, in japan there is importance placed upon senpai-kouhai (hierarchical) relationship.
The skaters themselves may be lax about this when interacting with each other but it does seem to play a large part in decisions made by the federation. The skaters understand this. You don't hear them complaining.
This is interesting. I can understand since i live myself in a country where these kinds of relationships are important. But IMO, when it's sport, merit should come first in criteria.Someone shouldn't be the priority because he wad born first.
