Yes. I don't also think that a figure skater who uses the same program is taking an easy way out. That's a lazy way to think about figure skating as a sport. Do we also say the snowboarders who use the same tricks over and over are taking the easy way out?
Is there anyway we can see the medal ceremony live?

Agree on penalties. So they should practice some more, fortify their mind palaces, no half-hearted executions to perfect their skating.

I'm going to go back and read you guys' reactions now, mine is pretty speechless at the moment. Congrats to Yuzu, Shoma and Javi! I can't believe someone defended an Olympic gold, after Plushenko and Yuna didn't (and the injury in his build up), I wasn't sure if i could be a believer but his legendary status is cemented beyond anything now. Deserved.
Of course I'm also thrilled for Nathan's redemption, how proud he should be of himself after THAT. Vincent too
, starting in the first group and ending up 6th? Completing the first ever jump in Olympics? I can't accept anything but great things in that young man's future.
These guys are all so brave honestly. I almost felt nauseous with nerves before some of these performances, while sitting on my behind at home, and they go out and do THAT. Nothing but respect.
Of course I'm also thrilled for Nathan's redemption, how proud he should be of himself after THAT. Vincent too

Just a few comments on the event:
1. Yuzuru He is GOAT as I said after the short. This was not his best performance of all time. But, considering that he just came back from injury. Amazing!!! He can really meld artistry and athletics. I love how he is able to do so many transitions but still maintain speed. It is something that only the best skaters can do. Loved it.
2. Shoma. (My favorite). I know people criticize his technique and I don't disagree. But, honestly, I don't care. I love everything about him. I love how he is always in the clouds (which other people find weird). I love his humility. I love his performance because he is so commited even when he makes mistakes he sells the hell out of it and performs like his life depends on it. Just love him.
3. Javier. I was hoping he could get a gold or silver but he has to be happy to have Spain's first Olympic medal in figure skating. He is too good not have an Olympic medal. He is a performer to the core. I love watching him and I hope that after he retires he encourages other Spanish skaters to take up skating.
4. Boyang. He did well. People got mad because Ashley and others criticized him for all the crossovers. But, an honest assessment is an honest assessment. He does not have transistions. However, his basic SS have improved greatly he used to get PCS the same as Vincent Zhou because he skated like Vincent Zhou but he has improved. His SP this year is an improvement. His long ..not so much. But, his basic SS are better. He used to look like he was not moving across the ice at all. Now, he moves not with the grace of any of the other top men but huge improvement. His consistency is also impressive (although he did fall here)
5. Nathan. I am glad that he had such an impressive comeback skate. Technically, it was amazing and his performance really did come out in the step sequence. This is such a personal triumph for him. Now, it was not Mao's long program performance in Sochi (which to me was the best long program I have seen in woman's skating in the last 15 years) but it was a personal triumph. I am not a huge fan of Nathan but I appreciate what a hard worker he is and he does have a natural musicality. I wish the number of jumping passes in the long program would be reduced so that skaters that are naturally musical like Nathan would allow that natural ability to come out rather than just focus on the Quads.
6. Vincent. I hate his basic skating (like really hate-- it is like Boyang when he first became a senior) but he is only 17 and I love his personality. He is sincere and hardworking. So, while his skating did not touch me at all, his commitment did. I was happy for him
7.Aliev. I love his natural musicality and his long is better than the short in terms of choreography. Unfortunately, he had a hard time today. It is the weight of expectations that does it to you. That first fall looked like it hurt. However, after the two first falls he improved and tried to perform the rest of the time. He has good skating skills but I would still work on improving his edges because his SS are not nearly as good as Mikhails' even though his performance ability and his lines are much better. He is going to be a threat in the future and I am happy because he is lovely.
8. Mikhail. I love his basic skating skils. The edges are great. Of course, he popped some jumps. But, he is Kolyada... so that is to be expected. (hope he gets help mentally) I usually love his edges but I am not at all impressed by his performance but I thought he really performed today. He tried to channel Elvis. So,even though I didn't like the program itself. I appreciated the effort and thus really got into it.
9. Patrick Chan-- obviously the basic skating is beautiful. The best. Of course, there were some pops. But, he landed his AXELS. That must have been a major personal triumph. This skate was beautiful and a good way to end his career. Again, as in the short, I think his PCS was a bit underscored. As much as I love Shoma (and I really really love Shoma), I don't think Patrick's PCS should be lower than his.
10. Adam was beautiful. The program is beautiful. His upper body and lines are among the best in the world. I am happy he was able to perform at the Olympics before retiring. I think being in the top 10 is a great accomplishment for him. He has had a lot of struggles throughout his career.
Alexei Bychenko: I just love his smile. He lights up the world with that smile. The skating I don't love so much but his quads were really nice. I was so happy that he did well.
I thought all the men were pretty fantastic today (with a few exceptions) this was not as good as pairs but it was impressive. Really enjoyed it.

Norwegian media coverage of this sucks. There's only two headline articles about the Men's FS that I could find on a quick look in the national news, and one was about how Nathan Chen proved the h8rs wrong after he was criticised for doing quads and the other some orientalistic crap about how "weird" it is that Hanyu received so many Pooh bears. As a Korean living in Norway these types of "look how quirky and weird the Asians are!!1" types of "news" is not shocking to me, but COME ON he just repeated GOLD, focus on that maybe

Yeah, I'm not feeling it right now - and I'm tired of putting serious stock in NBC's skewed view of things.
Vincent needs tons of work - a longer way to go compared to Nathan. For starters, Vincent's crooked posture bothers me (maybe I'm alone in seeing it, but it bugs me), and his overall lack of artistry is very evident. He needs a lot more - maybe a coaching change would help fix certain things? But yeah - until I actually see his progress, I'm not going to crown him just yet. Thanks, but no thanks for the early hype, NBC. :disapp:

Not to be negative towards Vincent, but while he can jump a lot his skating needs tons of work. Everyone should take a page out of Brian Orser's book and learn that skaters need to perfect their SS and the basics before they do 89747 unclean quads. You need grace, elegance and precision, not just lots of jumping.

Oh my...thanks for filling me in. :con3: I hope he'll be absolutely fine in the long run. He really is a joy to watch - a great skater in all aspects & a total sweetheart with that cute personality of his.
Love this podium. Hanyu performing like this after an injury is amazing and well desrved gold. Shoma receiving silver is wonderful. Yes he made mistakes on some jumps but his details in the other elements all the way down to his finger placement is love. I love the way he moves on the ice. However he will give me a heart attack the next four years if he does not improve those jumps. I am like Skating Gods for my health please have Shoma receive a light bulb moment and hire a jump specialist to be with him everyday. Javier how much I love him. Thrilled he has a medal so deserving. Shoma is my favorite but I would be just as thrilled if Javi had scored Silver.

Also loved the part when the camera came in to zoom on all three of them before they came out on stage & Yuzuru turned away from talking to Javi to wave happily at the camera...and then he picked up the hands of serious-looking little Shoma to wave back at the camera.

Brian Orser is genius that both his top Men skaters delivered. Congrats to Shoma too, the costume is so much better than the 4CC one 
And congrats to Nathan for outquading everyone! Truly a Quad King 
Generally, not bad event, there wasn't splatfest as much as most anticipated

Poor Shoma still a bit shell-shocked!!Although I applaud him for being able to shake hands when he got his medal, that jacket was seriously over sized!
Javi had the best pants though! Not sure about the shoes...
