Likely Maiia, since she has only one spot. It's just weird Sinisina got two ahead of Maiia, who is on the main team and Ksenia isn't even Reserve. Or is Ksenia now considered that last Reserved spot? Guess Med saw the writing on the wall and passed, or was passed.
GP spots are based on world standings and seasons best. Most skaters didn't get any points last year, and Ksenia had better JGP results than Maiia in 2019/2020. Much better international results than Nugumanova, too.

Wow, Aliona‘s path to the final is brutal... Skate Canada‘s field seems pretty ridiculous overall. Why would you put the three favorites of the three biggest skating countries together at one event? Rika, Kamila and Alysa + Aliona and Liza? Compared to that Rostelecom is positively empty. Just strange.
Yes, since Anna, Liza and Sasha were all seeded, Aliona‘s options were pretty limited.
But also… let’s not forget it’s Kamila‘s first international senior competition, and there will be a lot of pressure for her to deal with too, same as for others.

Still doesn‘t explain why they put both Rika AND Alysa at the same event when either of those two could have gotten Rostelecom for example. Or why Cup of China is such an empty field, comparatively. It‘s just an observation I‘ve made over the past few years that there‘s always one or two GPs that are disproportionately more stacked than the others and it makes no sense to me. I want the best skaters in the finals and having a field like at Skate Canada only works against that, IMO.

I’d assume Russia doesn’t want Rika and Alysa on their GP.
Canada probably doesn’t mind it, their ladies field is completely depleted. I don’t understand why Alysa isn’t invited to SkAm, I would think US would think an easier passage through GP stages for their main Olympic hope.
CoC doesn’t seem to care whom to invite, but probably it’s because of being on NHK, neither Alysa nor Rika I assume want back-to-back events.

I don't know why they favored Sinitsyna so much, but I'm not complaining :party2:

I am beyond happy, because I wanted her to get even ONE spot!!! But two?!?! Ahead of Maiia?? Happy day for me!! (Oh, I'm also a fan of Maiia, and she'll get the TBD at Rostelecom, so she'll get to prove herself).

It looks like my dreams came true. Val, 3A, Tuk, Daria, Alyona, Maiia, and Ksenia all get two spots!!!! Best decisions, and what I've wanted all along. I'm okay with Samodurova wasting a spot. She did win Euros 3 seasons ago.... lol

Excuse me? Sofia is not "wasting" a spot. I for one enjoy her performances tremendously, always so creative and true to herself. Go Sofia! :hap10:
I'd have preferred Nugumanova getting a GP. She and Sofia are about on par. It would have been nice to see her finally compete internationally. I feel like I'm just seeing the same old thing year after year with Sofia and she's not improving but getting worse. Give it to someone else, IMO. But it's nice that you're a fan.

Now my comments.
1. Maiia only one entry :( (still hoping she will get the second one at Rostelecom).
2. As expected, Anna, Sasha and Liza won't meet each other as worlds medalists.
3. Daria will face a challenge. Apart from Sasha she will have to face Kaori, Bradie and You Young at SA, but I hope she can still place at the podium. At NHK she will again accompany Sasha and will meet Rika, Kaori, Alysa Liu and You Young again. This will be the hard one.
4. Alena Kostornaia. I won't talk about her competitors that much, because in her case it will depend on her form. I just can wish her to return back to what made her famous.
5. Sasha. Her competitors are mentioned in Dasha's paragraph, if she can do what she's capable of without (many) mistakes, I think she should win both her entries.
6. Kseniia - surprised by her two spots.
7. Anna and Kamila. I'm not making any comments, do not want to jinx anything (but lucky 7) :)

As for Nugu not receiving a spot. I understand she didn't compete internationally for a long time. But viewed through this optics, Vanessa/Eric did not compete together yet at all, so according to the rules that start from the scratch and yet they received two spots. I'm not against it, but then I would expect a spot for Nugu as well.

Different Feds and very different competitive environment

As excited as I am that the GP assignments came out, it’s just making think about how brutal this will be. There are so many girls to root for, but only 3 Olympic spots. Russian Nationals will probably be one of the most epic competitions in history, and yet I’m absolutely terrified for it, because I know that it will be heartbreaking.

But first, we need to get past Test Skates, then the GP series and then the GPF…

I’m just glad I’m not on the selection committee.

It’s the fed that invites the skaters…Canada has no dog in the race for ladies…they just want maximum drama for their event.

Returning skater clause.

It’s both. The feds don’t get all the choices otherwise you’d have a mess of a bunch of feds wanting the same skaters and their are certain rules that need to be abided by (like skater separation and stuff)

Finally!!! The GP assignments are here:yahoo:

It would be interesting to know how they managed this. I suspect that they completely deleted the last season and merged the few Challengers and Worlds with 2020 Season Best List. That would explain why Sinitsyna got 2 spots, she was ranked 11th in 2020. It would also explain way Sofia got one spot, her European 2019 win still counts on the WS list as last season "doesn't exist". So the RusFed had to give Sofia one spot.

Random thoughts:

- I think RusFed must have had some tough negotiations as they gave away one spot at NHK. That's the only explanation I can find. Maybe RusFed needed to fight for Maiia getting a spot?
- I expected Medvedeva to get two spots and Sinitsyna none. I'm happy it's the other way around!
- Skate Canada looks REALLY tough!
- Skate America looks tough as well!
- NHK looks also tough although it is missing a Russian girl
- Interesting that Tursynbaeva got one spot

Biggest feeling though is that I am SOOO happy for Ksenia!!

I'm so happy I just want to scream:yahoo:...for a long time...like this:
