2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 2

Yeah, I’m torn between Chiddy and Keegan.

I think Gabby will skate the free tomorrow.

I also could see V/M sitting out for one of the other options.

Do the feds have to submit their free program rosters all at once? Or can they pick and choose after each event based on placements as the competition goes along?

I do think the Canadians have to be careful. Not putting V/M to skate could end up biting them in the butt. B/S already got way too close to the Shibs today, and we all know what happened with the free dance last Worlds.

They should probably get Nathan to do the free now :slink:

He could beat the lot while Adam might finish 4th just above Rizzo

I would hate the Fed if they do this. And it would have to depend on Canada if they're going to use Patrick for the FS as well.
But I'm crossing my fingers that they'll stick with their decision to let Adam skate in FS.

Duhamel and Radford were WAY overscored...like what? I suggest you compare their skate today side by side, with their 2016 Worlds free skate, to see how much they have regressed, particularly in skating skill and program components.

No way, this performance showed wonderful maturity. They were stronger technically in 2016 but I saw some nuances here that displayed better musicality, even if the overall performance wasn't as purely confident.

Hmmm, yes, you’re probably right about that. Who is the second OAR dance team?

Also, on that note, W/P were fourth overall last worlds...

I'd actually have Messing as a safer bet for Canada in the men's FS at the moment with the way Chan is skating, but Chan will always get huge PCS even when he falls, so they may consider it worth the risk.

Evgenia is still the queen whatever anyone says.

I really, really want OAR to win. Go Kolyada! Go Evgenia! Go Bobrova/Soloviev!

Canada looks set for gold.

Ladies -- +8 for Canada, unless Satoko chews down on her jumps.
Dance -- +10
Men's -- Anything between +8/+7

OAR vs. USA vs. Italy

Ladies -- OAR +10; Italy +9 if not a repeat of Euros; USA has to hope for a meltdown from Japan's lady (not happening), or from Canada (PCS probably still stays strong) +6
Men's -- USA +9 minimum if Nathan comes back strong. Adam has to hope for a meltdown from Shoma (nope), Canada (PCS strong if Chan), OAR (possible) +7; Italy +6; OAR +8/+7
Dance --Really can't call it. Hoping for USA getting +9 here. We know First and Last for sure. Shibs can get the +9 for sure, everyone else is too close to OAR and Italy. Probably +8 for Italy (or +9 if USA sends Chock and Bates) and +7 for OAR

OAR = 63/62 -- silver
USA = 61 at a maximum/ 57 at a minimum
Italy = 59 at a maximum/ 58 at a minimum

USA's strengths are so wildly fluctuating.

I also could see V/M sitting out.... but I’m uncertain if Piper and Paul, or Kaitlyn and my dreamboat twizzle borking husband Andrew would make a negative “difference”, points wise?

Do the feds have to submit their free program rosters for all four events all at once? Or can they pick and choose after each event based on placements as the competition goes along?

I think Gabby definitely skates the free. It's her best shot at an Olympic gold medal.

In spite of (or maybe because of) how things shook down in the men's short, I think Patrick still needs to skate the LP. When everyone is messy, or even disastrous, Patrick's skating skills and quality on the non-jump elements mean he doesn't completely plummet down the standings.

I think V/M skate the free. I believe they said they were excited to get judge feedback on the changes they've made to their programs before the individual event, and barring disaster, they will get Canada another 10 points in the free. If you put in Weaver and Poje it really throws everything up in the air. With a skate in the FD like they had at Canadian nationals they would have a shot to beat out the Americans, Russians and Italians, but with politics being what it is in ice dance, and the Russians seemingly making a push for B/S to be in the individual bronze conversation, it could end up being a disastrous choice. I think Canada has to play it safe, here.

Given how long it took to get the rosters up for the pairs long, it seems like the teams can maybe decide until the very last minute.

It would be amazing if this Italian team could get Olympic medals (If they all seriously nail it tomorrow)

This is nothing against the US, but I would totally love this! That would be so the Olympic spirit that these Games are seriously lacking so far. :agree:

let's be real here. Any medals won will never be counted as medals for Russia, but EVERYONE knows they are Russia. They are still the Russian team.

Yeah, and talking about potential disasters, let's not forget WeaPo's SD at Canadians... A mistake like that here in FD and... Ouch.
