Who is Russia using for the free program in ladies and pairs?
Do skaters like Sotskova get a medal even if they don't perform?

Well that's a bit of a downside of the Team Event if you've got three spots, someone gets left out!

Hope Maria isn't too disappointed about it!

(Although that makes the Rus Fed look pretty bad for leaving Adelina out in Sochi, no wonder she skated mad in the individual event!)

I've posted before about how messed up WS are, but how is it that Bobrova/Soloviev have the highest WS? Ahead of the Shibutanis? I can understand V/M because they weren't here in the 70% season, 2015-2016, but the Shibutanis! Who medalled at Worlds twice in the WS period (2016, 2017) and have had historic seasons for themselves! For that matter, how are Cappellini/Lanotte ahead of the Shibutanis in WS??!

They do more B competitions than the Shibs. Shibs and Chock/Bates didn't do any B competitions this season so that hurt them in standings (all the others teams did at least one).

But wow, figure skating just doesn't like ties do they? I'd like to see what the chances are of a team remaining tied after all that!

It's actually the IOC I believe. Several years ago they pressured sports to decrease the chances of ties. One thing if they happen in a timed sport like swimming or track but they really seem to hate them in judged sports.

Well, tbh being left out from team was good for Adelina. An individual medal is worth way more than a team medal =)

B/S have done Challengers these past two seasons, and won, so they have 1200 points from that alone. Had they qualified for the GPF this season they'd probably have enough points to be in first place. Also, it didn't help that none of the Americans or Canadians went to 4CC, so that's another bunch of points they didn't get this season.

They do to challengers each season and the Shibs haven’t. You can go to the ISU site to see exactly where their points come from.

Less than 11 hours until the event starts! Hopefully the NBC Olympics site livestream will cooperate. If not, hopefully the twitch stream will come up. Hopefully the skaters are more well-rested and will wake up more energized and excited!

I think that B/S were competing practically once a week this season :shocked:. But with 1 Senior B event, the Shibs would be higher than C/L at least.

This is going to be great!

A couple of keys that I will be watching for. Can Brtadie Tenell finish ahead of Dabin Choi? Who will get secong among Osmond, Kostner and Miyahara? Will Muramoto and Reed hold fifth place?

Bradie Tennells PB and SB in the short program is a few points ahead of Choi's because Choi tends to UR sometimes. So, it is definitely possible for Bradie to overtake Choi but Choi will be skating on home ice. I hope she does well

Osmond, Kostner, and Miyahara is an interesting matchup. They are all my favorites Miyahara does seem to have been struggling with underrotations in practice. Kostner and Osmond both look good. I think Kostner can win that battle if she is clean but that is a big "if".

Muramoto/Reed seem like solid competitors. I can't imagine that they will move down the standings unless they make a major mistake.

This will be great! I can't wait to see this competition

If Maria has that same fighting spirit, she may skate mad and be the upset gold medalist in the ladies event?

So. Team Canada has confirmed D/R for team pairs FS. They are going all-in on that team gold medal then. Does that mean they don't mind exhausting themselves for the individual event? SK/K are doing it for the USA and so are other pairs but they're the only entries for their countries and have no choice.
