2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Well you also forget that if zhena skates clean she will probably get silver. A clean zhenya beats a clean stasya and we know it

No I didn't forget. We were discussing that Zhenya might help Liza at Rostelecom, and someone said that we mustn't forget that Stasya might also be of help. Zhenya as expectted, Stasya being the surprise...

I can tell the same if she back fired. I really think a clean You will score higher than a clean Satoko.

She would, but she's 7 points behind Satoko after the SP. She would need to be squeaky clean. Satoko is rightly getting dinged on UR but PCS has risen dramatically for her.

Aliona is already in puberty. I don’t want to comment on young girls’ bodies, but it is clear if you look at photos from the 2017-18 season to now that body changes began last season. Yes she is still very short and will likely remain around 5ft tall, but she has already started to undergo body changes and looks more “adult” than “child” with wider hips and shoulders compared to her waist.

Mao, Liza and Mirai have all been able to execute 3As with a woman’s body, and Rika is not “child like” either. As long as the jump depends more on height and timing vs. only rotational speed, it should be okay.

I agree, she looks a lot less like a little girl than she did a year ago, she may still grow taller though but I doubt by much.

It can happen without a warning. Alina had a grow spurr after the olympics, she grew 7cm in four or five months and her body matured. We can’t predict when the 3A will have mature bodies.

I don't think Anna will change that much, she will just fill out a bit, and with perfect timing for the Olympics.

Without commenting on a competition that might be going on....watching men and women doing a 3Lutz3Loop....Trusova really does the best one that has ever been done. Although it is scary as heck-that split second timing she has after landing the lutz and taking off for the loop. And I don't know if she will always be able to do it-just that incredible 'snap' she has-I just hold my breath every time she does it. Still...it really is a cool thing to watch. And I don't think anyone else can or has done it like that. (I've seen her do 'snap' drills on warm up-also pretty cool). I think Alina came close a few years ago, but I think that was before her growth spurt, and it still wasn't as quick as Trusova.

I agree because well Evgenia probably is a better skater and let's be honest Stasya has been a lot more inconsistent that Evgenia. Out of all the Russian top skaters and second or even third tier skaters Stasya has probably disappointed the most.

Stasya is wonderful when she skates well, but she rarely does.
Then again, Zhenya is not the model of consistency she used to be... who ends up ahead between the two at Rostelecom is the one who makes the fewest mistakes.

Yes Trusova's quick takeoff to her loop combo is a sight to behold. She looks like she just touch the ice on her lutz landing and goes straight for the loop.

Speaking of the 3Lz-3L, what was going on with Anna's today, it was called clean but after someone mentioned it I went back and... the Lutz landing, on two feet? In a weird way

I think it may be the loop takeoff. When doing a solo loop, skaters cross their legs in a similar way. Not sure if it can be done like that in combo though.

But will they luck out with competition where URs are uncalled while several competitors bomb at the same time?

Did someone else deserve to win that competition. I can't seem to remember. When she laid down that SP you know it was pretty much game over.

Zhenya still has the cushion of world and olympic reputation. A "meltdown" from her at Skate Canada left her at ~63 pts in the SP. Stasya's meltdown left her at 48 pts at Skate America. Both may be called inconsistent (Stasya much more so than Zhenya), but judges will still prop Zhenya up and give her a fighting chance in the FS (which she usually seizes).

99 times out of 100, I would bet on Zhenya over Stasya making the podium. As lovely as Stasya is, she hasn't shown her potential this season.

But will they luck out with competition where URs are uncalled while several competitors bomb at the same time?

The technical panel didn't saw any under-rotations and didn't call any under rotations. If the saw under rations, why should they not call them? That will be unfair and wrong judging. The technical panel is professionals and they are doing their job the best they can, which includes fairness too.

By the way, these several competitors never scored higher than the highest score of Alina so what does mean they bombed in this context? Since their potential is still theoretical. When they will score higher then we will have something to say.

If strip all these skaters of their presumed 'reputation bonuses', how do they stack up against each other here and now, with the GP season half way?

I.e. based on the skating routines actually shown since season's start?

Sadly there are still some who have not gotten over her shock win last season. They must have expected her to fold like a cheap tent at Worlds.

The 3A are ahead, they've shown they don't need reputation scoring to beat the others.

It wasn't exactly a shock, she was very much capable of it and was still one of the favourites.

"Fold like a cheap tent" lol I love that phrase!

Very glad Alina did not do that too xD

Rika popping (or falling) in the short program happened at almost every competition that season, I would hardly call that "lucking out". In fact, Rika didn't land all three triple axels at any competition that season. Alina won by delivering when the pressure was on. And who else bombed? Kaori had one pop. Satoko had some URs but never would've beaten that score anyways. Evgenia was strong. Elizabet landed a quad. It was a pretty strong competition if you ask me.
