And this is figure skating fans in Russia talking about a genuine icon Idol and hero to Millions.
1) This is Instagram generation fans to whom he has never been an icon or an idol, many of that generation remember nothing beyond Sochi and his Academy, both being not exactly his strong sides.
2) Moreover, having money is still a moral crime in many Russian eyes.
3) Those to whom he still is a hero very seldom write comments.
4) I don't know if the English speaking community watching figure skating uses similar incredibly disgusting language, full of hatred, almost or really obscene, but that's what one unfortunately encounters in Runet. Not only in sports, also in everyday life, under all blogs that allow comments. And please believe me, it is rarely real hatred. It is a kind of game, a competition, where users hiding behind nicknames try to imitate trolls. Success is finding your opponent's weak spot and hurting him as deeply as possible. The most important thing is to "win" getting the last word.
To me it is unacceptable, that's why apart from professional communities I prefer communicating in other segments of the Internet.

Exactly. I don't think the judging is necessarily unbiased. But it is subjective, obviously. And I do think some skaters are favoured and receive more lenient calls. However, I don't think it's limited to merely Eteri's skaters nor is it all of Eteri's skaters. Plushy and Mishin's skaters have benefited in the past too.
And other skaters (particularly Alexander Samarin who the Fed have propped up for a long time) .. and Konstantinova I think is a bit overrated in general.

Which Plushy skater? I ask this as I didn't pay attention to who he coached before recently.

Mishins skaters haven't really received bonuses for being Mishins skaters. The only skater who got overmarked was probably Plushenko himself (particularly in later years). That's fun irony (2014 team event he got higher components scores than Patrick Chan and hanyu 🤭)

And this could certainly be part of the reason that Shcherbakova really wants that third national title in a row - all season we've been seeing stuff like this about Valieva, and here's Shcherbakova standing up and saying you aren't going to forget about me.
Yes, agreed. And this is why it's RusFed who is doing a disservice to all of the girls. There would be the proper nationals competition they so sorely wanted if they'd just postponed it a few weeks.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be sure it isn't a serious injury. She's refusing to skate her best quad because her injured leg can't support it. She's wearing tape quite a bit. Her coach has said it's a "serious injury/trauma". She had the worst performance of her life at Rostelecom. She's clearly injured. Yes, it is an opportunity the issue is she's also "clearly not in top shape". And RusFed will take into account those who are missing for future assignments. They've already said Nationals won't determine the team.
Well

Well, she is a veteran skater now (at least for russian standards). Injuries will creep in all the time and it will get worse. Its normal, especially for older figure skaters. we are all fans of an extremely physical demanding sport which comes with serious injuries and for sure is not healthy at the end of the day. But thanks to her incredible tech abilities she can opt not to jump 4t and replace it with 4lz. ;) Be a smart veteran and use your wappons wisley.

No. She's been doing both 4Lz and 4F's in practice all season. They've always gone with the one that is the most stable in practice in competition.

But agreed on all three should withdraw.
She did it in her run-through which is the difference. And no, she does way more 4Fs in practise and all her run-throughs have been 4Fs so far.

Sigh, and what happens if xyz skaters got sick/injured, if nationals wasn't moved again you'd hear cries of favoritism; the Fed has had an event going on for years for under-performers or skaters who cannot compete at Nationals, there was no need for them to change Nationals now and open up a can of worms.

You make excellent points especially about the Instagram fan generation does not know about how great have you any plushenko was as an athlete we know just about what he does or says or his actions as a coach and leader of PA. The most interesting point you made about having wealth and flaunting it is still a moral crime in many Russian eyes.

Thank you. I am old enough to make those points 😉. And a life of teaching ICC and 20 years of judging (not sports, but a highly subjective field, too).

As it shouldn't be, being an athlete and coach are 2 very different things, too many times you see great athlete/celebrities get excuses made for them because of how great of a figure skater they were (in Plushenko's case), that doesn't mean he is or is going to be a great coach.

True. In most sports here in America great players do not make great coaches or even good coaches for the most part. The jury is out on Afghani for Shanco is a cold Speakeasy got handed a Leona coaster Nia brilliant talent and super Sasha we know what she can do and what her potential is. We have to wait and see if he and his Academy can develop skaters into champions.

Director I ***** hate you!
Kamila finished that amazing performance and instead of showing her reaction you change to her coaches box?
Shame.
As I said many time coaches are important but they are instrumental to the skaters not the other wat around.

Kamilas 3Lz getting double GOE than Sasha's 3Lz? Sasha's first 4Lz getting lower GOE value than Kamillas 4T's? These are decisions that would keep me up at night. Also why is every jump a rippon jump? And why Bolero - she deserves better?

Okay now I've rented I'll take this moment to congratulate Kamila on an absolutely superb and wonderful skate. Well done!

He did it again
I saw anyone on the venue except Anna smiling.

Anna laughs at us from behind her guise of "just recovered from pneumonia, can't breathe after a short program, terribly ill". Little did we know that this was all an act, all part of her grand plan to get us to underestimate her as much as possible before the free skate. This is how she charges her power - FS fans underestimating her.
