But I have trouble thinking of anyone who‘d be able to pull that kind of choreo off without looking like a fool.

You hit the right point again! That's exactly what went through my head and I have to say that I'm really a little scared now.

Fully agreed. He would be such a good russian skating lady :luv17:

Plushenko and the Russian ladies may share many characteristics, I don't know enough about them. So if that was the intent, then

But Plushy is not, and never has been, a Russian lady skater. I don't understand the conditional of "to be" here. But if he knows all the same techniques as Russian ladies skaters, then it makes him a good choice to coach one.

You are the expert

Yes, no doubt. I'm expert of him! Plus I'm on the internatinal forum for long years thus I can say I know his haters, too. ;) Perfectly. Sometimes I know what they are going to say.... The haters aren't too complicated.

Today is the day Mishin was expecting his rink in St Petersburg to open up again, right? Anyone heard anything?

Saw a pic of Stasya back on the ice in Moscow with the rest of the Volkov group. Still waiting for news on the Snow Leopards...

I hope it‘s not for Trusova. She said one of her programs will be to slow music and that‘s fine - it will be good for her to challenge herself artistically. I think she’s capable of a lot more than she’s shown so far!

But at any rate: Happy Birthday to Sasha! :)

I was hoping that the slow program she mentioned would be something on the happy side, as she has such a nice smile. But even if this is her program, I guess there's always the other program. On the other hand, so many people have skated to this music, I don't know if its a good idea. But I believe in Sasha. The one thing is that they said Rozanov choreographed the programs, and this does not look like Rozanov choreography, but who knows. But then again, who else's choreography would Plushenko feel the need to perform on Sasha's birthday?

And yes, happy birthday to the girl who has changed the face of figure skating!

Why is Stanislava not in Kislovodsk? Is it like Ryabova where she trains under the AoP name but her real coach is Volkov?

Is Muravyova in Kislovodsk?

Where are the GP assignments? Last year it was announced 20th June. I get it that this season is somewhat special. But I want to know! Now!:)

I was watching this video of Sasha’s and it stroke me how different her flow and movements looked compared to her performance in this competition. The first half mainly. She looks so much better in practice, and maybe the clothes helped. For me, one of the mistakes of this program was the dress before the revelation, it was hideous and didn’t flatter her at all. The other big mistake was leaving the step sequence for the faster music cut. That step sequence would have been hard even for very accomplished skaters in skating skills, and it only showed her flaws. I wonder what the program could have looked if they had left the step sequence for the first half, or maybe not even using the faster part of the music. I was pleasantly surprised by how much better her movements seemed in the first half of this video, and I wonder if the dress was the only problem. I totally get why she prefers slower music, she probably got traumatized with this step sequence, which is on a Mao Asada level, but unfortunately not on Sasha’s. Coaches should know how to show the best of their skaters - Anna’s and Aliona’s SP are good examples of this. Sasha’s SP is not.

Check out also the test skates.

The FP was also visibly smoother there.

Anyway, I prefer to see her in her black bib shorts. These simply fit the sporty Sasha best.

I actually found the dress for GOT even less advantageous. The cut was catastrophic. It always looked like Sasha had a bloated belly (which is a shame - she has such a fantastic body shape!). At the end of the season, one was afraid that it would burst at the seams.

At the time, I thought the dress for the Japan Open was not quite right, and that the blue one was a better colour choice for portraying Daenerys, but while I am amusing myself by rewatching past seasons, I went back to that triumphant skate, and found that I really quite liked her dress there. Personal taste, but I think I actually do prefer the cut of the skirt in particular on the Japan Open dress. As for the colours, well, they aren't quite Targaryen black and red, but they are close enough, I suppose? At any rate, looking back, I do like that dress more than I did at the start of last season!

While i agree your examples are good examples of rhythmic knee actions (or musical skating) i wouldn't call them difficult at all, and put them in the category of difficult steps and turns.

...what? That one-foot sequence from Chan was full of "ISU-approved" difficult turns, and Abbott's had a deep outside roll with edge change + choctaw + turns in the opposite direction of his jump rotation, right before the entrance, which is not easy. The back-inside to forward-outside 3-turn should really be considered a difficult turn on its own anyway (depending on how you enter the turn, it looks and feels nearly identical to a counter turn anyway), particularly the type done in the opposite direction of a skater's natural rotational direction.

I also disagree that higher number of transition is pointless. It can be pointless in regard of being constantly related to every beat of the music, it certanly not pointless to showcase your skating ability.

But that's not what skating is supposed to be. If you are doing constant movements without the depth and steadiness and run of edge, then what level of "skating ability" are you actually showing? Furthermore, if performance/choreography/interpretation components were being scored correctly, then why should someone want to do a movement that would only help one component score, transitions, while hurting 3 other components? The answer is - most people wouldn't want to. The components are simply not being scored correctly, thus people do hackneyed programs and get the scores anyway, which in turn makes an entire generation of skaters look at skating like that and try to compete like that.

They are not that difficult in relation of how long the cluster is, or how much time they spent on one foot. Cause this is a Russian ladies skating thread you can see how much time Zagitova spent on one foot comparing to Abbot. You can use the stopwatch too.

This is just not correct. Chan spends longer on one foot in that sequence, and does more turns during that single duration, than anything Zagitova has ever shown in a program. The "amount of turns done in relation to how long on one foot" is very high too. It's funny you say to use a stopwatch, and act like Zagitova is doing almost nothing but one-foot skating, because if you go watch her program from last season, you will see many crossovers and a big break where she just stands there doing almost no movement in the middle of the program.

I also must point out how weak her attempted change of edge spiral was - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXZEM9osim4&t=2m33s - lack of extension, bobbing free leg, unsteady edge, not very deep edges, and lack of duration on the first edge. I was shocked they put that in the program, it is NOT good, and I cringe watching it and hearing the audience sympathy clap just because someone is doing a spiral. Her lack of quality right there shows an important aspect that has been missing in skating, and her own deficiency in skating skill.
