Denis Ten in the first group blows my mind.

It's crazy how fast the men have improved over the years. Even the last group has really great skaters.

Meanwhile people who hasn't watched figure skating in 10 years complains the sport is getting worse...

Just looking at the first group, the men will need an insane score just to qualify for the free.

Montoya had the higher combined score from Golden Spin and Spanish Nats. Same reason Hurtado/Khaliavin are and Smart/Diaz are not.

I have to focus; I have my biggest case tomorrow; the media according to my friends are following it. I want to do a good job for the public and the OG men's short program is on now. Oh the agony!

I am really nervous for Denis Ten and Patrick Chan - will Patrick make it to the freeskate? Can he do the impossible - just skate clean with all his jumps. I am cheering for him though I don't have much faith because I think he has earned the love of which Aliona seemed to have. What is good for the goose is good for the gander or vice versa lol. Denis has been going down hill faster than Patrick but both are truly beautiful skaters. So sad to see them as also rans; no one really talks about them as medal contenders. In fact everyone talks about the last group with no respect or interest for Rippon or Chan - come on Paddy - surprise us all.

I sense Nathan is going to do it. So far in pairs we saw everyone bringing it -few falls.

I've got a full carton of Shib-approved Minute Maid and a half bottle of vodka. Hope to be self-medicated by Group 5!

I desperately wanted the ShibSib orange juice. Maybe I could ship some Nathan Chen corn flakes to Canada, but not the orange juice, sadly. Oh well, I'm saving my Tessa and Scott cheerios for the Ice Dance Free Skate.

I appreciate anyone how can wear head to toe white outfits and managed to not blend against the ice completely

The ice are always slightly tinted, so a pure white costume will stand out better than super pale colours, which will wash out worse

Felipe Montoya

Forward landing on the 3Lz+2T, slight stiff step-out on the 2T. Nice hydroblading into a clean 2A. Alright sit spin. Ouch, a fall on the 3F, might be <. A bit wobbly and uncentered in the flying spin. Fairly slow in the step sequence in the second half. Final combo spin felt all over the place as well.

Just a bit sloppy everywhere. I don't think the heavy EDM music in the second half really matches his costume or attitude.

I have really high hopes for Patrick. He got that Team Gold, and he's now the underdog in the men's field; my bet is he'll really be able to relax and go out with beautiful clean skates, without worrying about placements and tech content.

It's 4 practice groups' worth. So, for singles (Men AND Ladies) that's 4 groups of 6, or 24 skaters.
