2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

I wonder if Adam will get the team event rather than Vincent, they did that with Ashley going to TE instead of Polina in 2014.

I think it will be Nathan and Adam personally. I think the US is aiming for that bronze so they know what they need to win it. Nathan in the short, Adam in the long. I'd love to see them use the Shibs and H/D but I figure it will be two ladies.

How is that risky? Ross wouldn't be a sole US men competitor. Even if he does poorly at the Olympics, what does it change, really? How much better Adam can be? He barely has a shot at 7th-8th place.
You nailed it!!! Javier and yuzuru were absent from the grand prix...from a team medal strategy it works to the us advantage Nathan in the short to ensure a high score going into the final group and Vincent in the long

It's not. There's not only Olympic, but also 4CC and World spots on the line. As well as building BOW and reputation for future comps and seasons.

BOW....please enlighten me of the acronym. I have no energy to guess right now. Thanks in advance.

"Body of Work"....whoops. Never mind. Need coffee....Covfefe.

My prediction for the team was Nathan, Vincent and Adam to OG and Nathan, Vincent and Ross to Worlds. I think that would be fair to the skater who doesn't make the Olympics but won his Nats medal fair and square.

But I honestly think here at Golden Skate we create too many stories and overthink it. I think it's all a bit simpler in real life. We discuss skaters and events over and over and over again and build these fictional scenarios until we're all convinced there's "no chance the fed would leave XY off the team". Feds don't do that.

15 more minutes until official announcement. :P

I'm going running.

I'm terrified for Canadian nations next week. I'll might actually be crushed if I/M don't make the Olympic team. I really don't want KtM/MM to go (not because of Kristen but I really can't with Michael). I want S/B and I/M to go and I'm bratty enough about it to get upset.

I want S/B to go too, they feel very fresh + I love their programs

Correcting your mistake that shortchanges Ross:

He won bronze at 2012 Four Continents.

www.isuresults.com/results/fc2012/CAT001RS.HTM

That was still six years ago now. I loved watching Ross skate this competition but he just doesn't have the body of work to back it up unfortunately. The others have all placed in isu competitions this season.

I am really hoping they send him to world's or four continents though.

Oh gosh.. will someone in 2022 be proclaiming they were Minered? If you get a nosebleed on ice and keep going so blood flies around while your spin will be be called be Major(ov)ed?

If both happen to you can you say you've been Minered and Majored?

Well the point of Nationals is to only differentiate two or more skaters who have very close amount of 'body of work' and in this case, the committee was using nationals to decide whether it will be Rippon or Brown that would 'miner' Ross Miner.

In that case, they should only call top skaters to Nationals. The whole thing is a mess. I wonder if the same case would happen elsewhere in any other country. Wakkaba had a higher PB than Kaori. Still does not mean I would have rallied to have her go since she fell far short of what she needed to do.

Poor Miner. He deserved better. USFA can rot to the ground for all I care. First ISU and now this. :disagree:

On Russian forum remebered a situation concerning Ross: in 2013 he was a 3rd place finisher at US champs beating Jeremy Abbott by less than a point. And after that he was sent to Worlds although Jeremy was better internationally, performed badly there and USA lost 3 places at Worlds. Maybe usfsa doesn't want to repeat its past mistakes any more.

This is a bad situation, but if I️ had to pick who gets the boot Vincent does not deserve to go to the Olympics IMO. He has had a mediocre season, is only a first year senior with not much a reputation or PCS ability. He was close in score to Ross so I️ could understand Ross to olympics and Vincent to worlds.

That's part of the fun. We see views from all walks of life.

Guys, I need a reminder please. Regarding Voronov. He placed 4th if I am not mistaken, but the Russian fed only named the top 3 to Euros, correct? They did not name an Olympic team. Yes, it is unlikely they would send him, but if no3 royally screws up at Euros?

Eh, I feel like Vincent has had better results in the past couple of seasons than Ross has had in years. Not necessarily spectacular but the "better than Ross Miner" bar is very low. To even compare him to Adam makes even less sense. With his typical results, there's a strong possibility Ross doesn't even make the FS at a Worlds or Olympics.
