2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Congratulations to the Olympic men's team. Absolutely the correct decision (and more logical) even if it's a sad situation for Ross.
No decisions for the 4CC and Worlds teams yet?

Well advice to the youngsters (Krasnozhon, Torgashev, Johnson, Hiwatashi, et al). Don't wait till 2021-2022 season to do well. Start your BOW collection from the first season after Olympics.

You do not want to be Mirai-ed or Miner-ed at 2022 Nationals.

If that was the case Ashley would be on the team right now. USA fed is gonna do what they want regardless of the criteria they claim to judge

even if you did past 2 years you can make a case for ashley

ashley national champ 2016, 2nd 2017, 4th 2018
worlds 2016, 2nd, 2017-7th
gp final finished 5th medaled in both events in 2015/2016
2016/2017 medal in one
2017/2018 medaled in one wd in another
2014 olympic team bronze medalist
7th @ olympics

karen chen national champ in 2017, 3rd in 2018, 2016?
2016 worlds didn't go-went to 4cc finished 10th 2016
2017 worlds finished 4th, 4cc 2017 finished 10th
2015/2016 gp events?
2016/2017 didn't medal didnt qualify for gp final
2017/2018 didn't medal didn't qualify for gp event
3rd in challenger 2017 u.s. classic

mirai nagasu

2015/2016 4th nationals
gp events did she medal-didn't qualify for gp events ,
think she finished 10th year at world
2016/2017- 4th nationals
didn't go to worlds 2nd at 4cc
2017/2018 2nd at nationals
2017

than you can't add the 2010 olympic season in only go back 2-years or even the 2014 olympics
they have no bearing on body of work if use only 2016-2018.

so mirai 4th place at olympic in 2010 shouldn't count, adam 6th place at olympic shouldn't count
as well as anything prior to 2015/2016 season.

yet they factor it in as what -veteran to teach/show other the ropes of the olympics and know how to handle the pressure

but base point is you cant' choose adam over ross without them choosing ashley or who, bradie,=just jumped up, mirai, karen-
they went strictly by nationals and the 2017 worlds

could do the same ross didn't go to the 2017 worlds, in fact the last time ross miner medal at u.s. was in 2013 past the 2 year body of work of which his scores, pcs, tes reflect that because of
jason , vincent, adam, nathan,

mirai-2016 4th last minute for polina where she finished 10th worlds
i think medaled in one and 5-7th in her other one.
2017- 4th at nationals last year,
medaled in cup of russia 3rd, 9th -or last in her other one
2018- didn't medal in her gp nor win her events

mirai- 2

the US men's Olympic team is two Asian Americans and an openly gay man. How great is that! That has to be a first for the history books.

:cheer:

Good for the committee members for not being prejudiced.

However, I don't want to see race/sexual orientation being considered at all when choosing teams. I'm sure it has in the past, but it's never right.

I hope the decision to not choose Ross was based solely on his skating, not on his status as a "straight white male." As far as I know, he's straight, anyway.

Let's just hope that USFSA start sending 3 men and three women newbies included to the Grand Prix the Russians and Japanese do it all the time and that's why they're skaters are known internationally they move up from Junior so fast to the Grand Prix I never understood why the US doesn't do that anymore it's the same older skaters all the time

I'm still thinking through this but are the implications here that someone like Ross or Grant had no chance for the Olympic team? That was Ross at his best and with a quad ending in second place and still nothing? Something about that feels wrong despite the fact that I wouldn't call it an injustice. I would have been more comfortable with Vincent being left off for Adam, but it was a tough decision all around.

That seems to be exactly the implication. You can't do horrendously for years, have one good competition and expect to reap the rewards. As long as the skaters know this going in, it feels like a fair assertion tbh.

Ross had two good skates, but I would send Vincent, Chen, and Rippon.

As a Brown uber, I'm about to pop open this bottle of wine and slam it. He's definitely not on the team.

Seriously, stupid idiot judges. The PCS was ridiculous for Vincent, and they had NOWHERE to go afterward. No way Ross or Vincent get anywhere near those PCS at Olympics, if they go.

I should probably bet on something today. Sucks for Ross, but yay for me on guessing correctly?

comes down to this

nathan beat adam the past two seasons
adam beat ross
vincent beat adam at nationals on his 1st year at senior nationals.

women
bradie beat them all
mirai beat ashley score wise
ashley beat mirai in placements
both beat karen chen

nationals bradie , mirai, karen beat ashley at nationals
karen chen beat ashley at world in 2017.

Good for them for not being prejudiced, but none of these things are supposed to matter in a sport.
If Ross was dumped because he's a dreaded straight white male, or if that played any part in their decision, then the sport is doomed.

Lol. I love how the prospect of cishet white dudes being treated like everyone else has had to deal with being treated is always such a dystopic scenario in people's minds.

Don't worthy though. Cishet white dudes are not going to be oppressed anytime soon.

I'm still trying to transition out of the old system and I'm not sure the new one is superior. I love body of work but figure skating is also about catching lightning in a bottle when you're under pressure at nationals. In 1992 they left out Mark Mitchell who was in 3rd instead of Paul Wylie who was in 2nd but was a much more inconsistent skater (though a beautiful one). I preferred that decision.

GOE Question

Hi. Sorry if this was answered elsewhere -- I couldn't find it. Based on the official results on icenetwork.com for the Men's Free Skate:

1) How did Adam get a GOE of -4.00 for the under-rotated quad Lutz that he fell on (also got a -1.00 fall deduction), and how did Max get a GOE of -3.54 for the fully rotated quad toeloop that he didn't fall on (no fall deduction)? What I mean is what in the rules gets someone to a GOE of less than -3.00?

2) Conversely, how did Jason get a GOE of -2.10 for the downgraded quad toe loop that he fell (and rather slid) on? I thought -3.00 was "mandatory" for a fall.

Thanks for any information.
