2019-20 Russian Men's figure skating

I want to say how much I enjoyed Gleb's free skate. I'd never seen him skate before, and I loved everything about his skating: smooth, suave, powerful but in a rather understated way (and I love understatement. :)) I look forward to seeing more of him.

Because I started watching only at the very end, I saw Gogolev's program first. And it made me so angry that he finished higher than Gleb. Not because of politics, which I'm not going to address. But because it seems that this is a main thing that's wrong with figure skating currently: that a skater who fell (at least?) twice, and fell quite awkwardly, finished over one who skated like Gleb did. Of course it was because he'd banked so many points in the short program, but in my opinion, that throws doubt on the system. And I don't agree with Ted's assessment under-rating Gleb's artistry. Not in my eyes, anyway.

The whole judging felt a bit political, like I said in other threads it makes figure skating less interesting.

Glen Lutfullin had the only clean and cleanly landed quad Salchow of this event, he can take that with him. In most fields that skate would have been enough for the silver, here only the bronze, hopefully enough to get the second spot.

It wouldn't even be that important, Gogolev gets the second event regardless of the placement, for a Russian skater a bronze medal could be the end of the season depending on what the teammates will do.

I have always the same thought after a men's competition with russian men: WHY THEY CAN'T SKATE TO PROGRAMS CLEAN? WHY THEY HAVE TO CHOOSE TO BE GREAT IN ONLY ONE PROGRAM?:palmf:

I really liked Gleb's free skate ... and probably he deserved the silver ( well SP did't help)... and finally a men that can beat the girls !!

So Vetlugin is out.

Kutovoi & Lutfullin will definitely get a second assignment and Rukhin is a maybe.

we'll see, i'd say Rukhin is most likely out, Lutfullin and Kutovoi depend on the others.

Mozalev, Gumennik, Danielian and Samsonov still to come and they all have quads and 3A, they can outscore both of them.

Then there are also Artem Kovalev and Georgiy Kunitsa which are a bit less consistent but they could still grab a silver.

If they all get gold and silver, Lutfullin and Kutovoi are out as well.

There are 5 boys left at the next 2 events. Lutfullin sure. Kutovoi has to wait on another Russian guy to bomb. Then he has to hope Kunitsa and Semenenko don't skate well/win this Moscow event next week as either can be subbed in to complicate matters.

Hopefully all these boys repeat their good performances tomorrow. The free program will bring more variation in scores, but still FFKKR might decide who to send to JGP using other criteria.

Kovalev is not getting any assignments on the JGP. The fed didn't put him as a sub to anything except Riga.

But if can skate to programs clean I think they will put them in some JGP

They cannot put him anywhere as he is not a sub to any of the events. You cannot sub a skater in if they are not on the substitution list. Therefore he will not get a JGP event.

Andrei Mozalev won JGP Riga, Daniil Samsonov finished 3rd.

All skaters were a bit rough in the free, Andrei won with the higher technical contents (beautiful 4t-3t).

Daniil Samsonov good improvements compared to the test skates, good debut finishing on the podium.
