2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Guys, I need a reminder please. Regarding Voronov. He placed 4th if I am not mistaken, but the Russian fed only named the top 3 to Euros, correct? They did not name an Olympic team. Yes, it is unlikely they would send him, but if no3 royally screws up at Euros?

RUS only have 2 spots for men at Olympics and worlds

But Voronov unlike Ross got very good international results but performed badly at Nationals. I think that Russian Fed should let Voronov go at least to Euros but no... Voronov is like Wagner-2014 but which was dropped as Wagner-2018.

I think in Russia they are confident they have a lot of good skaters and a great depth of the field, so it ultimately doesn't matter as much who exactly will go. You show up, you do well, you're good to go. I understand the exception they made for Medvedeva because she won everything, and if Voronov had won everything in the past, maybe they would have given him the benefit of the doubt. That said, I was also pretty sad for him. It would have been a great conclusion to his career.

I feel really bad for Ross if he's not selected;;;;;;;; He did his best, had two 'skates of his life' AND placed 2nd at the Nats in the Olympic year. Judges could have placed him lower if they just DON'T want him on the team, using UR calls, less PCS, whatever. :sarcasm: The second finish while US has three spots... :slink: What's the point to hold the US Nats then, I wonder?
As for team event, Nathan and Vincent will do really well and US will be just fine methink. :ohwell:

The more and more this situation unfolds, the more and more I do not understand the need to send Adam to the Olympics. Is it just because he said he should be there?

I'm terrified for Canadian nations next week. I'll might actually be crushed if I/M don't make the Olympic team. I really don't want KtM/MM to go (not because of Kristen but I really can't with Michael). I want S/B and I/M to go and I'm bratty enough about it to get upset.

I want both I/M and S/B to go too.

5 minutes to official announcement.

PEOPLE, wherever you are, look up on the sky. If you are in daylight, the sky would turn black and grey. If you are in night time, white stripes will appear across the horizon.

Because Nathan Chen's Vera Wang would be up there for the next 40 days and 40 nights.

I think there isn't any hope for Voronov to go to Olympics. There are only 2 places for Russian men at OG and Worlds. Kolyada will go no matter what because he is the only one with the chance to medal at OG. And Samarin\Aliev are both younger, have quad lutzes etc. Also Samarin has the power of CSKA behind him.

OMG

It's like Vera thought (if she designed both SP and FP) he was going to a funeral and not the nationals. She should perhaps stick to designing wedding dresses. Her Lysacek costumes were a fail for me and so are these.:disapp:

The men's field is really not that deep. Voronov had the 2nd best season after Kolyada, medaled everywhere except for GPF where he was 4th (but skated close to clean, unlike the medalists), but the Fed strongly favors Samarin because he's young with a 4Lz (and veeeery empty skating, but at least no URs like Vincent). And they held up Dima who's very promising but has been injured all season, with middling results, because they didn't want Sergei to be a spoiler for Samarin at Euros.

In that case, they should only call top skaters to Nationals. The whole thing is a mess. I wonder if the same case would happen elsewhere in any other country. Wakkaba had a higher PB than Kaori. Still does not mean I would have rallied to have her go since she fell far short of what she needed to do.

Poor Miner. He deserved better. USFA can rot to the ground for all I care. First ISU and now this. :disagree:

Other countries do do this. For instance Australia named our Olympic skaters before this season even started. I think they pick based on who wins us the spot. It works well but probably only because our field is so shallow. Our top male won nationals by like 30 points or something, and he didn't win one gp medal this year (I love you Brendan, no shade here). Edit: if he didn't win, he'd still be going to the Olympics regardless.

Nationals aren't just to pick the skaters for the next competitions though. There are loads of additional purposes for it, including gaining experience and showing off the sport.

How high does USFSA and the fans at GS think Adam can place at the Olympics? I understand bumping an athlete for another with medal potential but I’m not sure the prudence of dissing your silver medalists for someone who isn’t going to have much chance to stand on the podium. I’ve never really been impressed with Adam’s skating so maybe I’m just missing something. Maybe he is considered to be a potential medalist.
