Since 16 pairs make the FS, we won't know who's the first pair to qualify until after the first zamboni break, eek. After the 1st pair in Warmup Group 3 goes!

I think it might be difficult to qualify to the LP with a score like that. This field is loaded and the LP field should really be increased to 20 pairs by now.

I totally agree that it should go up to 20 for the FP. Especially after the SP of 2017 Worlds.

I like this Japanese pairs team. Nice qualities but they need to adjust the way that they enter the lutz and keep working on their pair elements. I think they are new team though so that is normal.

Always real proud of Suzaki and Kihara do doing sbs lutzes. They're not a very competetive team on the international circuit, and it'd be real easy for them to stick to easier elements. But they don't just take it easy, they go for it. They've really grown as performers too; this performance was markedly smoother and more emotive than the team event performance. Great job!

Suzaki / Kihara (JPN)

Their entrance to the 3Lz is quite different but they were calmly landed still. Slight crash landing on the triple twist. A bit careful on the lift but a clean triple salchow. The positions in the combo spin look a little uncomfortable but they should still be at a high level. Footwork sequence was fully non-touching and had fairly simple steps, but a competent death spiral to end.

I wonder if the bandage on Kihara's wrist was bothering him at all. But this was a better performance than the one at the team event and they should be pleased with that performance.
