I don't always use the first 3 letters, I use whatever catches my fancy in a moment of scoring :p Of course I make sure, that there is not the same combination on skater list, but I advise to put full surnames, just in case ;)

That's why I used the words "probably" and "usually". ;) It's good to always have a get-out clause! :p

As always, the best advice I can give players is just to copy and paste the names straight from the Entry Lists. That way, there is no ambiguity, as we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. (Plus, it eliminates the issues associated with names that were originally in different alphabets being able to be transliterated into Latin characters in different ways).

And can I just take this opportunity to thank you and the other members that have volunteered to score at the last minute. I really appreciate it.

Just a wee hint.

I am currently making out my my predictions, and I found out by chance that the only skater not representing the USA in the Ladies, LIN Shan (CHN), is actually Ashley LIN, who was impressive in the Junior GP's and Senior B's a couple of years ago when she was representing the USA.

In general, her scores were very similar to Starr Andrews'. Although, because of being under embargo due to the country switch, she hasn't had any international competitions for a while.

So, don't let the unfamiliar name catch you out. She is worth looking at.

Firstly, can I just say that I was not expecting to be making predictions at all this season.

Every year when it comes to the Predictions Games, there are two rounds I always dread making predictions on. The first is Canadian Nationals, because the website I use for past results does not include Canadian domestic competitions.

The other is American Nationals. And the reason is that there are so many skaters that I have never heard tell of, never mind seen. This is not a reflection of the skaters themselves. It is a reflection of the sheer size of the pool in America.

When it comes to international slots, it tends to be the same skaters that get called up. So, you get to know these skaters very well. Of course, this is also the case with many other Feds. The difference is when you come to Nationals. With most countries, you generally find that it is the same skaters that are joining the top names every year. And you also get to know them over time. But in America, this is often not the case. From one year to the next, the names you see competing at Nationals can be very different. So, you don’t get to know the supporting cast like you do in other countries.

A lot of people have been describing this year’s Skate America as a mini-Nationals. And that is pretty much true. Consequently, I am having the same problems making predictions as I do with Nationals.

Because of all this, my predictions are largely based on absolute PB’s. (For new partnerships, I took the mean of the two skaters’ absolute PB’s with their former partners).

I did stray from it in one instance. In Pairs. I want Ash and Tim to win! And since their absolute PB (from winning 2019 Nationals) was only 1.21 behind Jessica and Brian’s absolute PB (from being runners up at 2020 Nationals), I went with my heart.

Here are men´s results.

It was nice to see so many familiar names again on the scoring sheet and to welcome some new ones. I hope everybody is doing well.
Surprisingly ;) everybody predicted the winner. Special mention goes to Shakuhachi who was the only person to put Malinin in the top five.

Here are the ladies' results!

The key to a top-top score wasn't picking Mariah-Bradie-Karen to go 1-2-4 (many did, including most of those who won bronze with 50 points), but in having Shan Lin or Audrey Shin in the Top 5. Lots of players lost points by having Amber in a Top 3 position and/or having Starr in the Top 5.

:hb:The gold-medal winners with 60 points are cabres, Gia Sesshoumaru and TeamGubanova.

Silver
with 55 points are: Hyena, itofan, LadyB, purplecat and Shakhuhachi.

Bronze with 50 points are: Alex65, alyssamarie, apgold, Artemisa, cake, dancelion21, Dreamer57, invisiblespiral, elektra blue, Koatterce, ladyjane, lariko, Lunalovesskating, lutz, Moxiejan, Sherlock Marple, SnowWhite, StitchMonkey, TheMightyBidoof, TontoK, vesperalvioletta and YuBluByMe.

Congrats to all medalists!
All results are now in the spreadsheet. If I have made a scoring error, please PM me & I will fix. Thanks to all!

A silver in Ladies and bronze in Men! What a start!!!! :bsplit:

I'm doing Ice Dance tonight, was too tired yesterday :)
Just look for all the perfect scores for gold, lol.
I already know my 70 is good enough only for silver.

Due to the amount of participants who didn't bother to:
a) check the spelling of surnames
b) to write a FULL last name of Alexa and sometimes Ashley
This is the last time I'm scoring in this game. It takes additional time to check the mistakes and correcting them, so they will fit in formula and it show that you don't respect the work the scorers do voluntarily. Thank you to all, who can read rules and follow them. :thank:

Here's the PAIRS results!

GOLD medal goes to: Alex65, TeamGubanova, TontoK with 65 points:cheer:👑
SILVER
medal goes to: lariko and Lunalovesskating with 60 points :yahoo:
BRONZE medal goes to: CrazyKittenLady, GoneWithTheWind, macy, readernick, Roo87 with 55 points! :hap10:
Congrats!

I am so sorry. I guess I didn't help when trying to be re-assuring that time when somebody missed out Tim's surname.

Personally, I don't mind making the odd correction. But when there are a whole pile of mistakes, and they are the same mistakes, it is so frustrating. Especially since (as I say every year) there is a simple way of completely avoiding mistakes - copying and pasting directly from the entry lists.

I don't think the players appreciate just how much small mistakes increases the amount of time it takes to do the scoring.

So, whenever subsequent Predictions Threads are opened, could all players please be more careful over name spellings.

Thank you.

And sorry again that this has not been an enjoyable experience for you, cathlen.
