Is the scoring this year drastically different than last year's in terms of technical requirements? I noticed Green/Parsons score from today is roughly equal to Hawayek/Baker's worlds score from last season. There may be some real competition for that third spot.

Avonley Nguyen and Grigory Smirnov are officially a new ice dance team competing for the US.

I noticed that. There is no score, so they may have skated it in front of the officials, but not actually competed it. It's nice to see Avonley and Grigory both skating again, and maybe to see them competing at some time soon.

It's really hard to compare across competitions and during different points in the different season, but for some reference:

Piper and Paul scored about 5.5 points less at Autumn Classic than they did in winning a medal in the WC. And that's to be expected this early in the new season - nothing wrong with their score. But I'm using it as a measuring stick in this case.

For Green and Parsons to equal the score of a highly-ranked USA WC team this early in the season is a very good result. It is certainly better than I would have supposed it would be.

They look like a team on the rise... a rapid rise.

I like H/B, but it was apparent to me last season that the judges weren't as in love with their skating as I am. I'd say that the race for the National bronze medal will be spirited, and it's not out of the question that we'll see some shakeups in placement in the 3-5 spots. Time will tell.

H/D were really underscored at US Classic. I saw their SP protocols and I think it was Judge #5 (Turkish lady) that criminally underscored them way below than what other judges gave them on SS. From what I saw, they both did great for this being their first competition. Someone should investigate and look deep into what kind of beef judge Ece Esen has with Madison Hubbell & Zach. It's srsly disrespectful to give them 7s when everyone else gave them 9s on their skating skills.

That judge definitely got the memo since her score in the FP is now at at par with the other judges. She definitely needs to be investigated again.

Aside from the scoring from that judge in the SP, I dont think they were underscored PCS wise. PCS of 37.26 and 56.50 is what top teams been getting. The only way to get even higher PCS if they get awarded perfect 10 or 9.75 across the board.

What they need to do is hit their elements which usually separates the top teams during tight competition.

Ultimately they crushed all the teams in GOEs but here newbies Davis/Smolkin tied/beat them in hitting their base elements while Americans Pate/Bye and Macnamaca/Spiridonov almost beat them just by a hair in the FP.

score of 207 is a very good but there is room for improvement and it is super early in the season

haven't followed fs in so long since the last olys, but Flores/Tsarevski are filling the void in my heart since nguyen/kolesnik split
tsarevski in particular, man oh man is he so theatrical. hoping for a long time for this pair, definitely helps that tsarevski is a us citizen
same @essei

I see great potential, fingers crossed!!

Some major announcements regarding new partnerships.

It's been pretty known that DelCamp/Somerville split some point over the off-season, especially after it was announced that she's switching feds to the UK and has a new partner. Now, Somerville has a new partner as well, who appears to be Emily Bratti, as they were listed in the entries for the US Championship Series - Blaine, alongside Hsu/Kolesnik and Nguyen/Smirnov.

It looks as though this competition will be streamed, which is quite exciting to see how these three new teams do.

Exactly, for them to reach H/B's world's score at their first comp of the season is a very good sign for them. I wish H/B and G/P could both go to the Olympics but I'm afraid it's going to be one or the other, unless something truly unprecedented happens.

I say H/B should have been AT LEAST 2nd at US Nationals.

I’m so confused. The US Classic in Norwood? They did not skate there?

I'm completely out of explanations as to why judges have fallen out of love with them.

Setting the technical elements aside (because I really can't differentiate between L3 and L4 dance elements), I thought they had the best programs... certainly best free dance... of any US team last season.

This will be awesome to see. And they all will be in Seniors, making it more competitive and interesting. It's nice to see that these skaters, who had great potential with their former partners, not have found partners. When will this event happen, and is it in person this time?
