2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

Paul Fentz

Planned quad turned into a 3T+3T, but still well performed. A bit of a skid on the landing of the 3A. Alright camel spin. A bit more expression than I usually see from Fentz in the footwork, but he could have more projection and intention. Eeked out that last 3Lz. Adequate pair of spins to finish.

Fentz just doesn't have a lot of energy, though he was notably better than I've seen for him this year as far as artistry is concerned. I'm always miffed when these skaters choose a fun jazzy number when it doesn't mesh with their personality. I would have much preferred a more serious or stern classical piece on him.

Nothing against Paul, who skated decently, but I personally find Peter Liebers a much more engaging skater and wish he could have been here.

Zhou's 3Toe was underrotated, 4Flip underrotated with -3 GOE quality, and 3Axel was -1 GOE quality at best.

Let's not overreact. Fan in the stadium said it was clear that Zhou's flip was rotated. -3 is a fall. I would give him -1 or -2 on those jumps. (by the way looking at NBC's advanced scoring he got negative GOE on each jump his BV is incredibly high.) People need to calm down.
