We do not forget Aliona receives so much hate, attacks from Eteri fans everywhere..on IG, on forums. Can you imagine how much pressure was on her? Can you imagine if you would be such situation? Plus this was her first competition since January. I hope she and the coaches are going to handle this situation and she is going to understand this is not the end of her career. Plus she doesn't have to hurry at all.

It makes me kind of mad because there‘s fanart of costumes out there that looks 100% better than what she‘s got now.

You don‘t because she‘s struggling to skate clean. These girls are not machines and it might surprise you but it‘s very hard to emotionally engage in a program when you‘re not comfortable with the choreography and not trained enough to get through the jumps easily. The way she skated last season was an exception, not the norm and sorry but it IS nonsensical to expect the same level of “magic“ after that off-season. It will come. Give her time.

Agree with you about the costumes but like I said, most dresses for most girls this season are rather bad, programs relatively uninspired. Who really stands out? And not to mention that Aliona‘s FS was choreographed via skype and her and Shae have never worked together before. There‘s like tons of factors that need to be taken into consideration that it just seems needlessly petty to make passive aggressive comments and call Aliona things like a “muffin on skates“.

There‘s legitimate criticism to be made about the program - it‘s just not there yet. Fair enough, I‘m not saying she should get 76 PCS. But there‘s a way to word things and it‘s also obvious when criticism isn‘t made for the sake of it but to push a certain agenda. That was why my original comment was that harsh.
they’re so quick to write her off lmaoo the fact she went out there and skated clean despite being out of stamina that’s just so brave of her.

Everyone knows about her season and the struggles.
It's not about putting in transitions everywhere, it is about the whole picture. Last season she had programs, choreography and costumes that suited her well.
This new season the choreography is generic, not highlighting any of her strengths, the dresses are horrible and make her look like a muffin on skates and I don't see any of the artistic "Aliona magic". And so do a lot of people here.
"A lot of people here" is not the best sample, trust me. People were hating on her FS last year too even though I liked it, and her SP was the same as two seasons ago (which was marvellous despite the bad music cut). I'm not even sure why bad dresses is a major criticism, are you looking for a fashion show?

Choreography still needs work, but the jumps are there, maybe she injured herself with spins since they were looking very good in the clips. People expect way too much. Being completely clean on jumps across programs aside from 3F-3T step out is a positive to me.

i'm happy her team hasn't been sharing any 3A videos, it is only added expectations and pressure on top of all this other stuff she's had to work through. she doesn't need it and it would only deter from training. just another thing to worry about.

Exactly. Those are the moments I wish she didn‘t change coaches because it‘s just so tiresome to have to defend her again and again against people who don‘t even care about the skaters but only see them as tools in their “coaching fanwars“. Imagine what these girls have to go through if they fear for their scores and career because of the media slandering against them. It‘s just insane.

But then I remember how she looked devastated last year after almost perfect skates and compare it to her laughing at her mistakes yesterday. And it reassures me that she‘s in a good place. I still don‘t trust Plushenko (sorry, but what he did to Tarakanova and Sakhanovich was downright awful) but I have to give credit where credit is due. He seems to be doing something right for now - I liked the way he made Aliona laugh in the K&C yesterday. Let‘s see if it lasts.

Two things he needs to learn, though: 1. WEARING HIS MASK. 2. Showing up to medal ceremonies.

I guess Sasha was the only athlete who won two Golds at this competition.

Well they didnt post any 3a because obviously she doesn't have it (yet)

Agree that her dresses are horrible. They look like a buyanova reject. this are the little thing just don't happen with eteri.

However, the most important thing was a clean skate. Rember its her first outing with new programs, after a nasty public divorce mids of puberty including body changes, covid preperation and so on..
Guys giver her some slack, please

So I said I was going to do some math as to who is in for Nationals or not depending on what happens at the last event.

If everyone who has only skated one event (or the 12 best in the standings at least) we get the following results:

Valieva
Kostornaia
Tuktamysheva
Tsibinova
Guliakova
Tarakanova
Sultanmagomeva
Kostina
Sidrova
Andeeva
Sarnovskaya
Zabora
I dont know if all these skaters will show up but we will see.

I am going to assume that Medvedeva and Sinitsyna gets a bye to nationas just to be safe. I find this rather likely since the comp really wouldnt be the same without them.
Valieva, Kostornaia and Tuktamysheva should be in nationals unless they completely bomb and drop to 10th or 11th place.
Tsibinova, Guliakova and Tarakanova have verry similair scores in their first competition and Tarakanova would really need to beat at least one of them if she wants a spot at nationals preferably both... Tsibinova and Guliakova can safely afford to drop as far as 7th witout any issues. Sultanmagomeva would be in if she goes in 7th and possibly also 8th depending on what else happens and what the scores are.

The rest have basically no chance unless they have the skate of their life and scores in the 185-190 region and battle with Guliakova, Tsibinova and Tarakanova for places 4-6th. This I find verry unlikely.

On a slightly sad note it looks like Konstantinova is out. Her 9th today really hurt her chances. and she will probably end up 17th or 18th in the standings where I expect 16 to qualify.

My predictions for who makes it to natinals is:

Group1: Trusova, Sherbakova, Valieva, Kostornaia, Usasheva, Tuktamysheva
Group2: Medvedeva, Sinitsyna, Kromykh, Frolova, Samodurova, Nugomanova
Group3: Tsibinova, Gulyakova, Talalykina, Sultanmagomeva, Shulskaya, Tarakanova/Molchanova
1st reserve: Tarakanova/Molchanova
2nd reserve: Konstantinova

As i understand it the 1st rating is the placements just like GPs but what is the 1st tiebreaker? That could make a huge difference towards the bottom...
I assumed it was best score but now Im unsure. Is it best score, best placement or total score?

Can someone please explain me why kostantinova doesn't ditch her rippons?? She clearly is not able to land her jumps properly with it since two season.

I'm just sorry that Shae put crossovers on the most interesting part of wayward sisters, when the music go crescendo. That's a waste. The opening choreo could have been longer so there would be the ina bauer before the 1st 2A or the jump itself on that part.
The transition with dance for me wallis isn't smooth but the one with R&J is better.

The movements weren't finished. Forgettable program.

Trusova's choreo was almost non-existent but she landed those quads.

Does Rostelecom clash with the 5th stage of the russian cup? :scratch2:
As far as I could see the 5th stage is sceduled 20th-24th and rostelecom 20th-23rd. This does not seem right since skaters like Tuktamysheva and Kostornaia is expected to skate both right?
Am I missing something here or is the exeptinally bad planning?

Huh? I thought the fifth stage was on December 5-8? Would be really weird otherwise...

I love Aliona, I loved her FS dress (could be better fitted and long sleeves would’ve looked sleeker, but it’s still very pretty), I love the music, I typically love the choreographer, but this program just did absolutely nothing for me :( I understand her struggles but despite landing all of her jumps, her skating just feels... messy. Visible issues on all of her spins and steps, so much two foot skating. It just felt like a jump drill. No interpretation or performance quality at all.No connection to the music or choreo. The music just made me want to go rewatch Zhenya’s 2016 program. Aliona is just too good of a skater to have me feeling this “meh” about her this season. I hope she just needs more time. I really hope she’s not rushing into things or overworking herself because that will not turn out well in the end.

Maiia, sigh. What a rough skate. I’m sorry but her GOE on those extremely wonky jumps was absurd. Her jumps barely got off the ground, her spins were just... not good. Fell in the choreo sequence. The program was poor and her execution of it is not good either. It’s a shame because her SP, in my opinion made great strides in the right direction, and she performed it really well.

Congrats to Sasha! That 4S was beautiful! The 4Lz had so much spring! The 4T fall was scary and she honestly (and unfortunately because it’s a nice one when landed) needs to drop the 3lz3lo. The program is still not good to me and it honestly made me wish I was watching Dasha instead. I just don’t get it. It feels like a GoT rehash for Sasha and that’s... not a compliment. However, in the softer parts of the music, I can definitely see her improvements! I don’t think powerful music works well for Sasha to be honest. Her best interpretation, musicality, lines, carriage is always during the softer parts of music. Good on her for continuing to improve in areas where people thought she never would! She definitely deserved the win here! Anna and Kamila will definitely have to bring everything they have to Rusnats to be able to challenge Sasha.

I was going to post the standings myself but you beat me to it! :D

Yes, the big question is if Medvedeva and Sinitsyna gets a bye or not. But even if they did, they might not compete anyway because they are still injured. Sinitsyna said some time ago she hopes to compete at Stage Five, we'll see if that happens.

I also wonder about Gubanova. We have heard nothing about her. Is she injured as well? Has she not been training? Is there a chance that she gets a bye as well?

But it indeed seems like Konstantinova is on the cusp right now. She and Shulskaya picked the two most stacked Stages to compete in - the competition was fierce!

Here is the complete standings after Stage Four:

1. Trusova 36 points 489.22 score
2. Shcherbakova 36 p 486.31
3. Usacheva 30 p 458.39
4. Frolova 28 p 407.93
5. Khromykh 28 p 405.34
6. Samodurova 24 p 390.24
7. Nugumanova 18 p 369.70
8. Talalaykina 18 p 352.45
9. Valieva 16 p 233.70 - Stage Five
10. Kostornaia 16 p 226.31 - Stage Five

11. Shulskaya 14 p 374.41
12. Molchanova 14 p 322.39
13. Tuktamysheva 14 p 213.26 - Stage Five
14. Konstantinova 12 p 374.62
15. Onishchenko 10 p 304.73
16. Gulyakova 10 p 186.44 - Stage Five
17. Sultanmagemedova 10 p 174.34 - Stage Five
18. Tsibinova 8 p 189.98 - Stage Five
19. Tarakanova 4 p 184.85 - Stage Five

I don't think anyone else has any chance.

Kostornaya on why the triple axel did not jump: “There were two good attempts out of five, this is not enough. We are working for the long term - the World Championship or the Olympics "
