2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

So the rumor maybe true according to Brennan's tweet. Poor Ross. At this point I don't think he will get Worlds either maybe 4CC.

Still a rumor though until an official announcement.

Wow.. you don't think they'd give Ross any kind of bone? I mean I wonder if they made a deal with Adam. We will send you to the Olympics but not worlds kind of deal?

Feds don't make "deals". They don't bring all skaters together to sit in a circle and find a compromise everyone's happy with. They do what they feel is best for the sport, the skaters and future results.

I feel really bad for Ross if he's not selected;;;;;;;; He did his best, had two 'skates of his life' AND placed 2nd at the Nats in the Olympic year. Judges could have placed him lower if they just DON'T want him on the team, using UR calls, less PCS, whatever. :sarcasm: The second finish while US has three spots... :slink: What's the point to hold the US Nats then, I wonder?
As for team event, Nathan and Vincent will do really well and US will be just fine methink. :ohwell:

Boy, all my favorites are going down one-by-one as far as Olympics-- Sergei, Jason, Ross.... I guess I'm 1/3 on my want list with Nathan -- which was more of I respect you and your attempts at improving your artistry especially SP want rather than actual want.

AT least I still have Boyang/Hanee.

Okay skating gods, this means ShibSIbs must SLAAAAYYY today.

I do think they want everything to look harmonious though. By doing the approach I suggested it looks good from the outside. Skating doesn't like infighting.

It’s easy to understand why USFSA believes that sending Ross Miner to the Olympics is too risky of a gamble.

How is that risky? Ross wouldn't be a sole US men competitor. Even if he does poorly at the Olympics, what does it change, really? How much better Adam can be? He barely has a shot at 7th-8th place.

I'm terrified for Canadian nations next week. I'll might actually be crushed if I/M don't make the Olympic team. I really don't want KtM/MM to go (not because of Kristen but I really can't with Michael). I want S/B and I/M to go and I'm bratty enough about it to get upset.

I wonder if Adam will get the team event rather than Vincent, they did that with Ashley going to TE instead of Polina in 2014.

My prediction for the team was Nathan, Vincent and Adam to OG and Nathan, Vincent and Ross to Worlds. I think that would be fair to the skater who doesn't make the Olympics but won his Nats medal fair and square.

But I honestly think here at Golden Skate we create too many stories and overthink it. I think it's all a bit simpler in real life. We discuss skaters and events over and over and over again and build these fictional scenarios until we're all convinced there's "no chance the fed would leave XY off the team". Feds don't do that.

No, you have it wrong. All the men at Russian Nats had terrible FSs and they held his PCS down but not the rest. Voronov was totally screwed.

Not denying he was underscored or overlooked. Just saying he was screwed in a different way. Here, Miner actually managed to sandwich himself in a perceived safe position, since bronze as we already knew was a risky place. Still USFA has found a way to sink him faster than one could say Titanic. :slink:

To be honest, I see no point of Nationals in that case. Seems like a pretty pointless exercise to go to Nationals if one doesn't have "body of work".

Well the point of Nationals is to only differentiate two or more skaters who have very close amount of 'body of work' and in this case, the committee was using nationals to decide whether it will be Rippon or Brown that would 'miner' Ross Miner.
