I think finances may have been a huge factor in PJs decision. During a recent TV interview he spoke about the struggle to finance his skating due to a complete lack of funding. I think he said the sport was 90% struggle, which is so sad when something that he so obviously loves and is so talented at is made so hard. I also remember a few years ago reading or watching something which reported the huge financial burden that was placed on his family. It stuck with me because it was mentioned that they sometimes struggled to eat properly and often resorted to beans on toast.
Perhaps when he talked about an enormous weight been lifted from his shoulders he was referring to the extra pressure that an athlete must put upon themselves when they know the sacrifices that those around them make.

It is so sad that U.K. sport cannot help athletes such as PJ and if they keep to their current funding strategy it will be no different after the upcoming Olympics.

He also talked about now having a normal life; well I hope that will include building lots of new dreams and memories that he hopefully now will be able to afford.

I am also sure that he will pass on his enthusiasm, character, positivity and love of the sport to all of his pupils. It will be great for the sport to see lots of little PJs coming through the ranks.
It is sad that money becomes such a determining factor. Gracie Gold is still skating and still has sponsors and some good financial support from her family. I prefer hearing skaters having choices like Gracie. But you have to wonder ie Keegan Messing has a family to support now and he does not get endorsements like Nathan or the Russian ladies.

I don’t think that all Russian ladies get endorsements. The top ones, who got to the national team (usually top six at the nationals) will get the funding, but someone lower in the ranks, like Guliakova, Samodurova or Konstantinova, they may get coaching free but I doubt they get much more than that.

Nicole Rajičová, women singles from Slovakia, has retired. She announced her decision to retire to the federation on 13 December 2021, sadly not a single mention on the federation social media or in the press which is kinda sad considering she is six time national champion and the most successful figure skater we've had in a while.

Thanks for info, I was wondering if she retired. Had some brilliant moments in her career :)

I am curious about Gracie Gold, Nam Nguyen, the top two Spanish dance teams, Liza T, Gabby Daleman, Yuzuru, Nathan, Jason, Tarasova and Morozov, Sui and Han, Brendan Kerry, Satoko M, PC, Porier Gilles, Hubbell Donahue, Chock and Bates, the Danadians, S and K - who will retire if any after this season.

Hubbell and Donahue have announced their retirement. She has a wedding date set - June I think?

Some of the others have talked about retirement but walked it back.
