2018 Internationaux de France Ladies Free Skate

I am sure that the team "she is on the right track" will put the blinders and keep going on. No, no, no, no. She is not on the right track. Just look at her face and the face of Borser in K&C. Those are not faces of people who are on the right track. She has to ask for Eteri's forgiveness as soon as possible because now she may not make the team this year already. And this will be the end of her "non Leonova career".

Oh, again with that panic and fantastical solution.
Eteri can do nothing for her now. She just doesn't have the ability to land those jumps and do step sequences with 395248 turns the rest of the time anymore.
Actually you can see her jumps have improved.
Otherwise I agree both programs are underwhelming but there is nothing to be done here, she just has to keep going. She may not make the team this year, she may bomb at worlds, all is possible. She just has to keep going through the tough patch.

To all the people saying Evgenia should go back to Eteri/find another Russian coach: you do realize improving technique isn't just something you can do overnight? She has made A LOT of changes in a very short amount of time, it's far too early to declare failure.

Reworking jumps also means no choreo, no emotion, no performance and missing levels everywhere?

No expression, no choreo, no transitions, no nothing. That was Zhenya's program today. Level problems, shaky landings, weird falls.

Go back to Eteri.

I doubt that Eteri would take Evgenia back. And even if, she will never have the mentality of a sixteen year old again.

When you're young and confident and win everything in sight and the judges tell you you're miles ahead of everyone else, then yeah, skating with an absolute confidence in yourself and your abilities comes easy. When you grow up though, you start to question things, you start to think, you start to ponder. It's not only the bodies of the junior skaters, I think this sport is harder on adults, because the mind does work differently once you're older. These days are the true tests of Evgenia's mental strength.

I'm wondering if all the people crying apocalypse have seen her practices. I really don't see anything alarming for a growth season. She's just been terribly nervous and needs some help managing her new pressures.

Thoughts from inside the rink:

Bradie fought very well, and kudos to her for that.
Marin is an utterly lovely skater. I know some people won't like the blades and dress, but I'm sold. Team Marin :luv17:
Mai, elegance personified. Shame about the pop... :drama:
Rika. A phenomenon. Incredible. It was electric in the rink. She deserved a much higher score.
Evgenia. Well, that first trip up happened right in front of me. It wasnt the best experience to witness, but I hope she takes this as a rebuilding year and comes back strong.

In conclusion, Rika a very worthy winner, but deserved more from that score.

You are here asking for her to return as in Eteri would stay with her after the juniors turn Russian :rolleye:

She is fixing her problems to be strong next year. A skater does not need to win everything to be the best.

Overjoyed for Rika but for gutted for Mai. Oh so close to 1st (and GPF). Scoring wise, she is better than Sofia Samodurova, but unfortunate placement destined to keep her out of it. I think Japan was banking on Wakaba being a star, but once again Mai comes out of nowhere and shines. Without the pop, Mai would've easily gone into first. :(

Meds rise and decline should serve as warning sign to anyone thinking they can predict a ladies skaters career.

Not even bitcoin plummeted this quickly.

Bitcoin buyers are more rational than skating fans. [emoji849]

Still puzzles me why NOBODY in Russia ever went to Irina Slutskaya's old coach .. Gromova!!! She gave Slutskaya excellent techinque for a growing body that rarely failed Slute. Irina was never the best artist but artistry is more inate than learned and Medveeva would have been a great fit with Gromova.

This thread: I don't understand, changing jump tchnique should be so easy, why is she having struggles, SHE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE STRUGGLES WHILE CHANGING ALL THE BAD HABITS SHE PICKED UP THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS I DON'T GET IT, SHE'S DONE FOR

Geez, people.

Go back to Eteri.

Well, I've said it several times, the programs they gave her are definitely not for her, but today it was not the issue. Skater like her must be able to deliver the best even from what does not fit one's nature. The problem today were the nerves. I don't know if it was just the situation or something other. But Zhenya from the past was able to withstand nearly any pressure. Zhenya of today isn't. If it have been just in one occasion, that happens even to the strongest, but it was several times now.

Well, my theory, I admit it probably would not become very popular, is the environment. She was used to the competitive environment at Crystal ice rink, now we see comments from TCC in the mode like "we are all friends and happy here..." But then competition comes.

The Russian technique works when you are tiny, but it’s not sustainable when you grow. Changing her jump technique is an 18 month process.

More precisely, the Eteri Technique works when you are tiny, but is not sustainable. The Mishin technique tends to survive.

I personally enjoy Zhenya's current skating a lot more than her previous incarnation, even if she is making some mistakes as she shifts her technique. For one thing, she looks like a woman skating instead of a kid. And her jumps are showing improvement. The consistency of new technique will come, and her skating career will be extended beyond what it would have been had she stayed with Eteri. I agree this is an 18-month project, and that this season is a transitional time and a bit of an expected mess.

Hey, whatever happened and whatever I've written so far, this is not the end of career! Just have to consider that it will not be dominance, it will be like any other skater with strong and weak days.

Geez, people.

You win.

I also don’t know why everyone assumes the layout change was last-minute. Maybe she was always planning on doing 2A-3Lo but couldn’t earlier this season due to the back injury taking time to heal. It’s not like she literally just started practicing it (or another -3Lo combos).

Never was a fan of Evgenia, but that was just heartbreaking, so A+ once more for the amazing crowd in France who really cheered for all those in trouble and those who had great skates too.

Poor Mai, always does well and it seems, she never gets rewarded. Idk if she could've won this if she hadn't doubled the Salchow, but her tears were also a sign that she was aware that she could've gone to the GPF as well. Really annoying that she missed it. Sofia Samodurova is sweet but I doubt she'll be able to make the podium at GPF.

Rika is a wonder kid - you could feel the pressure was on, and of course this skate wasn't as grand as the one at NHK but, wow, this is a girl that thinks on her feet. Exactly the right decision to do the double axel after the first triple axel. I hope the nerves do not get too bad for her, the GPF is a huge pressure cooker.
To be honest. If you look at all the grand prix performances Mai probably skated better than Kaori and should be in GPF. Mai always seemed a little underscored and Kaori got a few breaks. The best thing that happened for Sakamoto was the judges suddenly getting strict for Shiraiwa in Helsinki FP after Kaori butchered the SP.

Evgenia's main problem is that she lost her consistency because of the multiple changes of the layout. Eteri's skaters rarely change the layout in the middle of the season.
