I absolutely adore Matteo's minimalistic skating style. So beautiful and pure. Well deserved standing O!

I want to state for the record that I call Matteo Rizzo for World Champion like ... next year if he doesn't somehow dark horse his way to it this year.

Matteo! A beautiful, soothing performance after two of my other favorites (Boyang and Deniss) went splat. My eyes and my nerves thank you, good sir.

Matteo Rizzo (ITA)

Tech: Very strong 4T to open, very square on the 3A, nice running edges into the combo spin (a little wobbly), well-presented edgework on the step sequence (not a lot of impact though), wonderful 3Lz+3T as well, well-centered flying sit spin, good rotation on the final combo spin

Pres: Really strong technical skating today with very solid jumping this time, a supple skater with nice feel for the sensitive music, the choreography could be stronger and have more highs to create more dimension but he is able to pick out some of the nuances in the music despite the softer music

Score: 93.37, TES 52.41, PCS 40.96

Look the program is no great shakes. It's pretty. It's serviceable. It's somewhat forgettable.

But man has Matteo come into his own. He ELEVATED that serviceable vehicle into something greater than the sum of its parts.

Bravo.

Now get a better choreographer and better music next year. And not, please, a homage medley to another rock group from your parents' vinyl collection. Oh, and work on your arm gestures, which are still pretty random and generic.
