2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

I was always worried about Nathan burning himself out when reading about his practices...it is basically one quad after another and more than double what the other top skaters are doing. Shoma also go crazy practising his quads but he has his pre-rotation weird landing technique going for him. Boyang does the complete opposite and just do his big elements once and maybe repeat it once if it was not perfect.

I think Yuzuru used to do 15 quads per practice.

funny how everybody is wondering if Nathan should go to Orser or not.

What about Frank Carroll? He did after all get Evan to gold and Timothy to Bronze and neither had Nathan's talent ;)

or are we only allowed to suggest him when it comes to the ladies these days?

Frank Carol is way too old to be coaching.

If you want to be a student of Frank Carroll, you better guard your jacket.

Side note: The Sochi men's SP thread went over 100 pages. This one has just doubled it. Tomorrow there will be chaos.

It's funny that Tara and Johnny are still talking about how it was supposed to be between Nathan and Yuzuru.. I highly doubt that he would have placed higher than Javier even if he skated clean.

Chen's clean layout would have 4Lz+3T, 4F, and 3A, which give him higher base value than competitors' jumping passes. If he had landed those jumps clean, then I would have no doubt that he would be ahead of other top flight skaters.

I almost feel like the russian skaters have a similar attitude to the karolyis in gymnastics - with the whole "next one up attitude" if one falters. Russian girls are great, but I don't like it so much when we get these one hit wonders like Arakawaa, or Sarah Hughes or even Tara who basically had one hit or else were like Tara and were dominant for a season or two then disappear. That's what's been going on with the russian ladies, though EM is to some extent an exception in that she has lasted for a good 3 seasons.

Hanyu's performance was really a great olympic moment for japan in general since i know he is so loved there. I wonder what the skate order will be for long. I don't think Nathan would have done as bad (though i still think he would be off and not win a medal) if he had skated first before hanyu. He never had to deal with the whole stadium erupting over a skater with such a high score. Its concerning he place 6th at worlds too since it indicates a pattern where someone can't perform under pressure. For some of the people who choked like Mao it was more an anomly and they won world titles and even for her an olympic medal before an episode when they did not do as well. But except for GPF we have not seen Nathan compete head to head with everyone and win. And even there he was not facing Hanyu or Javi. He's never beaten them head to head with everyone all in one competition. Much like Carolina in Torino and Chan in Vancouver, the expectations by the media did not fit in with reality - Mao or Hanyu and Yuna deserved to be hyped but nothing that Nathan really did indicated he should have been hyped as much as he was.

"EM is to some extent an exception in that she has lasted for a good 3 seasons" - :coffee:a-ha-ha... Lipnitskaya:dev3:is a 2012:cheer:JGPF&JW:cheer:Chemps:cheer:. As a coach:bow:Etery got 98% of the interGOLD from 2012 to 2018:party2:. What a:shame: shame!!!!!!!!! EM is the 1, #1 in ISU ranking since 2013!!! FIVE GOLD SEASONS.

Alright, who's kinda sad for Julian? *puts up hand*
Anyway, can't wait for the showdown tomorrow!

Me, as a fellow Msian. He did try his hardest best, improving his step sequence.
Hopefully Julian"s able to land a quad in future to put him in contention

Good job Yuzuru and Boyang. Please rest well and hope you guys can have another beautiful skate tomorrow.
