Anyway, the argument that just because he was a great skater, he automatically will be a great coach has no real basis.

Your words:

speak different.
All I said is that him having been a great skater makes some people willing to give him a try when he starts as a coach. It does not mean I believe it makes him a great coach. All it means is that I believe it just adds to his appeal as a potential coach. Which is hardly arguable.

And lopsilceci wasn't trying to put words in your mouth either, they were being rhetorical. Although yes, I do remember some here saying that he had good technique so he'll teach good technique, just for instance.

Here was a response I'd made to someone who's been cleverly avoiding this thread:

Oh, if it was not meant as a reply to me then I just misunderstood it as directed to me because it was posted as a reply to my post. Sorry for the confusion then!

Who will dispute the dominance of Eteri in the Russian female FS in recent years? You? Oo
Seems like there's a twist of the words you doesn't do for the first time actually. In this case you used the word "monopoly" originally, now you changed it to "dominance". Those two words have pretty different meaning and I truly don't think I need to humiliate anyone to explain the difference. Let's speak about Eteri's dominance, which is coming from the reasons I mentioned above and somehow I see your words "there is something wrong with that" as the root of all problems. You obviously see the very fact that Eteri is more succesful than other coaching teams as a problem. Well, that's a competition. It's like saying "this company produces better cars, but there is something wrong if they have better sales because of that."

If Eteri has a "dominance", it's not because she has a "monopoly" (because of any alleged rule that would force anyone to put their kids to her, again, see above), but because she is a better coach than the others and that is not something to be ashamed of but the other way around.

And nobody says he or anybody else shouldn't be given a try, whether he was accomplished skater or not. The thing is that the fact that he was an accomplished skater doesn't prevent anybody from pointing out that he personally has exactly zero accomplishments as a coach, therefore any questions about his coaching abilities are completely legit.

So why don't we just agree on the fact that Sasha and Alyona, two of the most talented female skaters there are around right now, have freely decided to give him a try despite his, what you call, "zero accomplishments as a coach", and just wait and see what comes out of it. Just give them some time. Why getting so vicious about it right now? So early in the process? Ain't it better to just call it a day and wish each other a nice afternoon?

Are you seriously? What nonsense! Well, I'm ready to apologize for causing a misunderstanding. Because for me "domination" = "monopoly". At least in the context I mentioned.

And do you see me with the banner or a placard saying "take Plushenko out of coaching"? No. If I say something than it is that he has no results as a coach and didn't persuaded me to believe him. Just this. Legit for me.

She has taken girls who were good...and made them into stars. At 12 Trusova was a somewhat talented, but unmemorable skater. But at 13-at her first jr. grandprix-she knocked it out of the park. Same with Aloyna and Anna. Alina had talent, but Eteri brought about refinement to her skating, improved her jumps and made her into a star. Don Quixote will stand for a long time as a brilliant program and Olympic performance. Not to mention the costuming of Alina in the red tutu. The Eteri group is wonderful at packaging their skaters, and presenting a product that rises above the rest. And while some of the choreography isn't stellar, much of it is, as well as wonderful musical choices for each skater.
I think Trusova in particular made a terrible decision moving to Plushy, one that was influenced by her parents and money. Kostornaia might be better off with Plushy's group, especially as he is willing to allow his skaters to receive guidance from outside choreographers, jump specialists etc. We shall see.

Well, actually yes, I do see you with a banner saying: "Plushenko has no results as a coach and didn't persuade me to believe him". Legit for you. But just why make it into a banner? Have a nice afternoon!

Yes, I'm completely serious. I don't see it for the first time when you suddenly use a different word with a different meaning just to fit what you push forward.

So, to make myself clear:

There is not a single wrong thing on "Eteri's dominance", if I may use this expression, because it's the dominance of better/more succesful athlete/team/company. If Sonja Henie was a dominant skater of her time, there was nothing wrong with that. If Eteri's team is dominant, it's nothing wrong in that, if they are simply better than the other teams.

Having a monopoly, on the other hand, means having an advantage (unjust, usually) others can't have for some reason - law, rule, resources. Which is not the case here.

Here is a good example of what I talked about in my first post today. These are absolute speculations brought here from the "yellow" pages of the Russian press, the only purpose of which was to stain Sasha and her family with dirt during her transition from Eteri. And now it is accepted as true and not even questioned here. Goebbels' methods live and flourish. "If you tell lies often, loudly, and for a long time, then many people will believe" (c)

NEWS HEADLINE: Angels of Plushenko skater, Stasya Konstantinova wins SPb tournament last weekend. :coffee:

(I would prefer to be reading/posting about talented and beautiful skaters, but coaches are a very big part of skating, so....I guess that's what we're doing here today.).
BTW, is there a full list of the results?

From a skater’s perspective, is it something normal/to be expected, when you take longer time (0.5 year to a year) to get the harder jumps back after a continuous break (such as COVID) or is it a sign that you might not get them back at all?

From the examples we’ve seen so far, there’s mixed evidence, i.e. Anna didn’t restore her 4T she once had post her injury break, although she restored both 4Lz and 4F after the COVID break. Alysa also doesn’t have her big ticket jumps just yet, possibly due to both growth and implications of the long break.
Sofia seemed to restore her 3A and 4T only when they were already back from Novogorsk to Crystal rink, meaning it took some time to get those jumps back. Sofia Samodelkina seemed to have 0 issue due to the break, her 3A was back and she has time to learn 4S in addition.

I get that there are a lot of factors involved, but is it realistic to expect that the jump a skater once had would be restored sooner or later? Or is it more likely that those jumps might be gone for good?
Anyone?

No, just the placements and scores of top 3. It was a „secret“ event.
I wonder why they had to have 2 round of test skates? They already had some prior to that if I remembered correctly.
I know, I was more interested about who were the participants. I remember I saw Sofia Samodurova's name, but I think Liza was not there?
