2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

I know Jason Brown had great scoring potential when he could land a steady 3Axel, like at last season’s Worlds to finish 7th and help the US men to have 3 spots for the Olympics, but a consistent 3Axel has been missing in action in his competitions this entire season. Last season was last season . . . I don’t understand how he was named as 1st alternate to this team. Again, his entry into the Grand Prix Final this season was only the result of Jin Boyang of China withdrawing from the competition.

OK! I am absolutely ok with this this men's Olympic team and I am absolutely not furious with this at all. Deservedly so. Absolutely happy for Adam Rippon AND Vincent Zhou! :yahoo:

Wow, so the 11-1 vote was not even to decide if Miner should be miner-ed. Only to decided who would miner Miner.
Miner being miner-ed was an unanimous decision from the beginning.

Since the 1St alt and 2nd alt are only one spot away from each other I'd say Ross was Nagasu'd in the alt listed, after he got Miner'd on the Oly team.

I thought Ross might get the Olympic nod and Vincent the Worlds. I'm afraid Ross will be left with 4Cs. I hope Ross gets some "bone" out of this, maybe an endoresement or a career opportunity. I also wished that he had picked a more classic or poignant piece of music for his FS. As soon as "Crazy Little Love" started I envisioned an exhibition event and Ross in leather pants. Cute but not memorable. I know that's largely a matter of taste but the whole performance was technically wonderfully and artistically old for me.

Good for them for not being prejudiced, but none of these things are supposed to matter in a sport.
If Ross was dumped because he's a dreaded straight white male, or if that played any part in their decision, then the sport is doomed.

...that's not what I meant at all. Just that it's a nice thing for gay and Asian Americans who will be able to see someone like them, representing their country. I highly doubt that had an impact on the decision made.

WTH?!?! Max Aaron gets 4 Continents even though he finished in 9th for the second consecutive year at Nationals. That is the biggest joke of the century! Why should these other more deserving men even continue to compete?

Miner'd to the 2nd power.

I am very surprised he didn't get worlds. I wonder how he is feeling about this?

Miner-ed and Mirai-ed in one event.

There's a Malaysian saying: Already fallen from the ladder and then got struck by the falling ladder.

My predictions turned out to be just right with the exception of Max for 4C. I didn't see this coming...

I know what you mean, I am also proud of the diversity of our Olympic team!

Rippon may be on to something . . . Does Aaron have family members on the selection committee? If I were Max, I would be too embarrassed with myself to accept that invitation.

GOE Question

Hi. Sorry if this was answered elsewhere -- I couldn't find it. Based on the official results on icenetwork.com for the Men's Free Skate:

1) How did Adam get a GOE of -4.00 for the under-rotated quad Lutz that he fell on (also got a -1.00 fall deduction), and how did Max get a GOE of -3.54 for the fully rotated quad toeloop that he didn't fall on (no fall deduction)? What I mean is what in the rules gets someone to a GOE of less than -3.00?

2) Conversely, how did Jason get a GOE of -2.10 for the downgraded quad toe loop that he fell (and rather slid) on? I thought -3.00 was "mandatory" for a fall.

Thanks for any information.
A -3 GOE does not equal -3 points. It's scaled based on the difficulty of the element. so a -3 GOE on a 4Lutz is -4.00 points, while a -3 GOE on a 3Lutz is -2.1 points. Here is the Scale of values for pairs & singles elements. http://www.isu.org/docman-documents...tc-sov-and-goe-2016-2017-revised-july-14/file

comes down to this
vincent beat adam at nationals on his 1st year at senior nationals.

No he didn’t Vincent was 8th his first year at Sr Nationals in 2015-16 and Adam was National Champ.
And last year 16-17 Adam w/d due to breaking his foot.

Miner and Hochstein should both just retire as it’s clear the federation will never give the two of them any fair shot at anything. Why prop and protect Max Aaron of all people??
