2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 2

let's be real here. Any medals won will never be counted as medals for Russia, but EVERYONE knows they are Russia. They are still the Russian team.

Yes, this is true. Everyone knows they are from Russia. Would you rather strip them of their citizenship instead? What matters is that they are competing here as neutral athletes. The point is, they're clean athletes who should not be punished. They are competing under the Olympic flag, as per the rules of what happens when a nation is found to dope.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the only sub Canada makes is Gabby. They really want that gold. If V/M skate, the only way Russia can win is if they take 2nd in Dance, and win Men & Ladies with Canada coming last in both.

Canada looks set for gold.

Ladies -- +8 for Canada, unless Satoko chews down on her jumps.
Dance -- +10
Men's -- Anything between +8/+7

OAR vs. USA vs. Italy

Ladies -- OAR +10; Italy +9 if not a repeat of Euros; USA has to hope for a meltdown from Japan's lady (not happening), or from Canada (PCS probably still stays strong) +6
Men's -- USA +9 minimum if Nathan comes back strong. Adam has to hope for a meltdown from Shoma (nope), Canada (PCS strong if Chan), OAR (possible) +7; Italy +6; OAR +8/+7
Dance --Really can't call it. Hoping for USA getting +9 here. We know First and Last for sure. Shibs can get the +9 for sure, everyone else is too close to OAR and Italy. Probably +8 for Italy (or +9 if USA sends Chock and Bates) and +7 for OAR

OAR = 63/62 -- silver
USA = 61 at a maximum/ 57 at a minimum
Italy = 59 at a maximum/ 58 at a minimum

USA's strengths are so wildly fluctuating.

Hmmm. Isn't Kaori the one doing the FS for Japan? Because if so, Gabby is going to have an uphill battle. However, if Italy doesn't send Carolina, that's opens up another spot at the top for Canada and USA.

Men is unpredictable. If Adam is sent he could probably go as high as first, or last. Kolyada could get first place, Patrick/Keegan could get first place, idk. After the short I'm not betting on anyone.

On dance, however, after the short is clear that the Shibs should take care of themselves, because they can't compete like they did in the GPF, otherwise they might lose to the Russians and Italians. And if Canada decides to spare V/M and send W/P, there's a chance they might lose to any of them as well.

I don't think Canada is in any danger of losing the gold, even if Messing bombs. And fair play to them. All I want is a good, solid silver medal for Team...Russia, yeah, well. They can call it whatever they like, they're still Russians. :rock:

Honestly, I didn't really care about what Japan or Canada were doing in there, because their places are guaranteed.

Actually, you're right for the men's. Shoma wasn't placing lower than 2nd... but would Japan send Shoma if they know they aren't really going to place?

Isn’t Tanaka skating the FS? Japan only had 1 Pairs team, and isn’t that the same with Ice Dance, as well? If Japan doesn’t come up with a 2nd Ice Dance team, it has to be Keiji Tanaka who skates the FS from Japan. If it’s Tanaka for Japan, and Keegan for Canada, Adam definitely has a shot, because I wouldn’t trust Kolyada as far as I could throw him.

I’m not 100% sure how ties are broken but OAR could still catch up. If V/M get 10, B/S get 8 and Gabby/Patrick/Keegan come last and Kolyada/Aliev place first they end up in a tie.

With Alina, Caro, Kaori, and Tennell/Mirai all being able to beat Gabby. And who knows with the men it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Do you HAVE to use both substitutions or can Japan opt to not use both and keep Shoma and/or Satoko for the free?

Love me some Ben Agosto, but no he didn't call the M/H spin the Kazakova and Dmitriev spin :confused:

I will cut you over Natalia Mishkutionok!! :devil::laugh2:

Russia would lose under the tie-breaker. Because they would have a 1st place from V/M and a 1st place from D/R.

That's why it's vital for Canada to send V/M. With that 10 guaranteed it'll be a lot less likely for OAR to catch up.
