Ok some concerns but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I didn't care for the choreography but Alysa made it work!!! She's very charming but that says more about her than the program. I hope they try someone else next season. She can sell it but she shouldn't have to take on that extra burden as well.

The lack of a 3-3 worries me but the triples she did jump look fine.

I was relieved to see the donut spin but there does seem to be a flexibility issue.

She's definitely got a new body so hopefully she'll settle into it and that's when we'll see what is truly possible.

I'm concerned but mindful that it's a weird season and that she needs time.

I just watched her new program. She is as delightful to watch as ever and her dress is pretty. With the pandemic, I think she should have a domestic coach. My thought go to the new rink in Norwood , Massachusetts. And have Ashley Wagner as a part time coach. It's too close to the Olympic season to not have a rinkside coach.

Alyssa has been training her jumps via zoom. As we saw with Med it doesn't seem like the best method, she is obviously going through puberty. However, I don't think you can say, "it is over," or that she can't do anything. She is just going through an adjustment period, and she needs an in person jump coach. The comments on that video! 😡Adults who bully children are just shameful.

The video was jarring, but I’m glad to see Alysa performing with her usual charm. The 3-2 was definitely planned and I don’t think we’ll ever see a triple-Axel or quad from her but who cares? As long as she performs well, loves to skate, and isn’t in an abusive environment, that’s all I care about. Can’t wait to see how the program evolves and hopefully the jumps will be fixed.

Calling a child a pig is not stating the obvious.
I did not see that but I think we can all agree that calling anyone names is not okay regardless of age - but to especially demean a child is unacceptable.

I was extremely curious to see this video of Alysa and here are my thoughts... but let me preface that I have never been on the Alysa bandwagon. I don't dislike her and see her talent but I was always more interested in other juniors than Alysa:
  • I feel so sorry for any person who has to go through puberty in front of the public eye and I do hope that figure skating fans are kind to her during this time. Even prior to this, I think we can all agree she was going to have a different body type than Valieva.
  • With said puberty, it is going to take time for her to adjust her jumping technique. I think her technique prior was a little "squirrelly" which makes me concerned for the future of her jumps. Obviously too soon to tell on the quad and triple axel but I would not be surprised if we never saw the quad "clean" again.
  • I hate that costume! I hate the gloves! I feel like it really shortens her limbs.
  • I don't think anyone can deny that Alysa is extremely charming on the ice.

Alysa already left social media this year and I have no doubt it is because of the constant online bullying she got since last season. She said social media is no fun anymore IRCC..

I also hope Alysa can have a coach with her soon, who can help her cope with puberty and recover her jumps. I love the choreo of her new program. Alysa is a beautiful performer.

What worries me are the spins. Alysa is an amazing spinner and skaters usually leave out spins that cause pain due to an injury. Hopefully Alysa’s not injured but judging from the lack of a 3-3, donut spin, and such... I think she was either injured or is still injured. Hopefully this is all bogus analysis and she comes out guns blazing in November-December.

Wow. Liu lost everything. Even spins. Goodbye olymic hopes
If you had been following the recent articles on her, you would know she is still working on getting back her 3A and quad. She said she would not be doing them at the Carnival on Ice--why would she?

Wow, the comments underneath that video just break my heart. Let’s just see how she does in ISP and nationals until everyone starts to write her off. And since she’s going the puberty now, let’s also see how the entirety of next year goes. This year has been hard on all skaters, but to be going through puberty as well?! Let’s give everyone a minute to adjust:)

I reported a few more comments on a YouTube video of Alysa's program. I don't see people feel the need to be rude to a child. This happens when people go through puberty. I'm sure she'll bounce back, but I also don't think we can judge what we saw at COI on what we'll see at Nationals in January. Regardless, there is no reason for people to say rude comments like that about any skater, especially a young girl.

Why do people have to be so cruel to kids? Maybe it's about time young skaters are allowed to develop at their own pace and deal with the ups and downs of puberty instead of hyping up 13-year-olds to be the next Olympic champion (see also Gogolev) and bashing them whenever they struggle.

It's a delight to watch bubbly Alysa, she always seems to enjoy herself so much when she's on the ice. Still, I think her packaging might be a problem. These jazzy/kind of roaring twenties programs she keeps doing give off a very juniorish vibe compared to the pieces the Russian girls are using. She definitely needs more mature programs to get a PCS boost internationally.

Alysa herself said it will take a long time for everything to work out. She knows that and she’s prepared to put in the work. The pressure to medal at 2022 was always too much even though she’s more than capable of doing it. If she earns a medal then good for her. If not, then that’s okay too because she’s looking for longevity, not to peak when she’s 15-16 and vanish. I mean, one of her skating heroes was 27 when she earned her Olympic medal.
