will win she was stronger thus he thinks that is well-deserved victory. (But after IdF he supported Evgenia in this mess. Thank God!)
PS: A lot of respect to Butyrskaya for being reasonable.
Me, personally, I prefer to not take sides. I'm TedBarton'ing it - I like them all.

Regardless the flag and their lobby or fandom.
Well, my impression is that Russian FS establishment is not really split on just 2 camps: pro-Zhenya vs pro-Alina. Most people are just choosing to be somewhat in-between.
I especially liked the moment when Butyrskaya laughed at the usual complains about the young age of almost all of the Olympic gold ladies for the last 20 years. She said it is totally ok, because it has been always like that.
Well, if you think about it..
Oksana Baiul (from Ukraine) won over heavy-favorite Nancy Kerrigan (USA) for Olympic gold. And disappeared from the FS scene completely.
Tara Lipinski (USA) upset Michelle Kwan (USA) and stopped competing.
Sarah Hughes (USA) disappointed Irina Slutskaya (Russia).
Shizuka Arakawa (Japan) defeated Sasha Cohen (USA).
Adelina Sotnikova (Russia) upset Yuna Kim (Korea).
Maria Butyrskya mentioned all of those cases to show that there is always a younger ambitious girl somewhere around the corner. And she said it is totally fine as long as fair competitive principle applies. Everyone should be given a fair shot. She admitted with a cheerful laughter that she got beaten by many younger girls on many occasions too and she was able to win her Worlds gold only at the age of 26. Morale of the story is to stop complaining about the rules, about '"wuzrobbed" conspiracies and about "younger" girls, and get to work instead. Let the ice decide. This is more to my liking. Take an example from the Japanese girls. Totally the bushido way!
