2021 Worlds: Ladies' Short Program

My all-time favourite skater had a terrible Lip. I supported him beyond reason, but never in a million years would I deny that he was jumping the Flip from the wrong edge. It was there for everyone to see. I don't get it, but whatever, it is really none of my business.

I am obsessed with Shoma. But, he has a terrible quad flip what never deserves high GOE and rather messy feet. Love Alena, but I don't think she is particularly musical. Love Rika but she did deserve the q on her 3A. It really is better when we can be a little more balanced in our viewpoint, isn't it? But, not everyone feels this way, I guess.

I knew it. 😭 You could see she had tape on the back of her leg down near her ankle. When she fell and got up holding it and couldn't put any weight on it I figured she'd pulled or torn a tendon. Achilles is a pretty major one though. That might be a career ender 😢
It is such a shame. I enjoyed Mae's carnivale? Program in the bright yellow dress

Oh please. Compared to the expectations she and her team encouraged, she is the most overhyped ladies skater ever. Ppl were proclaiming her as a lock for every gold medal out there and unbearable, and she has not delivered so far.

I sideeyed everyone for spazzing over her practiced and running to declare her a winner this week.

Actually, I think all she said was that she wanted to skate clean and it didn't matter if she won or not. That isn't a crazy expectation. Some people may have had crazy expectations but that isn't Sasha's fault.

And transitions because her edges are better. Better performed transitions should get higher scores. I think Rika's program is constructed better and preferred her performance but that is personal taste. You like what you like, and I like what I like. That is subjective. However, you are being really being hypocritical on this forum. Calling out the advantages the US skates received but absolutely refusing to acknowledge the equally bad calls that went in favor of the Russians and the strange PCS advantage that received. Condemn all of it, or none.
Not really, I think Shcherbakova was underscored in PCS and has been for her entire career, so obviously I wouldn't call out such a thing. I think Kostornaya was wildly overscored last season and did say as much.

I think both Trusova and Tuktamysheva are overscored in PCS but don't care nearly enough about it. Something like not calling a blatant UR that's nearly a downgrade is a far bigger issue to me.

Oh, and Kihira's edges aren't better. Not even close, in fact. Shcherbakova's edges are better.

Kihira just doesn't have the flow that Shcherbakova does, and is so much slower.

She is definitely not the most overhyped female skater ever. She had good skates, high scores and some medals at junior and senior level.

But especially regarding her JGPF titles I think most expected her to be the best of the trio Sherbakova, Kostornaia, Trusova and to this day she hasn't won at senior level when the both others where also in the competition.

This was perhaps her best (and maybe only) chance to win a big title so it's quite sad she completly lost it today.

A slightly disappointing final group.

I was shocked that Anna got such a high score but the judges gave her +10.68 on GOE and a clear lead on PCS. She‘ll be hard to beat in the free. I preferred Liza and Rika’s performances.

Well done to Schizas on making the Top 10. I thought there was a chance no Canadian would make the free skate but she really took her opportunity. Also Mikutina skated well. Glad for Taljegard to skate so well at home, although I thought her costume was terrible.

Disappointed for Kurakova, it wasn’t the bubbly engaging performance I was expecting. I hope she makes it to the Olympics via Neblehorn.

She's been happily encouraging those crazy expectations and the narrative that she's the "Khaleesi" and wants to "win everything" since juniors and her seniors debut. Actual performances made her back off that speech lately.

Rooting for Kihira to dominate the FS. Scherbokova is the new Medvedeva during Tutberidze days with that over scoring.

Because she was (is?) a literal kid in a hyper competitive sport. Of course she wants to be the best, of course she wants to be compared to that awesome dragon tamer she saw on TV. It‘s not her fault that this is happening and if you think so, sorry, I don‘t even know what to say.

The US and Korea would need to send a skater to Nebelhorn to compete for an extra spot since they don't have a third skater in the FS, but yes, they would have the potential to have three.

Supposing USA could send a skater to Nebelhorn to solidify a third spot... and not counting chickens before hatched, because this competition has a long way to go... the skater they send could NOT be Karen or Bradie... is that correct?

There's a lot of talk about "powerful Feds" having an influence on the outcome of international competitions. As a lover of the sport who doesn't follow the politics of figure skating, could someone (I'm sure there are many of you!) explain why a powerful Fed is able to sway all judges who are not part of that particular Fed? So are you implying that there's money involved somewhere, and that shady dealings happen backstage? How does a powerful Fed influence the result?
