Philadelphia Summer International is gone. But Single and Pair are added to Lake Placid event and there is a planned new Pair competition in New York

The Challenger Series event without Pair have added a Pair event outside of Challenger Series

Attempt of a comeback for the Cup of Nice

Victor Petrenko got his own Cup

I am not sure why Icelab International Cup and Bergamo on Ice Cup can't be merged into a single thing

Funny, I was just wondering this morning when the calendar PDF would come out. I honestly didn't expect it to be this soon, though! I thought it would be delayed until much later in the summer, to see what restrictions were still in place.

Wow, they're fairly making up for last season. This is the first time I've seen the figure skating section of the PDF extend to 5 pages, rather than the usual 4 pages! 😲

Hang on, I just took a more detailed look. The reason the table is longer is because they now have the ISU and the non-ISU parts of the Challenger events listed seperately. So, we've got:

  • 2 Cranberry Cups / Lake Placid Ice Dance Internationals
  • 2 Lombardia Trophies
  • 2 Autumn Classics
  • 2 Ondrej Nepela Memorials
  • 2 Denis Ten Memorial Challenges
  • 2 Icelab Cups / Bergamo On Ice Cups
  • 2 Ice Challenges
  • 2 Golden Spins
  • 2 Nordics

(OK, so the first and last ones aren't Challengers. But, they are still listed twice).

Of all the idiotic things! They are both part of the same event, so why not list them as such?! And I suppose this means that when the time comes they will have separate Entries / Results Pages too! Which will make it so much more difficult to keep track of what is on when during the event.

Good to see the Tayside Trophy back, although it is disappointing that there will not be any Ice Dance competitions at it.

Thank you for letting us know that the calendar was out, @Andrea82 !  :points:

For the Challengers, I guess it is due to make it clear which events are part of the Challenger Series whose results will count as Season Bests and will give CS World Standing point and which events won't.

I am not sure the difference why they need Icelab International Cup and Bergamo on Ice as two events though.

Edit: I made a double thread. How can I delate one of them?

Makes sense, when you put it like that. Although, I would prefer the simpler option, where they have all competitions count towards PB's, etc.! ;)

I am not sure the difference why they need Icelab International Cup and Bergamo on Ice as two events though.

Maybe because of the different names? But, I don't think they did that in past seasons for the Austrian event where the Junior and Senior competitions were dedicated to different people (Sorry, I can't remember off the top of my head who they were).

Edit: I made a double thread. How can I delate one of them?

I'll report the other thread, and ask that the OP of it be deleted and your second post be moved into this thread.

Don't worry, it is so easy to accidentally double post things. I've done it myself. :p

I thought the U.S. international classic was supposed to be in Norwood, Massachusetts, now it says TBA. I'll be so sad if it's not there.

... But Single and Pair are added to Lake Placid event ...

To be more clear:

- Cranberry Cup International is a new event for Singles and Pairs that will take place at Skating Club of Boston's new facility on Aug 12-15.

- For this season, Lake Placid Ice Dance International also will take place at Skating Club of Boston on Aug 12-15 (same dates as Cranberry Cup International).

FWIW, I expect that in future seasons, Lake Placid Ice Dance International will return home to its normal Lake Placid venue (where renovations are taking place this year).
I expect that Cranberry Cup International will remain at Skating Club of Boston in Norwood, which starting this year will be the venue for the concurrent Cranberry Open club competition.

ETA (on Jun 13):
Reinforcing my belief that LPIDI is only temporarily in Boston/Norwood for 2021 is this excerpt from the event announcement for 2021 Cranberry Cup International:
The inaugural Cranberry Cup International for Singles and Pairs will be held be held August 11-16, 2021 at The Skating Club of Boston facility in Norwood, Massachusetts, in conjunction with the 40th Cranberry Open Figure Skating Competition. This year will also include a special opportunity to include the Lake Placid Ice Dance International.

ETA (on Jun 16):
Excerpt from the event announcement for Lake Placid Ice Dance International:
After over 80 years of summer ice dance competition at all levels in Lake Placid, we are pleased to announce the fifth Lake Placid Ice Dance International to be held August 11- 16, 2021. Due to construction in Lake Placid, this year’s event will be held at the Skating Club of Boston facility in Norwood, MA.
Excerpt from official site for Lake Placid Ice Dance International:
Due to construction at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, this year's event will be held in Norwood, Mass. at The Skating Club of Boston. Lake Placid looks forward to hosting the 2022 Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships and International.

(For those who were accustomed to Cranberry Open being held on Cape Cod -- co-hosted by Yarmouth Skating Club and Skating Club of Boston -- my understanding is that the Yarmouth club is/was in the process of being merged into SCOB.)

ETA (on Jun 10):
FWIW, the document at the link below indicates that Yarmouth Ice Club had plans in the past season to host "2020 Cranberry Open and 2020 Cranberry Cup." (The document refers to "Cranberry Cup" without the word "International.")

Re location of U.S. International Classic, Sep 15-18:

It's surprising that it is listed as TBA, USA???

In April 2021, U.S. Figure Skating had announced that U.S. International Classic would take place at Skating Club of Boston on these dates in September. (Instead of in Salt Lake City, which had hosted U.S. Classic since its inception.)

Philadelphia Summer International is gone. ... there is a planned new Pair competition in New York

Wow, it is exciting that Pairs will have a new international named after John Nicks. :)
(Taking place Sep 10-11 alongside the Middle Atlantics club competition at Chelsea Piers in New York City.
In 2019, two international pairs [along with U.S. pairs such as the Knierims] competed at Mid-Atlantics, so it bodes well as a good home for the new John Nicks Pairs Challenge.)

ETA:
U.S. Classic has had Pairs in past years, but it will not in 2021.
I imagine that the new Nicks Pairs Challenge is the reason.

Very sorry that Philadelphia Summer International is not happening. :(

The two things that jumped out at me are the same things ice coverage mentions here—first, no Philly International, and second, the US Classic which had already been announced for Skating Club of Boston—on the East Coast for the first time in many years—now is listed as location TBA.

Let‘s hope that comp stays in Boston. You know, there really are people on the East Coast who enjoy watching international skaters compete live and would be delighted to attend an event within driving distance. Maybe some day we will manage to convince the powers that be of this!

Only speculation, but perhaps the addition of the new Cranberry Cup International -- at Skating Club of Boston in Aug -- could be a reason that the location of U.S. Classic in Sep has become TBA??

With not only Cranberry Cup International but also 2021 Lake Placid International being held at SCOB, maybe U.S. Figure Skating is reconsidering whether or not SCOB also should host U.S. Classic?

Although SCOB's new facility by all accounts is a wonderful venue, it would be lopsided for SCOB to host three out of the four non-GP U.S.-based internationals in 2021.

Plus with the John Nicks Pairs Challenge in NYC, it would be lopsided for the East Coast to have all four non-GP U.S.-based internationals in 2021.

... You know, there really are people on the East Coast who enjoy watching international skaters compete live and would be delighted to attend an event within driving distance. Maybe some day we will manage to convince the powers that be of this!

Seems to me (a resident of the East Coast) that the powers-that-be already are well aware that there are people on the East Coast who enjoy watching international skaters compete live and would be delighted to attend an event within driving distance. :)

East Coast internationals going back to 2015:

2016 Worlds in Boston, first and foremost

2017 Skate America in Lake Placid
2019 JGP Lake Placid
Lake Placid Ice Dance International every year since 2015 (except 2020, because of the pandemic)

Philadelphia Summer International in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019

2021 Cranberry Cup International in Boston/Norwood

2021 John Nicks Pairs Challenge in NYC

IMO, the list above adds up to a reasonable chunk of the totality of recent+upcoming U.S.-hosted internationals.

For comparison, what did/will not take place on the East Coast:

2019 Four Continents in Anaheim

Skate America in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 + 2021

U.S. Classic every year thru 2019 -- with 2021 TBA at this point

2015 JGP Colorado Springs

(Sorry if I have forgotten something from these years.)

ETA:
Also for comparison, the most recent international in the Midwest was 2016 Skate America in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Do we know which skaters have signed up for these events? I'm trying to keep track of Gracie this summer as I think these events will be very telling on where she is with her training.

If I'm in town, I will try to go to the John Nicks pair event at Chelsea Piers. (I'm usually in Canada for TIFF that weekend but with the border situation still not resolved, I doubt I'll be going north of the border.)

I do hope they keep US Classic in Norwood as it would be fun to go to that as well by train!

Nebelhorn doesn't list pairs or ice dance. Have all the spots already assigned and so they don't need it?

Nebelhorn will have senior competition in all four disciplines -- per the ISU document at the link in the OP.
(Also true for Asian Open Trophy, BTW.)

My hunch is there must have been some kind of inadvertent formatting glitch when the ISU chart was copied/pasted into the OP.
Something must have been weird with the ISU data for those two events. Probably no coincidence that they both are events with special significance for OWG -- qualifier and test event, respectively.

Nebelhorn doesn't list pairs or ice dance. Have all the spots already assigned and so they don't need it?
That must be a mistake. Nebelhorn should have all the disciplines. With regard to the Qualifying for the Olympics: there are 3 pairs spots and 4 ID spots available. Those numbers could increase if a country gives a spot back, but I am not expecting that to happen this year.

Yes, the "X" moved into the Junior and Novice Men cells. In pasting the table, the "OWG Qualification" and "OWG Test Event" split into a different lines moving the X around in wrong columns.
I corrected them now.

Do we know which skaters have signed up for these events? I'm trying to keep track of Gracie this summer as I think these events will be very telling on where she is with her training.
I would like to see her go somewhere. Summer comps are NOT “on brand” for my Gracie.
