I hope people will find it in themselves to be kind to her in regards to the words they write about her pictures from her Dubai vacation.
Your comment piqued my curiosity, I went and checked out her instagram. A bit disingenuous of her to say she doesn't understand why people reacted more to those, "there is nothing in these videos and photos. These are just photos from vacations".
More generally, it's a very specific aesthetic she's chosen for her instagram... Quite the departure from the way she looks on the ice.

Not necessarily - she hasn't competed internationally since the 2018-2019 season so I don't think she would have been able to go to Worlds which would have meant really no competitions last year, based on this interview she intended to compete in the Cup events but due to Covid exposures she had to quarantine that prevented her. So maybe she held off on switching countries so she maybe had some competition experience last year, but ended up not working out. I don't think she really 'lost' a year last year given the Covid situation, had it been a normal season then I would agree she lost a year of competition waiting to switch.
Thanks for that info and interview. I remember reading that interview and the comments. People were not happy Nastya was for raising the age limit for girls.

Yes Nastya was a victim of covid exposure and I gather her mother had Coronavirus.
It will be interesting to see if all figure skaters and all athletes for that matter are vaccinated before the Winter Olympics in February.

I'm also very happy Maria has this golden Italy opportunity and I hope her new coach who is Nastyas old coach gives Talakina Romeo and Juliet for her free skate this season.

Looking to see what next for Evgenia Medvedeva. With the recent interview,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAtSIB9k2HQ, I feel like that she is not happy with the whole situation of her comeback to Eteri. And with this recent interview, I feel really sorry for her that she look like that she was force to obey to Eteri and bring back that Anna Karenine program for all show program of Eteri. Because ... it look like that Evgenia in the recent interview that she regret to have ditch her first olympic free program who was more difficult technically to Anna Karenine a technical program with less base value. So, I feel sorry that Eteri force her to bring back that program Anna Karenine for show program, because Evgenia doesn't seem to have accept the whole situation in favor of Alina Zagitova free program with higher base value.

It must have be psychologically hard for her to reskate Anna Karenine after all the bad memorie come with that program ...

I see that her desire to comeback is sincere but Eteri seem to force her to not show off in competitive skating again ...

What next for Evgenia ?

I'm certainly sure that if she comeback to Orser in Canada, that her mind and soul would be in her better place, and that her true personnality on the ice will shine again.

I hope that we will have some new about Evgenia this season positive and that she find a way to comeback to competive skating without Eteri in her feet :)

I think that we all have to learn to be okay with Evgenia not skating competively ever again.
I pretty sure that she very much understands that she is simply not competitive anymore.
Eteri has not much to do with that.

I don't think that she will comeback to Orser either, she has a lot of opportunities in Russia now. It was discussed already 2 pages back or so.

I think Evgenia will decide if she wants to skate competitively. She trains with the top Russian ladies, so she knows what she needs to do. I personally hope she competes again.

The interviewer doesn't understands figure skating at all. She kept asking Zhenya if she knew that Alina would win gold if they both skated clean because Alina has a higher BV. It completely neglects the PCS aspect and she kept repeating it so it was weird.

Also, from Evgenia's side it doesn't look like she likes talking about Eteri.

I called it last year in her fan fast the moment she started doing photo shoots and commercials.

Not that I blame her: she can make money and keep herself in the spotlight without putting her body through the training you need to compete with the other top Russians.

Medvedeva's begun her studies in the Moscow States University.
Some time ago, Trusova mentioned she wants to go to the University of the Physical Culture- the only high profile university permitting students to participate in competitions.
I'm in doubt Evgenia will push for competitive skating anymore.

Honestly Zhenya and Alina have no need of competition. Both are champions and have long careers ahead of them in entertainment, advertising or whatever.

She‘s always done photoshoots and commercials, even while she was training competitively. (one of her most famous Nike shoots happened in the lead-up to Worlds 2019) Trusova, Valieva, Shcherbakova and co. also manage to include commercial opportunities in their free time.

Zhenya’s career effectively ended when she reinjured her back in the summer before the 20-21 season, then couldn't return to Orser and had to switch to Eteri, had some sort of surgery and later got severe COVID, too. Maybe she could have kept going if one of those factors hadn't been in the equation but as it was, it became nearly impossible. In that very last interview she mentioned that since she had 48% lung damage, she lost nearly all of her weight (watch her RusNats 2021 performance and her newer ones for reference/comparison) and effectively had to start from scratch. With the Russian ladies already being competitive as it is and the Tutberidze team having about 6 younger contenders for the Olympic team, the time a 21 year old returning after severe injury/illness would need, is simply not there. I do believe that, had the whole pandemic not happened, she‘d have stayed with Orser and tried to make the Olympic team.

And why not, really? She‘s not competitive within Russia anymore, and so what? Tuktamysheva kept her career going for several seasons without coming close to making a Worlds team.

No, the issue for Evgenia (and she's stated this clearly multiple times) isn't a lack of motivation or desire to continue but simply her health. If her body would allow it, she‘d be in Moscow preparing for the season. But since that’s not the way it is right now and she's not sure it ever will be again, she‘s looking into other options. Which is smart because, as we can see, she can have a pretty good, rather successful (and probably way less stressful) life doing shows, TV appearances, going to university etc.

Do I think she‘ll come back. Honestly, no. As much as it hurts to say this, it‘s been obvious for a while. With the way skating‘s looking right now in Russia and the coaching team she‘s under, it‘s just not probable. But I do wish we‘d get to see those final programs, Alegria & Masquerade, one last time in a somewhat competitive format (even with watered down content).

That was the first time I’ve watched Zhilina and actually enjoyed it. I actually loved her today, super cute and spunky, jumps were on and the facials were finally there (even if they were probably choreographed she made them work). I know some people weren’t a fan of the music after test skates but I really like it and think it works for her. Bravo Nika for making such big improvements!

Anna Tsareva must not have enough political pull as a coach, or her student, who was brilliant today, would've scored higher. Poor girl just didn't understand why her score wasn't in the 70s, based on her reaction.

Zakharova? Have to disagree here, I guess. I never found anything too special about her skating and her jumps often seem very heavy to me. Muravieva, Zhilina and Petrosyan, who she skated against today, all stand out more in some way or another imo. So a difference between them is justifiable.

Some thoughts on the Russian ladies today:

Muravieva‘s skating was never really my cup of tea since she seemed too frantic for me. However, she‘s improved quite a bit on that since last year and I enjoy watching her more and more. Beautiful expressiveness. I hope she somehow manages to win Silver tomorrow because I‘ll be very sad to see her miss out on a second event and a chance to go to the JGPF… too much potential there.

Zhilina‘s as impressive a jumper as ever and she‘s improved on her presentation since test skates. Good to see her so confident as well, what a difference from last year! Great job overall, hope it continues in the FS. Still, her program is one that heavily relies on her being in character at all times (the horrendous music cuts and cheesy voice overs don‘t help) and for that, it‘s way too tentative. Thus, I felt her PCS were overscored compared to Muravieva and Petrosyan, both of which are naturally charismatic and energetic performers and also quite a bit more musical.

Adelia, my favorite Russian junior last year, has had a rough start to the season (the atrocious new FP doesn’t help, I‘m still desperately hoping she goes back to the old one tomorrow). Test skates was far below her abilities and Ted said she had a terrible practice here, too. So, I was pretty relieved when she managed to land all the jumps confidently today. The spins and step sequence levels suffered a bit as a result, however, and that‘s why she‘s only third. I do feel like her PCS should have been higher than Zhilina‘s, though. With a clean FS, she can move up but I‘m not too worried since she already has two JGPs scheduled and she‘s an Eteri skater as well. I doubt they‘ll take it away from her, unless she severely bombs the FS.

Cannot say much about Zakharova. She was solid, as she always seems to be, but there‘s nothing outstanding for me. Did she get two JGPs right of the bat? If so, I wonder why since I personally don‘t see as much inherent potential as in, say, Zhilina with her quads and 3A. Still, she can very well move up with the FS and I‘ll have to eat my words. Watch her win Gold now.

Anyway, I really enjoyed watching the girls today. I‘d look up which of them will perform in Linz but I don‘t want to get too excited since I‘m pretty sure the event will be without spectators. :(

JGP skates continued.

Zakharova:

Petrosian:

Adelia’s spins in slo-mo look like everyone else’s spins at normal speed 😆 she’s such a fast spinner! And generally a very fast skater!

glad everyone did well! Nika and Adelia are such tiny girls, they’re so cute! They look a lot younger than their ages.
Don’t agree with all the scores, but only slightly. Don’t think it changes anything in the grand scheme of things.
The free will be quite special, since 3 will probably attempt 1 quad each (so all will be close in BV) and then there’s Nika 🙂

I think Ted said Nika will be attempting four quads.
