2018 Skate Canada Men's Free Skate

Not perfect, but solid enough. I don't know if Keegan can do enough for a gold, but we'll see...

not perfect but daaaang those quads and 3As :luv17:
also since Jason can't be second, rooting for it to be Shoma - Keegan - Junhwan since that's what is best for my predictions

This is the most I’ve enjoyed Shoma in a long time. Really lovely programmes. Probably his best StSq yet in the free. Attention to detail but uncluttered choreography, with real driving tension in the free. Not sure how his scores will shake out, since he’s capped at <9.5 for SS, TR, and CO and <9.0 for IE and PE, even though IE could deservedly be a 9.25.

30 second time cut taking a toll...Shoma with those 2 falls at the end and really winded

First reaction: Well Uno Shoma's damn determined to make up for his short
second reaction: hands down uh-oh
third reaction: Well there's always 2018 worlds so this isn't his worst skate besides the front half was solid

And that concludes today's presentation of Shoma "quads are no problem but can't survive the back half of triple combinations" Uno.

I prefer Shoma doing modern or contemporary but he's a gorgeous mover regardless. Some lovely parts of that program. Too bad the mistakes came on the presto when he needed the most energy. Still side eyeing some of his GOEs on quads because of the takeoff/landing issues.

Ok, GO KEEGAN! Please play it safe for silver, I don't want to give up on GPF dreams for you! Shoma's untouchable.

Don't like the way Shoma stumbled up the stairs with his coach supporting his arm. Hope he's just winded and not hurt.

Shoma got game face on and came out for blood!

Worried he hurt himself after that fall....

So happy to see he has coach's arm to jump into when he comes off the ice

A well-fought program from Shoma today! Really great in the first half of the program, but perhaps some tired, stiff legs in the last quarter of the program: solid 4S, equally solid 4F (could be <), good ride-out on 4T, strong second 4T+2T, good comeback with solid 3A (from the SP), 3A+1S+3F (heavy stumble on 3F), fall on 3S+3T (3T might be <). Luckily, the GOE he gathered from the first handful of jumps will nix out the fall and heavy stumble. But very strong quad of quads!

I like how this program is a study in momentous stillness which Shoma excels at. He's able to take a rather simple movement and make them grander than they actually are. I think that as the season progresses, we'll see a clean version of this program eventually.

Shoma wasn't giving up on gold without a fight.

He gets up from his falls so fast that it really doesn't mess with my enjoyment of the program.

Final TES 101.74. Doesn’t seem like TP called anything.
