I'd imagine you started the list just thinking about what World Champions didn't win Gold at the Olympics and then you could quickly figure out who didn't even go to the Olympics just with that knowledge. If you find that link, please share!!!
Oh, no. Someone mentioned something about Liza and the Olympics, so I did some research. And by some I mean an hour when I should have been doing homework. I'll get that link to you.

Oh my gosh, I was JUST thinking that same thing!! If Anna won OGM, I don't think she would or should go back to Worlds. She's won it all now. She's not a dominant gold medalist. Kind of like Lipinski. She thanked everyone for the memories after she got her Nationals, World, and Olympic titles and quickly ran off before her luck ran out.

Shcherbakova is not like Lipinski - she's not some kind of one-hit wonder in 3 seasons of international competitions she's placed below silver one time which was at the JGPF and in maybe the most difficult field for figure skating she's managed to win 3 consecutive senior National gold medals including this past year where she wasn't even doing run throughs due to illness prior to competition. I don't think you win that competition 3 consecutive years and it be 'luck'.

That's not very good evaluation of Anna's success. She's not three time national champion because of luck. Yes, the competition is hard currently in Russia and the top ladies are very close to each other, but Anna didn't win her national titles and worlds due to some random circumstances.

She's in the national team in the category 11-17 (page 27), so she'll possibly get at least one spot, but it's not completely sure. First in the line are Akatieva, Petrosian, Samodelkina, Frolova, Muravyova and Berestovskaia and I bet the rest will get their spots according to the actual results during the JGP stages. Maybe the starting positions can be also corrected a little according to the test skates.

As for the Axel, yes, both Darias have superb 2A, and while it can't always be used as a prediction for acquiring a 3A, it surely is a good sign.
Frolova is so unfortunately sandwiched between seniors and juniors… she can’t go senior, I assume, since there won’t be senior GPs for her. At the same time, she can’t beat some younger girls, who have better potential and already have quads and rusfed will pick them over her for junior worlds, perhaps jgp spots too.

Right now, she’s supposed to get JGP spots because she was 6th at Junior Nats. But I’d be surprised if Zhilina doesn’t get any and Frolova does, since she has way more potential than Frolova. I mean, it would be pretty stupid for Rusfed to not get Zhilina on JGP and let Frolova go. Despite all inconsistency, Zhilina is still one of the most talented athletes of that generation. Frolova is lovely to watch, but if I had to guess who could be a next world champion, her or Zhilina, I‘d say Zhilina.

Well, and my mind may be misremembering, but Sasha would have won the first title had she not muffed one jump, and even Eteri looked shocked when she saw that Anna won. And Alyona would have won the second title had she not fallen on the SW sequence in the short. It really was that close and luck did come into play those times IMO. This year's Nationals, Anna was on her own level, but there was Covid, Trusova had an injury and could only do 2 ultra-C at the time, Alyona wasn't having the best times of her life over with the Angels, etc.

I said that because Anna really reminds me of me. I'm not the smartest/most talented BY FAR. But I maximized everything I had, and worked harder than anyone else, and had nerves of steel so I'd never lose ground on a competitor out of nervousness in competition. And I won many things, many awards, top honors over people that were much better/smarter than me. I'd be a liar if I didn't attribute much of my success to luck. Sure I made myself in the running and positioned myself to be competitive just in case someone else messed up and I was at the right place at the right time. Sometimes I won, sometimes I came close. But I almost always gave peak performance in whatever I did, and let the rest of it sort it out. It wasn't a diss on Anna. Hardly, she's one of my favorites. My eyes/brain favors Alyona, My heart favors Anna, and My gut favors Trusova. Valieva combines ALL of it for me, well except for heart, she could give herself a bit more in her performances, but she's definitely improved on that since Nationals.

You could say the same about Tara. She was the queen of good luck. In 1995Jr.Nats she decidedly lost to even Sydne Vogel, and her coach was saying she's going into Seniors because the third world spot would be "open". There was only Kwan and Bobek who were "sure bets" for two of the three spots, so Tara believed she could be third and be at Sr. Worlds the next year after not even winning JrNats. Well, Bobek Bobek'd herself, and sure enough Tara was at Worlds the next year. That was pure good luck. Even after Bobek pulled out, she was only one vote from being named to the World team over Tara. It was THAT close. Then 1997, Kwan was in another dimension than the rest of the world until...... that sad meltdown at Nationals. Kwan did so poorly that the judges really HAD to give the title to Tara because she was right there ready to give her 100% best, which she absolutely needed to win that year. Then the next year, Tara was 100% at Olys while Kwan gave her just that teeny tiny opening Tara needed to win the Gold. Of course she was probably the hardest worker, and had nerves of steel and knew she could always rely on herself to give her maximum on that day. Tara's career still baffles me. It's no wonder she worships/prays to St. Theresa. Someone upstairs was on her side, for sure. lol.

I guess for Zhilina to get a JGP spot she will have to achieve some decent result during the domestic competitions at the start of the season, similarly to how Aliona Kostornaia got hers during the 2017/18 season.

I think she will. This whole past season was a throwaway. Wasn't it also the first season Mama Zhilina took hotd of ALL the reins? Hopefully their team learned their lesson and will have a coaching situation change this season. She's just way too talented to not be on the JGP. I'm assuming that's how she'll get her assignments, like Kostornaya her first junior season.

You could advocate this at any sporting event, even those of yours you described. If XY did not do this, AB wouldn't win that etc. Once it can be called luck, butdefinitely not three times. Also, always remember that "fortune favors the bold and prepared". The same could have happened the other way, and what we would have said then, "if Anna wouldn't have fallen on this or that jump..." Which actually can be said about 2020 Europeans, where Anna could have won, if... And that's it. If we focus on the trio, they really are very close and small differences can decide, but that even more testifies in Anna's favour, because it was her who was able to put all the variables together in the decisive moments ("maximize", as you call it) more often than her current closest competitors, which is not only "luck", it's the ability.

I really don't think it is the best when a parent is a coach, esp. in a situation where it can cause the trouble "who shall have the final word about the important things", just like it happened to Nika at the Cup finals, where her mother said one thing, the other coach different one and in the end Nika completely messed her SP. That's top of the iceberg, so while I hope such blatant example of colluding instructions won't happen again, it can be still present less obviously in the structure of her current school.

Remember what Eteri herself told once, that she started to give Diana some instructions and her daughter stopped her by pointing out "Mum, I have my own coach".

For those who are saying Anna won by luck: They say this I’m cubing a lot, “a lucky scramble isn’t a crime”. It’s not a crime to get an easy scramble, but you still need to be able to solve the Rubick’s Cube. And solve it fast. Only the best are going to be able to do it in 3 or 4 seconds, regardless of the scramble.

And while others made mistakes, Anna held her ground and won. She didn’t make those mistakes, while others did. She won fair and square.

Video from Novogorsk

I just posted that above. (Also it’s so quick and it’s kind of hard to see the entry, but is that and clean 3A from Aliona in the beginning of the video?!)

Also where is Anna!? I heard rumors that she broke her toe, but considering the sources, I wrote it off as gossip and didn’t say anything, but it looks like it could unfortunately be true.

Was about to post the very same.

Quads by Sasha and Kamila. Good to see!
