2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

But it's a false narrative.

And dismissing criticism as envy, with no proof, when in fact it could just be criticism.

No one will convince me, without absolute proof (not "oh Country X wins so much and they all hate us cause they ain't us" because that's not proof) that it's jealousy, and I don't think I'm going to convince anyone who wants to believe it, so....

:bed:

It's a bit of both: some criticism is constructive and fair to bring up (this is not a flawless judging system after all), and there is also a bit of envy if you consider some of those people who criticizes happen to be your main competitors so they certainly have an interest to generate this negative buzz.

My idea is that the system would be fine but it's the way it's being used which is often dubious.

If you give high components because "Quad bonus" or in spite of multiple mistakes/falls, to me you are legitimately not caring enough about the components mark. (and again i'm against of weighting more artistry but the PCS is there for a reason)

It's unlikely that Sima and Liza N. will get GPs next year but I hope they'll get some international assignments.

Me too. And I think that even if they had scored 200+ at Warsaw Cup, they wouldn't get any GPs. Too many Russian Ladies already in the SB list. But I hope for Challengers next year.

8. Anna Tarusina
9. Anastasia Gubanova
10. Anastasia Gulyakova
12. Alena Leonova
15. Maria Talalaykina

These are the ladies from Rusnats last year that didn't get any assignments at all this season. There should be a global law that says that everyone at RusNats at least gets a Challenger. After all, qualifying to RusNats is hard.

Are you really trying to deny that detractors throw insults at Trusova that go well beyond "just criticism"?

"Fake champion", "Circus act", "robot", "ew" and worse are all word for word things I've seen written about her. These go further than just criticism, they come from a place of envy. Where else would it come from? Maybe some people give "just criticism", but it is ridiculous of you to claim that you know that everything said against her is just criticism, when clearly many "fans" of figure skating go beyond this. But yup, "false narrative". And yet you go complaining about the harsh things said against Evgenia, but I guess you turn blind when innapropriate insults are said about Trusova. No, of course anything said against Trusova is "just criticism". Of course. :slink:

My grandmother had wise words for me when I had dreams of becoming a successful figure skater (it didnt happen obviously lol)

She told me I would need to have to be very strong and thick skinned, because "it is not the losers that get the most abuse thrown at them, it is the winners"

I think that sums it up nicely.

To be fair, Sasha did score less in PCS than she did at Skate Canada where she had one fall. Admittedly it was only a point, but she was skating at home.

Full free programs. They all were skating in the last group.

Thank you. Kasia is such a delight to watch. Her reaction in the k&c was sterling. Anyone feeling glum only needs to watch one of her skates for a quick cure. With Liza N also present, there was a surfeit of bubbly souls. Good skating by Vika S, and Alessia T has been doing very well this season.

This is very true. But it doesn't mean that us fans can't condemn this unnecessary abuse, especially when it seems to be coming more often than normal even for a champion.

I agree. Nastya Gubanova's case was the most the most egregious since she had a top 24 SB (Anna T. too but initially it looked like she was staying in juniors but then she announced her break / retirement).

@ RusFed, please, give us one more flight of skaters at nationals and give them all international assignments.

Well if some in herewouldt shoot at every possible moment at a certain person , because yes to make her look bad again for something that is not her fault because beeing choose as captain for the gala means beeing first in that finale line up. To try to again bring people here up against her when nothing is wrong with her beeing the first in line, and then even still standing by her accusation even when I and others told her that it was her job beeing first in that line , that for me is a no go, but then again nothing will ever change in this thread, nothing I mean why do I even bother

No offense but I think you mistakeingly interprets people's opinions as hate.

I do condemn it. It makes me angry

Figure skaters are humans with feelings and emotions just like the rest of us.
It is especially maddening to me as I have a 16 year old daughter of my own. I know how I would feel if it was her getting this kind of abuse hurled at her, I'd be devastated.

Wait I'm confused? It seems like Brian O is merely saying it's be nice for Zhenya Med to be able to make the World Team, not that he's saying she has to be.

I don't think he's suggesting that the Russian Figure Skating Fed just put her right in the team, no questions asked.

Do not wake a sleeping bear.
Do you remember how Zhenya got to the world championship last year?
In Russia, 50% still cannot forgive her for this. At least the whole of St. Petersburg))) Despite the bronze.

To say that this could happen again was not smart.
And why do this before the Russian Championship?

What is there to forgive?

Zhenya didn't put herself on the World Team, she didn't push Liza aside herself and head off to Worlds

I didnt say hate i said you try to tear her down in here, i mean looking at last year for example where some in here wished for russia to loose one of their 3 spots just because zhenya was choosen to be in the team. A person who has last year wished people to boo zhenya out, a person who now tries to make her look bad because simply she was first in line at the finale which as captain was her place, then said person was told that it was that way because she was made captain for the finale said person still wants to make her look bad even knowing that it was her job to be first in line? Sorry but I will not shut my mouth and be silent at this point. You do not have to like zhenya, but to try to make her look bad for soemthing she had to do because it was basically her job should should not be in here.

You also know that it was not her decision? But that of the council to send her, tell me would anybody here than give up there spot? No and anyone who does it is not an athlete

I actually think Tarusina is as much a victim as Gubanova is. RusFed forced her to stay in juniors (again!! she was senior already last season). Then her injury came. I understand that she lost her motivation and quit altogether. But had she been giving a GP spot, who knows, injury or not, how her motivation had been??

They use anything they can get in here against her.get used to it i would say .let me be clear if this goes on I would say the weather can be bad and she would be at fault for some people in here at least that is the feeling I get [emoji2356][emoji23]

It sounds like to me that injury forced her to quit, she had knee surgery after an accident in 2016 and it seems to continue to be a problem

It's not that bad.

You'll get used to this sort of thing, I'm learning to.
Some people come here just to antagonize and then they go away

New Interview with Orser in Sport Express Newspaper

- What goals will you set for yourself and Eugenia at the championship of Russia?

“We will just continue what we do.” I would be glad to see the same skating from Zhenya in Krasnoyarsk as here - in short and free programs. It would be wonderful, and most importantly - it is in our power.

Of course, it would be nice if she could immediately get to the national team, and we would not have to try to qualify through any other tournament, as it was last season. Although it is wonderful, she got a second chance and took advantage of it. But I do not think that we will be aiming at any particular place.

It seems that 3A ( Aleksandr Lakernik, Aleksandr Kogan and Aleksandr Gorshkov) are preparing a new scandal.

There will be something to talk about))))))

I read it in Russian and it was a little subtler. I don't know what exact words he used in English. The way they phrased it in Russian was more like: "Of course, it would be nice if she managed to be picked for the national team directly". We understand that she has to be first or second for that. Still in "she managed" it's more about her own efforts rather than some plot by "three Alexanders" which one can assume in "immediately get to the team".

I was one of those who was very disappointed when Zhenya was selected. I thought Liza was robbed. But I was disappointed in RusFed.

I still think Zhenya was overscored at Worlds and lucky to get the bronze as I think both Kihira and Sakamoto should have been above her and Tursynbaeva.

In hindsight though, RusFed made the right decision. I honestly don't think Liza would have done any better.
