An adult response would be without all the "extra" words she chose to include, i.e. "Stop smoking drugs" (not literally but close) / "none of your business".

None of your business is a great response. The equivalent of “no comment”.

Much like an adult response would be “I wish any skater who goes elsewhere to train well, and I have no further comment” ;)

ETA: and I apologize for doing the whataboutisms that I dislike so much myself. My bad :noshake: But it is clear at this moment that Zhenya is happy where she is, and the questions seem silly. Unlike a comment on something that has already happened.

I wish all the skaters the best: Anna, Alena, Sasha, Alina, Zhenya, Liza, who are happy where they now are.:)

Not sure what Eteri had to do with this. "None of your business" is TBH rude to a fan who is asking a question. Even I have no further comment would be better. She just doesn't know how to answer questions she doesn't like without it coming across as rude. Something I have noticed over time.

I don’t think she purposefully tried to be rude.
It does in fact sound quite a bit off in Russian, more like „mind your own business“. I think she also claps back a lot to her haters on internet.

I just think over the years of experiencing a ton of criticism, hate and trolling, she just became a lot more defensive to any comments, whether or not there was any malice, which I don’t think you can really blame her for that. A lot of people would probably start responding back at certain point, when they reach their boiling point.

On the other hand, the best for her would be to just ignore it and never read her social media comments.

Alina has gotten some nasty ones, including threats of getting poured with acid, which is simply appalling. None of them should have t encounter anything of this sort.

Are we really discussing whether a woman answering to rumours that have been persistently asked for about three months with “none of your business“ is rude? Bit of a reach, isn‘t it? :scratch2:

I‘ve gotta admit, even after two years of this thread, it‘s still puzzling to me. I was trying to answer a question about the Evgenia-Plushenko coaching rumours a few pages back. Seems like a simple enough thing and yet we once again get back to the fundamentals of Evgenia‘s character and her life decisions. I mean, you all do you but... really?

“It is none of your business” is actually very straightforward and professional IMO.

Also can someone show me where it was stated that her response was exemplary adult behavior? Because I just saw it was posted to share her statement on moving to Plushenko; whether it was the most maturely worded response in every way imaginable is beside the point. All of this “let’s bash Zhenya to prop up Eteri” is just weird. I mean is Zhenya a coach who runs a school and works with children? Is she spreading rumors and gossiping about minors? There is no comparison.

It sounds less rude in English than in Russian. And, again, I think there are less rude ways to answer a question from a fan, as I don't think this is a question that warranted it. I have no clue why you are bringing in Eteri... I am just commenting on this because I read that post from her earlier. If other disagree, great...

Also, a bit confused, but since when has the rumor of her going to Plushenko been around for 3 months? Yeah, it's been speculated that someone would be leaving for Plushenko , but wasn't aware it was Evgenia that has been rumored to go there for the last 3 months

Is this the part that you interpret as "close" to stop smoking drugs?

(Medvedeva) "This answer is not only to you but all those who hinted at sensationalism."

Nah, it’s about the first sentence that includes the word “Vakhanalia”.
Off topic and going off into linguistics, but I think it’s “bacchanalia” in English? Hard to translate that one, basically means something like drunk destructive behavior, I’d say? It’s really hard to translate it :D

Yeah, it's hard. It's like debauchery maybe? That's one other word I can find. but yeah, like stop your "drunken disorderly conduct"

I'm partial to Eteri because she coaches my favorite skaters. Probably, I wouldn't have even started watching or being interested in figure skating if it weren't for Eteri skaters (first Yulia, then Alina).

I think that's the point. Did you suddenly start discrediting Julia when she retired? Would you stop liking Alina if she switched to a different coach? If you liked Medvedeva before, or Trusova or Kostornaia, why not continue to wish them well in their new adventures?

Very weird. I wish them both well.

Sasha left in May. That‘s when it first came up. Plushenko hinted at a sensation back then already and since Zhenya‘s still in Russia, it‘s been brought up on social media relatively consistently since then. Now that Aliona left and during an interview with Plushenko three names were dropped that could potentially switch next (Zagitova, Shcherbakova, Medvedeva), people have been asking her again. It‘s probably not three months, rather about two and a half but.. that‘s really arguing semantics now, isn‘t it?

That‘s hilarious, gotta remember that expression.

No...it was more her "stop with your bacchanalia" reference, which is not really smoking drugs per se, but more like "Drunken revelery"

Thank you both. I love this board!

Actually, the meaning in any language is straight-forward enough. It refered originally to Roman festivals honoring Bacchus, the god of wine (Dionysius to the Greeks).

Now I know how to spell it in Russian. :)

No, I only started following FS after the 2018 Olympics, so I couldn't really have an opinion about Yulia's career after Sochi.

If Alina left Eteri in an ugly way, I think I would be extremely surprised, as Alina has never been a controversial person. But I wouldn't turn against Eteri and of course I would wish Alina the best and would still be her fan.
I do wish Medvedeva, Trusova and Kostornaia well. Whatever happened between them and Eteri is already in the past and I look forward to see what comes next for them.

Strangely, that routine seems to be what "ladies" figure skating has become these days.
No, this routine is the base. A fertile soil on which beautiful flowers are going to grow and take our breath away in the future.

It was known to Greeks toο as Bacchus (Βάκχος) . For example in Euripides' tragedy "The Bacchae". The chorus says:

"I come from the land of Asia
I left the sacred Tmolus, urgently run
the effort sweet, blessed the tiredness
for the Bacchius scream long live, good live"

So Bacchius (Βάκχιος) is like epithet to Dionysus. In a similar way that Phoebus is an epithet for Apollo.

P.S The translation is mine may have errors.

One thing I've learned in this forum...
Almost anything is justified and even past mistakes are forgiven, as long as you're not associated with Eteri anymore :p

And one thing I’ve learned from this forum is that almost any statement of Eteri’s will be defended to the hilt and justified and  because, waaah, everyone’s always picking on her :p

Many things can be learned here:biggrin:

Hmm, are we reading the same posts? :scratch2:
I don't think defending or justifying Eteri has ever been a prevailing opinion around here.

Everyone is clearly reading different posts. Attacking/defending Tutberidze, her skaters that leave and her skaters that stay are all ongoing clarion calls. That's why this is the biggest thread on the forum (though sometimes I suspect it doesn't actually have the most actual people posting).
