Only a week to the Ladies SP. I expect the three Russians and Carolina to come out on top, but I'm also very curious to see how the other Italians will do, I hope this will be a good learning experience for them :)

Ooh Emmy is using Tango Jalousie!
I have two cats, and my family heard it on the radio and sung "poop patrol" to its tune because litter box cleaning, amirite?
Anyway, shades of Karen!

Also, when did "Rain in my Black Eyes" become warhorse-ish?

I predicted that either Zagitova or Medvedeva will withdraw from this competition thinking that their team won't want them going head to head before Olympics. Both need a showing before Olympics and both are still on the list of entries, I wonder if there will be a last minute change.

Strange prediction, i don't think any of them will withdraw. Only Evgenia might withdraw if she has not recovered fully, but i don't think it will happen (i hope she recovered already)

Why wouldn't their team see Medvedeva and Zagitova compete before Olympics, of course, if both healthy?:scratch2:
Eteri always encourages competition between her skaters.

Strategy. Sometimes you don't want your top two contenders going against one another before, say, Olympics if you don't one going into the event with an advantage.

Following your logic, if Med misses this event too and Zagitova wins, then she'll have the advantage. And vice-versa. So?

My opinion is that nobody has an advantage at Olympics (among the top contenders, I mean). The most strong mentally will win, good luck could play a role, of course.

I agree, ans the OG are just a strange, unpredictable event anyway.

Personally, I'm really excited and mildly terrified for the face-off!

It will be interesting how judges will score Medvedeva versus Zagitova at Europeans.
Will they want to create more competition and suspense towards the Olympics and reduce the difference between them in terms of PCS? Or will they want to keep an invincible Medvedeva? I suspect the first and I think that if Zagitova skates perfectly clean can even win.

It all depends on whether Medvedeva is 100% recovered or not - I'm curious to see if her and Carolina both being there will make Alina's PCS stay a little lower\not rise as much

i think Evgenia will win. SP is Evgenia game, she can scored 80+ knowing this is held in Moscow... meanwhile SP is Zagitova nemesis. Zagitova could beat Evgenia in FS but the SP difference will make Evgenia win overall. Unless Evgenia skate like her NHK FS...

No because they haven't gone head to head internationally, ever. If Alina wins Europeans it will definitely boost her PCS for all future competitions and that would be an advantage. But I think we all agree these two are current favorites for the gold medal and both would like to go to Olympics undefeated. So far this season has played out so that both are undefeated - Medvedeva with her GPs and Alina with her GPS, GPF and Russian nationals.

Mind you, I come from a discipline of skating where there were years when top teams and medal contenders never met internationally until Worlds and this was not unusual. It was just tactics.

Now someone's bound to burst in asking if I am accusing Medvedeva of faking her injury so I'm gonna go. :)

Russians have a clear advantage of being Russian. We know how much clout & influence RusFed has over ISU.

My primary interest about the event is how Carolina can manage her upgraded layouts in both programs at Euros. It will be awesome if she nails her beautiful 3F-3T and 3Lutz either in her free or in both. That means she will be a serious threat to the OGM, which is not what the Russian fed wants. Though I wouldn't be surprised if she reserves the jumping passes until the Team Event or Individual event at Pyeongchang given that she is almost 31 years old, which fact alone is quite remarkable.
