What does this even mean? No one is happy about bad practices and plenty of people want Anna to do well. We're just starved for information after the pre-olympic offseason.

I think alexocfp is alluding to the 'jump the guns' group that has a tendency to look at a great practice/showing and declaring a skater the champion, or on the other side a bad practice/showing and declaring a skater done.

And unfortunately there are some people, see TSL for 1, that tend to behave with glee when a skater, especially an Eteri skater that's post-puberty, shows anything less than perfection...Even when talking about senior B's that are basically warmups or pre-season, for the GP series and the competitions beyond

Does anyone know what's up with Anna's neck? Or more likely, does anyone know what kind of injury could require her to wear that on her neck?

I can't figure out if it's tape or a brace or a bandage or what but it seems to be holding her head up somehow (?) It's visible here.

Her dress is beautiful imo but I keep worrying about her neck. I didn't even know neck injuries were a thing outside of falling off a roof and breaking your neck. How do you even hurt your neck? You can't exactly fall on your neck?

There are some things that can appear out of nowhere that cause neck muscle strain/spasm.
I had that, just out of nowhere, I couldn’t really move my neck. Then it goes away by itself after a few days.

It looks like either sport tape or a pain relief patch.

She does plenty of moves in her choreography where I could see someone straining a neck muscle. I've slept wrong and had my neck be stiff or sore. Perhaps this explains why she was wearing the scarf during practice yesterday

Kamilla Nelyubova switches to "Angels of Plushenko".

Who are those 3?

Maybe plushy just wanted somebody named Kamila? Good luck to her but why change if she was skating well this season in her current situation?

As for Anna's neck injury I can speak from experience they can come from anywhere even sleeping on the wrong kind of hotel room pillow. I hope it passes fast and she gets her quads back by nationals. She will need them and I'm not talking about practice quads.

Also, neck problems are not uncommon for dancers. Anjelika Krylova (World champ ice dancer with Ovsiannikov in the 90s) had to retire due to neck injury/problems. This is not good, especially for someone who needs to be doing quads. I can't imagine how much that would distract you when attempting a quad... poor Anushka.

@Amei covered what I meant fantastically.

She did it again today. She always finds a way to fight through ailments. What can you say?

I know it’s a different competition but Maia and Anna really showed how overscored Liza is. Take away the 3A point difference, I don’t think anyone is convinced that Anna and Maia are 5 points behind Liza in all other elements. I think she was pretty lucky to get that 82. Also 3 points behind the WR from a pretty flawless and exceptional SP from Aliona. Don’t know how she even ended up in the 80’s at all, except for judges wanting some drama, tbh.

Esp. when Anna received the very same PCS as Liza did in the SP, 35.64 :scratch2: Liza was technically good in Finland, but the rest was the same Liza she always was, her PCS boost was truly unprecendented. Anna didn't have a clean combo, I would agree on that with the tech panel, and if other competitions were judged by the same standard that was applied in Budapest it would be fine, but sadly they are not. Anna and Maiia, if scored by Finlandia standards, would have received like +5 points more.

I guess the GP events will have more balanced scoring between particular stages, so then we will see how much this is just a fluke in between two particular competitions from which one was very generously overscored and the other was just judged strict but still relatively fair.

There was some really weird judging at Finlandia tbh. Like the Swiss judge in the SP giving Liza, Aliona, Kamila, Anastasia and Eva 78 to 82.

I think last week and this week are perfect illustrations as to why you can't compare scores between competitions; Finlandia was very generous to the top skaters, Budapest not so much.

Judge 6.

Also shouldn’t it be a lutz+combo for putting her foot down??
Looks like the combo still counts. The Technical Handbook says:
In case of a touch down with the free foot without weight transfer and up to 2 three turns or no turns between the jumps in a combination, the element remains a jump combination (however Judges will reduce the GOE because of error). In case of more than 1 full revolution on the ice the call will be the jumps performed prior to this revolution + all the next jumps with an * combo in Short Program and sequence in Free Skating
