2020-21 Russian Men's figure skating

Gumennik grew so much again!
Last year he had a huge growth spurt, same this year. He looks so tall now. Watching these kids grow, you almost always forget how quickly it happens!

I hope his jumps are doing fine, cause he keeps growing like a damn bamboo tree

It looks like his torso lengthened a bit to catch up with his limbs - maybe that means he's almost finished growing?

what about Samsonov 2 years ago, he was hailed as a saviour
now hes struggling with growth spurt, injury or irrelevancy from lack of consistency ?

A short report from St.Petersburg on men skating there

https://www.sports.ru/profile/5975530/status/2166559/

Mozalev has rock music for SP, did 4Lz(q) but fell. 4T, 3A is still there

Ignatov skated to something with lyrics, had 4Lo, 4T, 3A, same slow spins, lack of stamina in SP as noted last year

Aliev was sick

Someone on Russian forum said Mozalev has Morricone "Man with harmonica" for his FP.

Yes, heard the same from that second Mozalev fan in the whole wide world, but unconfirmed as of yet. Sounds like good music choices for him though. Introspective, but hopefully, will sound ‘younger’?

Inside the closed rentals of St. Petersburg figure skaters
For men, the main event was the return to the ice of Mikhail Kolyada, who in the summer made the transition from Valentina Chebotareva to Alexei Mishin. Kolyada skated the short program decently enough, made a quadruple toe loop in a cascade with a double and a chic triple axel. But the free one turned out to be mediocre. The bronze medalist of the World Championship did not get a quadruple, but he again made a clean triple axel. True, there was no strong technical set in this performance - as long as the skater takes care of himself. In general, the sources call the performance good and, if the scores were published, victorious.

In the short, the best was Makar Ignatov, who showed two quads, including a rittberger, but he took part in a free program. Andrei Mozalev tried a quadruple lutz in the short, not entirely successful, but nevertheless, the attempt is worth noting given that the jump is new for Andrei, and he succeeded in everything else. The world champion among juniors, Lutz, no longer stormed into the free program, who switched to the adult level, but he did not encounter problems with a quadruple toe loop and triple axel.

Pyotr Gumennik's short was unsuccessful - it was not without falls. But in the free program, he pulled himself together and showed his stable level, quadruple salchow and axel three and a half.

And the main sensation of the box office was Evgeny Semenenko, who performed along with adults. The one who shot the program to the music from "Bandit Petersburg". He did two different quads and two triple axels and skated flawlessly. In terms of components, the young ward Mishin is obviously inferior to Kolyada. The top three according to the results could be presented as follows: Kolyada - Mozalev - Semenenko. In total, about 10 adults and 10 juniors took part in the men's skates.

Note that European champion Dmitry Aliev did not participate in the skates due to injury, and the exact timing of his recovery is still unknown.

There are a couple of weird sentences in auto translate. It should read:

Ignatov: “he withdrew from the free” (despite his strong showing in the short).

Mozalev: “didn’t storm the lutz (attempt) in the free, but he didn’t encounter any problems with 4T and 3A”

Semeneko: “Mishin’s young ward is not on par with Kolyada” (though I am pretty sure Mishin would be stocked to hear himself called a young ward)

***

And, I am glad to see Mozalev doing well, and fingers crossed for him “storming” that 4Lz in the free, heh.

Also, all the best wishes to Ignatov.

Young at heart, maybe  Thanks for tidying up the auto-translate!

I love ballet, so I'm really excited to see Kolyada's free. Those photos look great  And this season looks to be shaping up surprisingly well for Semenenko. He really is a solid jumper, now if only he could pick up some of Kolyada's nice posture...

I like Mozalev too! His consistency made him very comfortable to watch last season. Not sure if the 4Lz will affect that, but 'not entirely successful' sounds like he's not far off.

Aww, glad to see more Mozalev appreciation. The reports I saw before the article seem to say it was pretty close, fall with a small under rotation. I am a bit foggy on whether or not they will let SP skaters to travel for test skates on the 12th, but I hope to be able to see that 4Lz. Also, Danielian & Samarin if they will get there.

St Pete skaters did come for the junior test skates, so unless the situation has worsened since then I guess it should be ok? Senior men's field is really heating up this year :)

Matvei's nemesis axel again :bang: 1st in PCS, 10th (or lower) in TES... good luck in the free, kiddo!
Are there videos of the event somewhere? I'm curious to see what Yablokov's SP is this year.

Awesome, thanks!
Uber dramatic music for Ilya as always  It's funny how the boards are now around hip height for him...

ETA: First time seeing Mark Lukin, very surprised to see a Khrustalnyi boy who actually smiles and connects with the audience rather than gazing with pathos into the distance! For some reason he reminds me of Daineko's skaters instead...

Thanks for the video link, looking forward to catching up tonight

Protocol is here (in Russian): https://sportvokrug.ru//r/competition/7239/Протокол.pdf

Top 10 overall (descending): Kovalev, Kondratyuk, Yablokov, Lukin, Sarnovsky, Knyazev, Vetlugin, Bederdinov, Belyavsky, Mukhortov.

I'm a bit confused, Golubev also skated but he's not listed in the results?

PS for those who know, do you latinise я as 'ia' or 'ya'? Also not sure if ий is better written as 'iy', 'ii', 'y' or 'i' :slink:

This is a qualification event to the Russian Cup series for those who represent Moscow. Golubev doesn't represent Moscow. He and Vinokur competed out of competition.

Thanks for the explanation! Oh well, it would have been nice to know how they scored.
